Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Extremely collectable, this is a Knightsbridge edition press car - a great end to one of the most iconic classics out there.

Over five million Minis were produced between 1959 and 2000, however, with lots of choice between many different models and editions, each car has its own place in the history of Mini. This car is an official limited edition "Knightsbridge" model, with trim which consists of cream "Alpaca" leather interior and wood dash, with the exterior finished in a "Pearlescent Sienna Gold" paint, the car also comes fully equipped with Airbags, side impact bars, SRS seat belt restraints and driver seat belt secure detection lamp.

The car is 1 of 8 produced by Rover for publicity use in December 1999, with only 4 currently registered. This example was completely rebuilt between 2007 to 2012 and has been owned by close family and friends for the previous 16 years, and in the current ownership for just over a year. This particular example has been extremely well kept and rebuilt by an avid Mini enthusiast, it comes with a great amount of paperwork since new, with all the receipts from previous MOT, parts, servicing, tax discs, Mini meets, and the original Mini brochure; in which this exact example was featured for the interior photographs. The reserve on the Mini Knightsbridge has been lowered.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Alex the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Previously owned by a close family friend and my brother for the previous 16 years, this Knightsbridge edition has always received the love and attention it deserves.

Alex purchased the car over 2 years ago from a family friend, that the family had sold it to. Pror to that, Alex's brother owned and enjoyed this Mini Knightsbridge for many years. The car has always been owned by enthusiasts, it was first sold on by a Rover dealership - Startin's of Redditch, where the car remained in use around Evesham until 2006, whereby it was purchased and underwent complete restoration from 2007 to 2012. Alex tells us there are 3 other Knightsbridge press cars registered around the UK, the plan and dream is to do a meet-up to capture the cars together.

Alex was hoping to keep the car as an investment for many years to come, however due to personal reasons and now moving to a new house with less garage space, he has had to come to part with his beloved family-owned Mini Knightsbridge. He will give the car a fresh MOT in the next week or so and will be more than happy to answer questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Finished in Sienna Gold which is unique to the Knightsbridge - easily identified and adored by collectors.

Wheels and Tyres

This Knightsbridge special edition is fitted with silver Minilite 13" alloy wheels as standard. The wheels present in great condition on each corner, with no obvious areas of concern.

Fitted with Yokohama tyres on the front and rear dated 2017, all the tyres appear to have a great amount of tread. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Mini looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looks to align very well. During our visit we didn't spot any obvious dings down the flanks of the car, everything looking crisp and sharp while standing very straight and true, we did notice a very slight dent in the boot lid, just above the Knightsbridge badge, not a major concern though. With the car having had an older restoration, it doesn't look to be suffering from any of the usual hotspots for corrosion like under the head lights or the sills etc, a very nice example.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in the iconic Knightsbridge colour of "Sienna Gold", Rover mini code: GUF. The paint is finished to a lovely standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel. We did notice the odd very small and minor stone chip to the front of the car, however, you'll have to get really close to notice these. We noticed a slight small sign of corrosion on the edge of the driver's door, just above the handle, and a slight crack in the paint above the passenger door; you can see both of these small defects in the photos and video below.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Knightsbridge example looks great and in line with the low mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The chrome bumpers, grille, door, boot handles, and window surrounds all look in great condition too.

Interior

Finished in Alpaca leather with wood trim, the Knightsbridge offers a very quaint interior, suitable for this celebration of the model.

Seats and Carpets

The "Alpaca" leather seats have held their shape very well over the years, as you would expect for cherished and careful ownership. There are only slight signs of age on the seats in terms of the expected creasing to the leather that comes with age.

A similar story is told with the leather door cards, carpets and black rubber matts. The carpets particularly tell a nice story, looking clean, not lots of marks that you often seen on the drivers side. Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a dark gloss wood finish and presents three cream gauges in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this Mini shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~73,800 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A small and familiar leather Mini steering wheel is fitted, with a cream/black leather grip, it is equipped with an SRS airbag.

The original steering wheel presents in great condition in line with the mileage of this car, the cream/black gearstick looks good too.

Mechanics

Powered by the larger 1,293cc A+ Seriesengine with Metro turbo gearbox, the Knightsbridge swiftly reaches the speed limit without fuss.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the 1275cc A+ Series that has been honed to 1293cc, the car produced ~63BHP from factory, and power on the Mini Knightsbridge was delivered through the Metro Turbo gearbox with X-Pin differential.f

Alex reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth manual four-speed gearbox powering the front wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the Knightsbridge, and the smart engine bay, this video was taken last year.

Suspension and Brakes

Alex mentions the brakes and suspension provide an enjoyable journey with the kind of stopping power you'd expect. The suspension set up is standard rubber cones, which require very little maintenance. On our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a Mini from this era, coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

An extremely fun and enjoyable drive is offered with the Mini. Alex and his family love getting the car out for short road trips around their hometown, in its unique colour hue it's one that will stand out from the crowd at any Mini meet.

The Mini fired up first time with no issues to report. On the road with Alex, the car felt very tight, it had plenty of power to push it along the road. We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Alex reports that to his knowledge all of the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car. The car has an aftermarket stereo unit fitted as you typically see on Minis of this era.

History and Paperwork

1 of 4 Knightsbridge edition press cars still on the road, this example was used in the official Mini brochure to promote the sale of this limited run.

This car is one of the original 8 Rover publicity cars V202 LOE - V209 LOE made in 1999 prior to the launch of the 'final classic range' of Minis. Used in video and sale brochures to promote the final range of minis which were officially launched in March 2000.

Only 684 Knightsbridge models were made, 683 were made in left-hand drive for the European market and are all standard MPi cars. This one was converted to right-hand drive when privately purchased in 2000. The car was first registered and sold by Rover dealership - Startin's of Redditch in January 2000. Alex has owned the car for the previous ~15 months, before then the car has been owned by a family friend and Alex's brother. The car has bags of originality from all the important Knightsbridge bits. Take a look at the media to see all the history included within the sale of the car, a new MOT will be carried out in the next week or so.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Is it possible to add a video covering the corners of the scuttle panels and top of A-panels from different angles? Hard to see in photos the condition of paint work as in the video it quickly passes by both of them. Thanks
