Introduced in 1997 the stylish, sophisticated, and elegant CLK series enjoyed a 13-year production run. Endowed with legendary Mercedes engineering heritage, the CLK offered ground-breaking technology, impeccable road manners and superb cabin ergonomics.

Already a willing performer in straight four and V6 form, the game changed in 1999 when a 4.3 Litre V8 became available. With 275 bhp on tap these cars offered effortless acceleration, 0-60 in around 6 seconds and a limited top of 155mph. Benefitting from Mercedes Multimode 5 speed automatic gearbox and Electronic Stability Control as standard, the CLK proved to be an immensely popular luxury car.

Understated elegance with a capable, sporty edge – all beautifully presented in brilliant metallic silver

Wheels and Tyres

The 17-inch “Mono-bloc” wheels appear sound with some age-related kerb marks on the rims that can be seen in the images. The centre badges present well, and the wheels are fitted with 225/45/R17 tyres all round which appear to have good tread remaining.

Bodywork

The bodywork presents beautifully – the car stands straight, shut lines look good and the doors, bonnet, boot all open and close with precision. Exactly what you would expect from a Mercedes.

This low mileage car has clearly been well looked after.

Paint

Stunning, brilliant Metallic Silver finish is even and consistent right across the car with the paint still retaining a deep shine. There are small scuffs on the nearside front and the offside rear valances, but these really are minor and overall, the car presents superbly.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the paint for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

Windscreen, side and rear windows, mirrors and lenses all look great. We could see no signs of damage or significant scratching. The chrome trim looks great with little evidence of pitting.

The bonnet badge appears a little tarnished, but this is entirely as expected for a 22-year-old car.

Interior

Stylish grey leather with chrome and walnut trim – this is a beautifully appointed, luxurious cabin that belies the cars 22 years.

Seats and Carpets

Grey perforated leather seats look in superb condition with barely any wear that we could see – even the driver’s seat bolster looks great. Carpets are in sound condition with only minor wear in a couple of places and the headlining looks excellent. The driver’s door trim, while sound, could benefit from a treatment and clean.

Dashboard

The dashboard looks in very good shape. We could see no splits to the leather, the walnut trim looks superb with no evidence of crazing or peeling, and the instruments all appear clear and unbroken.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Grey leather covered steering wheel and badged centre boss look good as does the auto selector and walnut trimmed centre console. All, of course, beautifully styled in true Mercedes tradition.

Mechanics

Quiet and serene yet raw and potent - the glorious V8 delivers 275 bhp to the rear wheels through a super slick, 5 speed, multimode gearbox.

Engine and Gearbox

SOHC V8, 5 speed multi-mode auto box and Electronic Stability Control offered the very best configuration for the CLK range. This engine has covered fewer than ~25,000 miles and it looks like it too. The engine bay is clean, we could see no sign of leaks, and everything appeared exactly as it should.

On our cold start the car fired up straight away, idled steadily and emissions appeared clear.

Suspension and Brakes

Famous for their handling these cars combine a firm, sporty ride with high levels of comfort. With vented discs on the front and solid on the rear, underpinned by Mercedes engineering, you can be assured the stopping ability more than matches the BHP.

The Drive

As expected, the drive was comfortable, quiet, and smooth. The V8 pulled well and changes through the wonderfully engineered 5 speed automatic transmission were barely perceptible. Steering seemed certain and precise while the car felt firm and planted. This drives just as a low mileage Mercedes should.

Electrics and Other

All dials, switches and gauges appeared in good condition and on the test drive everything we observed seemed to be working properly. The car comes with electronically adjustable seats and headrests, dual zone air conditioning and radio/cassette audio system. We were assured all electrics work properly.
