Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
The SL600 offers supercar performance with comfort, durability and subtle style.
When new the Mercedes Benz SL600 was placed at the very top of the R230 SL line-up, offering an almost unique experience, something of an ultimate long-distance cruiser. Powered by a twin-turbocharged version of the M275 V12, the SL600 comfortably slotted itself into the supercar category, but its presence, power and character were far more subtle than its rivals.
Modern features like Active Body Control and electro-hydraulic Sensotronic brakes made the SL600 seem like a car designed for comfort and convenience rather than handling ability. Yet, its everyday common sense combined with a devastating straight-line performance went hand in with Mercedes' renowned build quality and engineering durability.
This smartly presented 2004 SL600 finished in obsidian black with a full leather interior, has been in the family since 2009 and has only ~50,305 miles on the clock. Owned by a Mercedes Benz collector, it comes with 2 keys, 3 services, a fresh battery and an MOT to November 2025.
This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Jack the owner's son, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hi Leigh,
The car is stored in a garage I own, I don’t rent it I’m afraid.
The mechanics contact details would be appreciated Jack .
Hi Barrie,
Sorry for the delay in replying, I asked trade classics to send you the contact details for the mechanic, hopefully they were able to answer your questions 🙂
Best,
Jack
Thanks Jack ,did the “electrical consumer offline “message initially go off when the new battery was fitted , but then later reappear?
Regards Barrie
Hi Barrie,
No, it’s always been like that. I spoke to the mechanic who fitted the battery for me about it and he said that the electrical consumers message will always come on if the car hasn’t been driven for a period, it’s the same for all SLs. It basically means that the battery is less than 80% and so some of the add on features won’t work initially. But as soon as you’ve driven the car for two minutes, everything will work as intended. For context, I don’t drive it very often, which is why the message typically always come on for me.
If you want more context around how the battery works, I can give you the number of the mechanic who worked on the car, he said he’d be happy to explain.
Hi again Jack
Can you advise me , was the battery that you replaced in September the one in the rear of the car which operates the electronics as opposed to starting the car?
If so- when it was replaced is the replacement a AGM battery or Lead Acid ?
Thank you in advance.
Brandy Boy .
Hi Barrie,
It was the battery in the back that was replaced. I’m not sure what sort of battery it is (there’s a sticker on the top of it obstructing the view of it). I’ll ring the garage tomorrow and check with them.
Best,
Jack
Hi again Barrie,
I just checked with the garage and it’s an AGM battery in the boot.
Since you fitted the new battery has the “electrical consumers offline” message gone away?
Hi,
No, the message still comes through but it’s not a problem. This is normal when left unused for a couple of weeks.
Thank you for your response Jack .
Good evening Jack, when the SL 600 was last mot in November 24 where there any advisories?
If there are are any advisories what are they and have they been rectified?
Thank you in advance.
Barrie .
Hi Barrie!
So, initially when I got it tested, I had advisories for a couple of the tyres. I bought 4 brand new tyres and got them fitted and the MOT passed with no advisories or warnings, a clean bill of health!
Any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Kind regards,
Jack
