Meet the owner

I've always had a soft spot for AMG cars, and when the opportunity came to buy this C55 around 18 months ago, I couldn't pass it up.

Sometimes the hardest cars to sell are the ones owners genuinely don't want to part with.

Phillip speaks very fondly of this C55 AMG, and it's easy to understand why. It's been maintained properly from the moment he bought it, drives exactly as it should, and has never given him any problems. The decision to sell isn't driven by the car itself but by circumstance. A lack of garage space means he's reluctantly decided it's time for a new custodian to enjoy one of AMG's finest modern classic saloons.

Exterior

The C55 AMG perfectly captures an era when Mercedes combined understated styling with serious performance. Finished in classic Brilliant Silver, this example presents as a clean, well-kept sports saloon, with subtle AMG enhancements giving it a purposeful stance without sacrificing its timeless elegance.

Wheels and Tyres

The factory AMG alloy wheels remain in excellent condition and perfectly suit the subtly muscular styling of the C55.

A matching set of Michelin tyres is fitted all round, giving confidence that the car has been maintained with quality components rather than budget replacements.

Paint

The Brilliant Silver finish retains an excellent shine and depth, with only age-related marks expected of a well-maintained twenty-year-old performance car.

Overall, it presents as an honest, smart example that has clearly been cherished.

On the passenger front wing there are two small stone chips, which have been pictured in detail.

Glass and Trim

Inside, the C55 AMG offers the perfect balance of luxury and performance. The cabin remains a comfortable and refined place to spend time, with supportive AMG leather seats, quality materials throughout, and all the features expected of a flagship Mercedes from the era.

Seats and Carpets

Inside, the cabin is exactly what you'd expect from an AMG of this era: solidly built, comfortable, and designed for covering long distances at speed.

The black AMG leather seats are electrically-adjustable with memory function. They remain in excellent condition, showing only light wear consistent with careful ownership. Both front seats remain supportive and retain their original shape.

The rear seats fold, and come with ISOFIX connectors.

Dashboard

The dashboard is clean and uncluttered, with everything operating exactly as Mercedes intended.

Switchgear, instrumentation, and controls all feel reassuringly solid, reflecting the quality for which these cars became known.

Whilst the speedometer is printed in Kph, the central digital display can show MPH, and all the map systems can provide MPH information and warnings.

The car is fitted with an aftermarket "Dynavin 8" modern infotainment system, which was professionally fitted to replace the Mercedes system - whilst retaining its OEM appearance. It provides modern functionality including DAB, USB access in the glove box, GPS navigation through its own system or through Wired Android Auto / Apple Car Play - allowing use of Waze and Google maps, as well as Spotify or Amazon Music, from your phone. The steering wheel controls operate the system, including the phone functionality.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The AMG multifunction steering wheel remains in excellent condition and perfectly suits the character of the C55, offering a comfortable grip while placing the key controls within easy reach.

Beside it, the automatic gear selector operates smoothly, complementing the effortless nature of the 5.4-litre V8. Together, they create a driving position that feels every bit as refined as it does performance-focused, making the C55 equally enjoyable on long motorway journeys or spirited drives on your favourite B-roads.

Shortly after purchasing the car, Phillip commissioned a comprehensive service which included replacing all fluids, providing a solid maintenance baseline for his ownership. The automatic transmission complements the V8 perfectly, delivering smooth, responsive gear changes whether cruising or making the most of the engine's performance.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension strikes an excellent balance between comfort and control, giving the C55 the composed road manners expected of an AMG sports saloon. Shortly after purchasing the Mercedes around 18 months ago, Phillip commissioned a comprehensive service that included replacing all fluids, ensuring the car started his ownership with a clean maintenance baseline.

Combined with its history as a Japanese import and its excellent overall condition, the accompanying paperwork provides reassuring evidence of a well-cared-for and properly maintained AMG.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

    What is your reserve policy?

    A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

    If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

    Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

    Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

    Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
