Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Great to look at and incredible to drive - this is the archetypal British roadster, ready to be enjoyed this summer.

First produced by MG from 1962 up until 1980, the soft-top sports car formula of the MGB stayed relatively simple throughout. A B-series engine now produced ~95BHP at 5,400RPM a big step up from its predecessor. Its good looks, honest charm and simple mechanics made it hugely successful - it shortly became Britain's best-selling sports car.

This stunning "Bronze Yellow" roadster is coming out of 8 years of ownership , whereby he's enjoyed motoring around the countryside on hot days and tinkering with it during the weekends. The car received a restoration and rebuild in 2012, and has been carefully stored and maintained since, one of the best MGB's we've auctioned.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Steve the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Owning and driving an MGB Roadster has been on my bucket list for years.

Steve purchased an MGB back in his youth during the 1970s, it had been his dream car back then but he couldn't afford to keep it then. Fast forward 40 years and Steve purchased another, to enjoy on sunny days and tinker with during the weekends.

Steve reports that the former owner Malcolm purchased this car in 2009 and started the project of rebuilding in 2012. Malcolm had all the panels and underneath resprayed by MG Cambridge in its original colour of "Bronze Yellow" as well as having the under arches protected. New chrome work was carried out for the bumpers and trim along with new wire wheels fitted, and a mohair roof.

The engine is original and was completely rebuilt during the restoration along with the carbs, timing tappets, electric ignition, radiator, oil cooler, and wire metal-coated cables. Inside was checked for any corrosion and then painted with Hammerite, with new soundproofing mats, carpets, and rubber mats installed. The seats are original with new black leather covers fitted. Steve will be happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

Pininfarina-styled bodywork finished with the desirable chrome trim and wire wheels - classic good looks.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the period-correct chrome wire wheels, including a full-sized spare, they look great and are free from any curb marks. The Uniroyal Rallye 380 tyres on the car look good all-around and are dated 2009, with plenty of tread still left on them.

Please take a look at the exterior photos for an extensive view of the wheels.

Bodywork

The bodywork looks great on this MGB. As you would expect for such an extensive rebuild, the shut lines all look great, especially for a 1970s MG.

The underside of the car looks good and appears to have been undersealed during the restoration, which can be seen in the mechanical photos. We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Steve reports the previous owner had the MGB resprayed in 2012, it looks great in its original bright and eye-catching "Bronze Yellow" colour which combines beautifully with the black leather interior.

The paint looks even in colour and coat across all the panels, the images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the mileage. We didn't notice any discolouration, cracks or chips during our visit. The window seals look good too and are in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

During the restoration, Steve mentions the car had a new Mohair roof, which presented in great condition on our visit.

Interior

Just look at this elegant and classy MGB wooden dash - a masterpiece.

Seats and Carpets

The black sporty seats on the MGB look great. Steve mentions the seats are original with new leather covers to give them a new lease of life.

The black carpets also look good for their age, overall a lovely example. Please view the images and videos for a look at the interior.

Dashboard

A luxurious touch within an MGB, walnut burl trim on the dashboard, with chrome bezels and sharp dials, all looking great on the roadster.

All the units are clean, clear and sharp, please take a look at the images for a closer look.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

We love to see a classic steering wheel with MG badging and gear stick too. The Italian-inspired steering wheel, surrounded by a wooden outer ring presents in great condition for its age. The gearstick tells a very similar story.

Mechanics

If you're looking for an authentic classic motoring experience, this MGB which has been fully restored is the car for you.

Engine and Gearbox

Steve reports the engine is original and was completely rebuilt during the restoration along with the carbs, timing tappets, electric ignition, and soundproofing fitted. A new radiator, oil cooler, and wire metal-coated cables were also installed.

We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows the car out on the road and a view around the engine bay. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the very clean engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension in the MGB Roadster was much softer than the previous MGA offering a much smoother ride. It looks like the running gear has been well maintained, and rebuild along with the restoration, with no issues noticed on our visit. Please take a look through the extensive pictures underneath to see the components in detail.

The Drive

The MGB offers the driver the perfect blend of speed, handling, and power. Steve mentions the car always draws positive attention whenever he ventures out in it, especially in it's bright and cheery paintwork.

Electrics and Other

Steve reports that to his knowledge all of the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

History and Paperwork

Fully restored from the ground up, and coming out of 8 years of ownership, this Bronze Yellow MGB roadster is a ray of sunshine.

Resprayed in its original classic colour of "Bronze Yellow" and restored to a very high standard, this is the practical classic you need for summer journeys.

This lovely low mileage MGB has survived from corrosion and been restored to a high standard. The car is coming to auction with ~46,500 miles on the clock. This MG B really has been taken care of mechanically since it's been on the road - take a look below to see all the previous work carried out.
