As beautifully engineered as any car with Mercedes heritage, this E320 Cabriolet is the highly desirable “Sportline” model. Built on the Sport Chassis and leaving the factory with lower ride height, uprated suspension and 15-inch alloys the car combines fantastic looks with great performance.

Power comes from a 217bhp straight six 3.2 litre engine and is delivered to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. Offering an entertaining and enjoyable drive the car is elegant, well made and comfortable.

I love everything about this car – its looks, power, handling and comfort make it a fantastic package.

After having owned the car for 15 years Alan has decided it’s time for a new owner to enjoy this increasingly collectable classic. Remarkably this E320 has only covered 5,600 miles in the last 15 years and less than 150 miles since 2017.

Exterior

The graceful, beautifully engineered lines suggest a refined yet exciting sports car.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are the original 15-inch alloys which are in very good condition. There is some minor scuffing to the outer edges which we believe could be easily remedied by a suitable specialist.

The wheels are shod with Dunlop Sport 205/60 – R15 tyres on the front with Pirelli P6000s on the rear which have appeared to have good levels of tread remaining. There is also a brand new spare in the boot.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this car looks excellent. There are no obvious signs of accident damage and the panel gaps appear good right across the car.

The doors, boot and bonnet open and close precisely and cleanly - exactly what you would expect from a car of this quality.

Paint

The Almadine Red metallic paint sets the car off magnificently. The colour is even without major blemishes and has been polished to a deep lustre. There are some very minor age related marks, as one would expect, but overall, for a 26 year old car, the finish is excellent.

Glass and Trim

The glass and mirrors appear clear and unmarked with no issues to note. The chromework and badging are very good and absolutely gleam, contrasting perfectly with the red metallic paintwork.

Interior

Functional, spacious and elegant - this interior is a great place to be.

Seats and Carpets

The beige leather seats are firm, comfortable and provide good support while the front seats are electrically adjustable and heated. All the seats are generally in great condition with no visible rips or tears. The driver’s seat is showing some signs of wear which is entirely consistent with the age of the car.

The cream carpet and white interior contrast beautifully with the red paintwork and the carpets are remarkably clean with no rips or tears. Door cards are very good too with just some minor peeling to the lacquer on the wood inlays.

Dashboard

The instrument binnacle is in excellent condition and the glass is clear with no scratches or significant marks. The remainder of the dash and the centre console are in excellent condition with the wooden inlays adding a touch of opulence to the overall feel of the interior.

Alan confirms that all the gauges and switches work as they should.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The wooden inlay on the steering wheel was a trim enhancement specific to the e320 Sportline range. In this car both the steering wheel and drive selector are in excellent condition making it a true joy to occupy the “office”.

Mechanics

Torquey 3.2 litre engine whisks you to 60MPH in under 8 seconds and can achieve a top speed of around 140MPH - not bad by today's standards too.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.2 litre straight six engine starts well from cold and settles down quickly to a steady idle. The "On The Road" video shows the car pulls well and the automatic gearbox is smooth and progressive.

There is documentary evidence that the automatic gearbox was reconditioned in 2005.

Suspension and Brakes

The car drives well, and the suspension and brakes seem in good order. Alan assures us that all is working as it should be and the maintenance history suggests the car has been well looked after.

The Drive

Alan tells us the car drives exceptionally well which is consistent with the level of care and attention it has enjoyed over his 15 years of ownership. Please see the mechanical review to witness the cold start and the short drive we joined Alan for.

The car has plenty of torque and there is clearly no shortage of power from the 3.2 litre engine.

Electrics and Other

Alan confirmed all electrics work as they should and switches and wiring all appear in very good condition.

Alan has kept a comprehensive history file with MOT certificates going back to 1999 and numerous receipts for works and service.

No leaks at all when first photos were taken roof was down it started to rain and I quickly put roof up then the photographer carried on with more photos and the video cheers Alan

Canvas roof In good condition no tears rear glass window perfect and heated roof mechanism is working up and down with no problems
