The 2008 facelift breathed new life into the R230’s handsome silhouette, bringing upgraded powerplants and a more refined feature set. At the heart of this evolution was the SL63 AMG. A technological leap forward featuring a ~518 hp, 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 that catapulted the car into the realm of supercars. Owned by Jeff’s wife, Judith, this SL63 is the latest in her long-standing succession of SL models. Having been used regularly yet driven with care, the car has benefited from a diligent maintenance schedule consisting of nearly annual servicing.

While Judith appreciates its refined ride quality and intuitive cabin, the arrival of a new vehicle means this Mercedes is now being offered for sale due to a lack of recent use.

Exterior

Strikingly finished in a rare hue, this SL63 boasts exceptional curb appeal.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 19” machined Silver 5-spoke triple band alloys, the front has mild kerb wear on the rims, ideal candidates for a refurb - the rear wheels are in good shape.

The front of the car is fitted with a 2023 Bridgestone tyre and a 2021 Goodyear tyre, both displaying a 255/35 size. The rear tyres are 285/30 Pirelli P-Zeros. The rear tyres are dated from 2017 and 2023. The tyres would benefit from changing soon as the most recent MOT has flagged up an advisory on the offside rear and nearside front together with some cracking to the outer treads and record of a nail in the nearside rear tyre. The low reserve has accounted for this.

Bodywork

The exterior presents positively and is free of damage. The panels are flush to the body with visually even shut lines. All doors open and close with ease, with the passenger glass drop functioning as it should.

The underside is solid with no issues noted on the floor pan, jacking points, engine bay or wheel wells.

Paint

The metallic 'Lazurite Blue' is a special-order paint factory finish. It has a good lustre with an even hue and consistency. The nose of the SL has a few minor road-wear chips, but otherwise, it presents positively for its age.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seals are all in good shape; there is a little lamination wear on the corners of the rear screen.

The lights and lenses are smart, with no issues with the body trim.

The bumpers are well-mounted, with the only damage spotted on the offside rear corner.

Interior

Well cared for, the leather interior remains vibrant and impeccably finished.

Seats and Carpets

The comfort vented 'Sand' Nappa leather seats are in good shape, with mild creases.

The carpets and mats are decent, with minor discolouration in the footwells.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in excellent condition, with no issues with the controls or dials. The light burr wood trim is all in good shape.

There are light surface marks on the console screen and minor signs of age on the hazard switch/door lock buttons. Jeff has told us that all of the dashboard functions are working as they should.

The door cards are good, with some mild discolouration on the storage bin lids, and some minor distortion on the driver's side.

The roof lining and the interior trim are in good shape.

Minor indentations noted on the back of the passenger seat casing.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Minor wear on the gear lever, but the steering wheel and its multi-function buttons present well.

Mechanics

Meticulously maintained, the punchy V8 and MCT gearbox perform flawlessly.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start process was straightforward, with the engine firing up with no unwanted ignition lights, engine noises or exhaust fumes. The engine idles smoothly, and we didn’t see any fluid leaks during our visit.

The engine has seen regular maintenance since new and is backed up with regular servicing.

Jeff has demonstrated that the Multi-Clutch gearbox in automatic operates without any issues, with no reported negative feedback or mechanical issues.

Suspension and Brakes

The car rides evenly during the road test with no knocks or unwanted vibrations from the wheels.

We didn’t test the different ride modes on our trip, but jeff confirmed everything is working as it should.

The car brakes evenly, with no pulling, squealing, or unwanted noises.

We just heard mild suspension squeaking noises at lower speeds.

The Drive

The R230 generation of the SL represents a significantly more sporting evolution than its predecessor, characterised by instant throttle response and a visceral exhaust note from its 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8. Delivering a formidable ~518 hp, the car's performance is further refined by the Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, which virtually eliminates body roll and ensures precision through the corners for a genuine sports-car feel.

Jeff provided a demonstration drive through an urban environment; while the traffic-heavy route didn't fully exploit the SL63’s performance, it effectively showcased the car's refinement. The steering, engine response, braking, and suspension all performed flawlessly, absorbing road imperfections with total composure.

The engine pulls well, free of any unwanted noises. The V8 engine powers along the road with no negative feedback or hesitancy. The gearbox was left in automatic mode and picked up without any delay, free of slackness or slippage. The car corners without any issue, and the cabin is well insulated with no rattles or mechanical noises.

Jeff has had any issues addressed by Mercedes main dealer and a Mercedes specialist, and therefore has not reported any problems with the car's oil pressure or engine temperature.

Electrics and Other

It was highly specified from new, fitted with an optional Harman Kardon sound system, TV, remote boot opener and Parktronic.

The opening Panoramic roof functions without fault or delay.

History and Paperwork

Its single owner provenance and an exhaustive service history offer total peace of mind.

This one-family-owned vehicle comes with its original sales invoice, full owner’s manual, and 13 service records. It is supplied with five keys (including two spares) and boasts a recent February 2026 service and an MOT valid until November 2026.

First registered by Mercedes-Benz Poole in March 2009, this SL63 boasts an impressive maintenance record, with annual servicing performed by Mercedes-Benz main dealers and marque specialists. Significant recent investments include a new gear selector, a replacement shock absorber, and two new batteries, while the ABC pump damper was replaced in 2020. Hi Jeff, I’ve sent a viewing request but haven’t heard back so just checking in here as I’m very interested in the car.

Just a couple of key points I wanted to clarify before bidding:
• Could you confirm the condition of the rear offside bumper mentioned earlier?
• Have the M156 head bolts ever been updated or inspected?
• Has the ABC suspension had any recent work or fluid changes, and are there any current warnings or issues?

Hi slight imperfection on rear bumper not aware of the M156 head bolts being updated or inspected and not sure what they are ? Suspension never been worked on or fluid changed to the nest of my knowledge . No current warnings or issues . Happy to show it on a mutually acceptable location but don’t want home visitors as we are very private people .
