Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
Retaining all the familiar style and appeal of the MGB, but enhanced by the effortless performance of a smooth straight-six.
When the MG MGC was launched in 1967, it was widely seen as the next logical step on from the much-loved MGB. Powered by the twin SU-carburettor C-Series 2912cc straight-six producing around 145bhp, it was intended as a credible successor to the Austin-Healey 3000. Visually, the MGC closely resembles the MGB, save for the distinctive power bulge in the aluminium bonnet and its larger wheels. Beneath the surface, however, the car benefitted from a stronger structure, uprated brakes and revised running gear to manage the increased performance.
The engine itself is a proven and capable unit, offering strong performance while remaining reasonably economical for a car of its era. The MGC sat at the top of MG’s range until production ended in 1969. With only around 9,000 examples built — approximately half of which were exported to the United States — it remains one of the rarer MG variants on UK roads today. Over time, the MGC has earned a loyal following, appreciated for its smooth power delivery, long-distance cruising ability and relaxed driving manners, as well as its period motorsport pedigree.
This attractive 1968 MG MGC Roadster is finished in classic 'British Racing Green' with a black leather interior. It has been in the same ownership since 2017 and is accompanied by a collection of invoices and records detailing previous maintenance and parts fitted - it also has a very keen reserve set.

Thanks for your question. I have had it checked about a year ago and they said the compressions in the cylinders were all ok. I then assumed it was just not being used enough. I have not had the timing and carbs checked which I believe can also cause a misfire. With clean plugs it seems fine. Thanks again.
Auction Update – The seller NormanD has removed the reserve on this auction, and so the car in effectively on sale with “No Reserve”, and will sell to the highest bidder. Good luck if you’re involved in the bidding. Best, Kulraj – Trade Classics
Norman. When the car started from cold it was misfiring. On your road test II wasn’t sure if it was missing. You went in to say you have to clean the plugs to resolve this. Is the misfire any more serious than wet plug causing misfire. Thank you
The ad also says 3 previous keepers, but the V5C says “since 2012”
Thanks for the comment. Apologies for my slow response. The reason is that the car was registered prior to this in the Republic of Ireland. The photo of the registration should be in the file. I have the registration book showing is registered there from 1974 with one owner a Michael Keating. Through to 2007. Prior to 1974 it had been delivered to Leslie Porter Ltd. Belfast on 19th March 1968. No records exist until October 1974 when it was sold to Michael Keating in the Republic of Ireland who had it till selling on to the UK mainland in 2012. I hope this is of some help. I will keep looking for any further information.
From the invoices they refer to a damaged bonnet front wing and repaired boot – do you have photos of the damage as there is nothing referred about this in the write up.
Thank you for the question and apologies for my delay in response. The damage to the bonnet and front wing was during lockdown when a badger got trapped in my garage and upset a large tin of paint in the rafters which landed on the bonnet and scraped the front wing. Fortunately the tin remained sealed and the badger did escape. The boot had a small dent in it when I originally bought the car and requested it to be remedied before buying. I am not sure if I can attach pictures. I have none of the boot but may be able to find one of the bonnet.
