Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
There's no denying that the R129 has earned its place in the modern classic hall of fame, thanks to the 90s styling and technological advancements.
Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 1989, the Mercedes-Benz R129 platform was a direct replacement for the R107 from the previous decade and brought with it a number of changes, including a hidden roll-over bar and adaptive damping system, making it one of the safest vehicles of its time. From the model year 1998 onwards, the SL320 received a revised facelift that included new wheel designs, body coloured bumpers and door handles, and a soft Nappa leather interior. Additionally, the 3.2L V6 engine was introduced in place of the straight-six from previous model years. These changes transformed the vehicle, giving it a more modern exterior, luxurious interior, and the new V6 engine.
This particular car comes to market from ~1 year ownership, mostly enjoyed on sunny weekends. This example is a 1 former keeper car, and has an impressive list of factory-selected specifications. It presents beautifully having been detailed for sale, something someone could enjoy this year and beyond.
This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Matthew the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Is there a video of the electric roof working. Thanks
Morning
If you look at the ‘On the road ‘ video about 6 minutes in, you will see the roof going down.
It operates without fault.
Although the photographer has not captured the roof going back up, I can assure you that it also works perfectly with no faults.
Thanks Mat
Apologies but one more question. I see a gap in the service history where there are only MOT’s showing. Is there any service history across this period?
Hi.
The original owner who purchased the car new was a fanatical classic car collector with a very impressive garage and workshop.
He carried out all minor servicing himself and I have his handwritten service record detailing all his work and parts fitted from 2015 to date.
I’m happy to send a photo but not sure how to do it!
There are 12 separate entries over that period including oil and filter changes, brake pads/disks, new CAT, o2 sensor.
I hope this is helpful
Thanks Mat
Hi Matthew,
Very small detailing questions … For the driver’s door lower speaker, is there a mesh or cover missing? The netting in the passenger footwell, is this detached/broken? Do all the electrics work on the car as were prone to loom issues on earlier models?
Much appreciated
Hello and thanks for your interest.
I’m with my car now and taking a careful look- the netting in the passenger footwell was detached in one corner , nothing broken , I have clipped it back in place.
I am pretty certain there is nothing missing from either door speaker cover.
Happy to send more photos if it helps.
Al electrics work perfectly – happy to make a video
Thanks Mat
Hi,
Does the car have power folding mirrors?00580
Has there been any issued0 with the battery, central locking, heater blower/control unit or folding roof?
Is stand for the roof included and does come apart to transport?
Regards
Rob…
Hi Rob
Thanks for the interest.
My 129 does not have power folding mirrors.
If it’s any consolation it does have heated seats and they work very well!
Genuinely no issues with battery (3 months old) central locking, blower or folding roof.
The stand is included and does fold although I’m not convinced it will fit in the boot.
The car is genuinely excellent condition.
It has had a straight MOT pass with no advisories every single year of its life which shows how well it has been cherished.
Thanks Mat
