Fitted with the iconic hand-built AMG V8, this E-Class is a proper super saloon, a wolf in sheep's clothing.

First released in 1953, the E-class gained its name from a very new feature at the time - fuel injection. Mercedes used the letter, E which stood for Einspritzung, the German for fuel injection. The executive saloon is currently on its fifth generation E-class, but things got quite interesting at the third generation when AMG breathed their magic onto this particular model, the E63 AMG.

Based on the W211, the E63 has been described by many as the best machine produced by the AMG team, creating a sleek aerodynamic luxury cruiser capable of holding its own on the Autobahn thanks to the 507BHP 6.3 litre V8. This, coupled with excellent handling, which has also been tweaked by AMG with the electronically adjustable suspension, means that the E63 AMG delivers as and when you need it.

This example been has enjoyed over the past ~1.5 years ownership. It has been well cared for and not used excessively over the past few years as can be seen from the condition. Finished in a favourite Mercedes-Benz colour of "Obsidian Black", and with Nappa brown leather and options like heated electric seats, sunroof etc, that make it a very enticing package.

Meet the owner

With a love for anything German, when the opportunity arose to acquire the E63 from a family member, I simply had to have it!

Usman has been the custodian of this lovely 2006 Mercedes E63 AMG for approximately 18 months. He purchased the car from his cousin, who had owned the E63 for around the same amount of time. Usman has not covered a great deal of miles in the car, only really using it at weekends and special occasions, which can be seen by the MOT mileage history. But one thing is for certain… each mile covered has been done with a smile on his face, "This car is immense!" he tells us.

With the itch to own a Mercedes AMG scratched, and not just any AMG, a proper super saloon, Usman has now decided to sell the car and let another AMG petrolhead enjoy the quality, luxury and power. He will be more than happy to answer any questions you have in the comments below.

Exterior

Subtle differences separate the E63 AMG from your normal run of the mill E-class, keeping it under the radar as a bit of a sleeper.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels on the AMG Mercedes-Benz are the factory 18” AMG wheels. These are generally in good condition with just a couple of small kerb marks. The main thing to point out is some water ingress which has got under the lacquer of the diamond cut faces. This could potentially be rectified by your local wheel refurbishment specialist.

The tyres are two different makes front and rear, but do have a good amount of tread remaining. Please take a look at the gallery for detailed images.

Bodywork

The panel work around the E63 looks to be in excellent order, with all the panel gaps looking to align as they should. The car is also very straight, looking down the long flanks of the car, and we haven't noticed any car park injuries.

Paint

Finished in "Obsidian Black", the car looks stunning and it's clear to see the car has been well cared for. Any swirl marks are very faint, which, as we all know, on black can stand out like a sore thumb.

Stone chips we would say are minimal for the age and mileage. There are obviously a few to the front and leading edges of the wings, but less than you would expect.

The images taken are from various angles and reflections showing off the wonderful shape of the Mercedes E63 at its best, as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition of the exterior.

Glass and Trim

The glass on the car all looks to be in excellent condition. The side windows have got a darker tint applied, with the rears being slightly darker.

Being the AMG, the car has subtle differences like the front splitter and spoiler on the boot. The headlights, fog lights and rear lights are all in good order with no cracks to the lenses. Please see the photos and videos for a more detailed look at the exterior.

Interior

Nappa brown leather smothers the interior of this AMG Mercedes, plenty of luxury and comfort.

Seats and Carpets

Fully electric heated leather AMG seats with a perforated centre section and alcantara panels to the shoulder area, create the front seating in the E63. Usman tells us that the seats are working as they should, and show just a small amount of creasing to the driver’s side bolster, as often seen. The rear seat looks to be in excellent order, as are the door cards.

The carpets appear in good order throughout with no excessive wear to them, and fitted is a set of Mercedes mats to protect them which are in good condition. Inside the boot is also nice and clean, and lifting up the floor reveals the spare wheel, tool kit, jack and wheel brace.

Dashboard

The dashboard is well presented with the darker top and lighter lower section. This car has been optioned with "Bird's Eye Maple" wood trim, an excellent match for the brown Nappa leather.

The instruments are clear and easy to read with no warning lights displayed, apart from a notification about the tyre sensor on one wheel which Usman can’t reset. The odometer is showing a reading of ~70,390 miles.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel matches the top section of the dashboard and is in good order with no excessive wear, and any wear we would say is in keeping with the mileage. Steering wheel controls for volume and a phone are to the front, and flappy paddle shifters to the rear, which are marked up and down.

The gear knob is in good order with no obvious wear to the knob or gear gaiter. Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images of the interior.

Mechanics

This is where the AMG comes into its own, the huge hand-built AMG powerhouse, the E63 delivers an immense amount of power and a beautiful soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

Technically a 6.2 but marketed as a 6.3, some say it’s “to comply with German law, Mercedes-Benz is required to round up the displacement figure”, and others say “to commemorate Mercedes' famed 6.3 L M100 engine”, but let's face it, after 6.2 litres, who's counting!

The 6,208cc (6.3) fires up just as it should, with all of its 507BHP ready and waiting for you to press the loud pedal and propel you from 0-60mph in a blistering ~4.2 seconds. The car sounds fantastic through the four tailpipes. It can cruise along gently with a smooth silenced tone, or driven spirited, it becomes a V8 orchestra.

A 7-speed automatic gearbox is fitted to the E63 AMG, which also has F1 style paddles on the back of the steering wheel should you wish to use them. The change is effortless and smooth as the car makes its way through the gears, which can be seen in our "On The Road" video.

Suspension and Brakes

With adjustable Airmatic suspension, the E63 can be set for sport or comfort, giving a slightly lower stance in sport. Either setting doesn't disappoint, the car handles well on the road with no noises coming from either corner of the vehicle.

The drilled brake discs are working as they should, bringing the car to a halt in a straight line, with no juddering reported to come through the pedal.

The Drive

Like an E-class, but offering a lot more! Being an AMG, the car sits lower to the ground thanks to the lower bodywork giving it a more aggressive look, which it really does deserve. When you hear it in action, the E63 AMG doesn't fail to disappoint. Handling, performance, luxury, it has something for everyone.

Electrics and Other

Inside the Mercedes is well equipped, with satellite navigation, air conditioning, cruise control, plus all the other goodies you would come to expect from Mercedes-Benz.

Everything is reported to be working as it should, with the only fault being the tyre pressure sensor message as already mentioned. There is a tracker fitted, which is thought to still be working, it would just need the relevant subscription via Tracker.

History and Paperwork

A great example finished in the popular colour of Obsidian black, just ~70,000 miles recorded from 7 owners.

The Mercedes-Benz comes with the relevant driver’s handbook, plus the instructions for the navigation system. There are a number of invoices and receipts which have been saved for work carried out. Usman was also keen to point out that, although it's not the cheapest, he has religiously run the car on Shell V-Power petrol.

There is a current MOT, passed with no advisories, which is valid until the 30th November 2022.
