Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

The iconic classic that needs no introduction - finished in the ever popular red over white colourway, this classic Cooper is the ideal run-around.

The Mini is a car that was built for the people, a car that is extremely versatile and practical for day-to-day motoring while being able to deliver in racing with its go-cart-like handling. From launch, the Mini was a huge success, 5.4 million Minis were bought over the 41 years of production, and it still remains the best-selling British car of all time.

This Rover example was produced in 1991 making it an early Mark VI, the car was given mechanical tweaks over its predecessor and powered by the perky 1.3L inline-four.

This car was inherited from the vendors late Brother two years ago, and hasn't seen much use since then, but has been dry stored in a garage. With the car not being used, the owner is looking for an enthusiast to use and enjoy on the road like her brother used to.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Katrina the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A Mini enthusiast-owned car with a tasteful selection of modifications.

Katrina inherited the car from her late brother. He loved this car, working on it in his spare time and a regular at shows. The car has not seen much use since Katrina inherited it, she has just kept the car in the garage.

A custom twin-tip exhaust is fitted along with the larger 13" Minilite sport wheels and John Cooper bonnet decals with quad lights. In preparation for sale, a fresh MOT has been carried out. Katrina will be more than happy to answer your questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Instantly recognisable, this Mini Cooper has been given some modifications to match styling from the later models.

Wheels and Tyres

This Cooper is fitted with sports style 13” Minilite alloy wheels with locking wheel nuts. These wheels present in good condition on each corner, they are a little kerbed on the outer edges and all have MWS Racing center caps.

The wheels wear Carat Fulda tyres dated 2004, all tyres appear in good condition with lots of tread left for the new owner.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Mini Cooper looks in good condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to align well. However, the bonnet catch and driver's door inside release requires some attention. The car comes with a sun roof, which opens with ease, and appears tight.

You'll notice from the photo gallery and video review that the seams have been filled in across the front of the car, to give it a smooth look.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

We believe the car is finished in a 'Flame Red' with iconic John Cooper bonnet strips and pinstripes down both sides added.

On our visit, we did notice wear to the paint in the form of some crazing and swirl marks, and blistering on the wheel arch extensions. The paint appears in line with the age and mileage of the car from afar, but close inspection you would say it need a fair amount of work.

Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks good, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car. This car is fitted with a sunroof, a nice feature which opens and close with ease.

The chrome bumpers, grille, door, boot handles, and window surrounds all look in good condition with small areas of pitting beginning to show.

Interior

With a gloss wood trim, the cabin to this Mini Cooper has a mix of elegance in contrast to the sports seats.

Seats and Carpets

The front of the Mini is equipped with two bucket seats, which hold you comfortably and securely. They would benefit from a little attention, as the plastic seatbelt entrance slots appear a little worn. The rear seats look in great original condition with very little signs of use.

It is fitted with black carpet throughout and wood-styled window winders and door handles are also found inside, a few parts of trim are missing. Please have a look at the interior gallery and video for a detailed tour.

Dashboard

The interior on this Mini Cooper example appears inline with the mileage of the car, free from major wear, a few small cracks are present in the veneer that have come with age.

Katrina reports all the dials, gauges, and buttons are working to her knowledge. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with a chunky wooden Mini steering wheel, allowing the driver easy maneuvering of this city car.

Both the gear stick and steering wheel appear in good condition.

Mechanics

The fiesty 4-pot provides bags of fun, these Mini's really are go karts for the roads!

Engine and Gearbox

Mini's classic 1275cc inline-four engine is fitted, a very reliable and practical choice that packs a considerable punch paired to the light bodies. The car is fitted with a large twin-tip sports exhaust which really adds a lot of character to this example.

After a few turns of the key and choke adjustment and Katrina's Mini started from cold and drove smoothly along the road. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around the street, and for a closer look underneath.

Suspension and Brakes

One of the most defining aspects of the Mini is its rubber-cone suspension system, which requires very little maintenance.

Katrina reports her brother always mechanically looked after the car and mentions the brakes and suspension provide an enjoyable journey with prompt stopping power. As mentioned previously, the car has had a fresh MOT actioned recently.

The Drive

The iconic good looks and the perky nature really set the Mini apart from other city cars. Katrina mentions her brother loved using the car and always took it along to many Mini enthusiast shows. Please watch the 'On the Road' video to see the car start from cold and drive a short drive around the block.

Electrics and Other

Katrina reports that to her knowledge all of the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

History and Paperwork

A desirable MKVI example finished in Flame Red with wide arches and a sports exhaust, this example is a very usable classic or could be considered a good base for a restoration project.

This car is coming out of ~2 years of ownership with Katrina, she inherited the car from her late brother. She has recently carried out a fresh MOT, ready for the new custodian. Take a look at the media to see all the history included within the sale of the car.
