Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

The original, and by some margin, the most charming of the Mini legacy.

Almost every moment of the Mini has been documented, from the original Sir Alec Issigonis's envelope sketch to Lulu driving the last one off the production line. As one of the most recognisable and influential car designs in the world, Rover kept the car in production as long as possible. To guide the design into its last decade, the last MK7 models offered side impact bars, driver airbags and multi-point engines with electronic management. Often considered the most refined and most usable, the last issues have become rather sought-after today. The final "Classic" range was announced in April 2000. Just 4,000 were produced in three colours, all with the same 63BHP 1.3-litre engine. Rover produced just ~374 editions in black, with under 100 cars made for the UK market. The Seven was badged as a tribute to the first Mini (the Austin Seven) and had an interior reminiscent of the 1959 model.

This example was registered in November 2000, just a month after the last Mini left the production line, making this original and unspoilt example not only one of the last Mini’s ever made but also a rare example of a Seven in dealer specification still in the ownership of its first owner. Coming to market from ~23 and a half years ownership from new, it comes with two sets of keys, its original order form, service book and an MOT to November 2024.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Everdina and Harry the owners, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Having owned this from new, I shall miss my baby for sure!

The car belongs to Harry’s partner, Everdina who bought it new in 2000. Used regularly until recent years, it is very much her pride and joy, and we were touched to see how attached she is to the car!

Sadly her beloved Mini falls foul of the current ULEZ charges, and combined with that recent lack of use, they both feel it's best to find the car a new home. Everdina and Harry are happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments below.

CONTACT OWNER

Exterior

As original as it left the dealer, the Mini is said to retain all of its correct fittings.

Wheels and Tyres

The 12" "Pepperpot" alloy wheels came with the Mini from new, they now show age-related marks with minor curb marks noted on the rims, but still very presentable as pictured.

The tyres are a mix of brands, with the most recent item dating from 2018. All display legal tread, take a look through the gallery to see the detail.

Bodywork

The body is well presented, with the panels fitting flush to the body, with no problems opening and closing the doors, with even panel gaps throughout. The floor pan of the car appears to be solid, with no outstanding issues. The subframes, inner wheel wells and suspension mounts also appear to be decent.

While free of dents, the panels show a few signs of age, with the windscreen scuttle and seams showing minor signs of corrosion, typical for the classic Mini. There are a handful of minor blemishes noted on the lower section of the body too but above the expectations of Mini of this age.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The paint finish is of a decent standard with a good lustre, although there is notable crazing on the top of the front wings and bonnet. The car is free of significant stone chips, with only a few light scuffs in places, we noticed a handful of minor touch-ups too.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is decent shape with good seals, there is a minor fracture noted on the nearside rear lamp, but otherwise, all are in good shape. The canvas roof is free of any noticeable damage.

The chrome trim is clean, with minor damage noted on the grille and rear bumper. The offside rear wheel arch plastic trim is slightly damaged. The Aerial has been taken off the car whilst being stored under a cover but it will come with the car.

Interior

Well looked after and completely original, this black leather cabin may well be unique for the Mini Seven.

Seats and Carpets

The owner specified black leather seats instead of the original red items when ordering the car. They are in very good condition, with mild signs of age on the driver's side.

The carpets and mats are clean, with no signs of dampness, with the boot carpet in decent shape too. Take a look through the photos for a detailed view.

Dashboard

The facia is well presented, with minor signs of age. The plastics have generally worn well. All dials and controls are in good condition however the heater control switches show some signs of age. Everdina informed us that the original cassette/radio unit is not working.

The door cards and headlining are a little dirty but should clean up nicely. There are a couple of minor blemishes we noted on the inside of the canvas roof.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather steering wheel is in very good condition, with very little signs of age. There are no significant issues noted on the gear lever or gaiter, just minor wear to some of the leather that can come with time.

Mechanics

The 1.3-litre fuel-injection engine is able and willing, running very sweetly.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine started up with no hesitation and no excessive exhaust smoke. It idles very smoothly without hiccups or rattles at any point during our visit. The hoses and ancillaries all appeared to be in good order, with the presentation of the engine above the expectations of a car of this mileage.

The gearbox performed well during our short drive, although Harry did point out changing down to second gear isn't the smoothest. No issues were reported with the clutch. Take a look at the video footage we've captured to see and hear the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

The typical bouncy characteristics of the Mini were evident during the drive but the car absorbed the road with no unwanted noises heard from the suspension. The ride was smooth, with no significant clunks heard at low speed.

The car pulls up straight when braking at 20 mph, with minimal vibrations noted on the steering wheel. Being a later model, it has a brake servo.

The Drive

We took the car for a little spin on what appeared to be the first day of spring, it's a shame we didn’t bring a picnic along with us. The car drove well in the light traffic, with the engine performing without fault. No clunking was heard from the steering on full lock, and even though there were three of us in the car, it felt lively and responsive.

Harry hasn’t reported any issues in terms of engine cooling, and the gauge indeed stayed static at temperature. The oil pressure is also said to be stable.

Electrics and Other

The car was fitted with an electric canvas roof from new, however, it wasn’t operational on the day of the visit. Everdina told us that all other electrics were working except the radio/cassette as mentioned earlier. The car comes with its jack, in its original case.

History and Paperwork

Rarely seen, this Mini Seven comes to market from its original owner, still retains its original new vehicle order form, and has bags of originality as you'd expect.

The car was ordered new in November 2000 from Rover main dealer G Kingsbury and Son in Hampton, it has been in the local area ever since. The owner has retained the original new vehicle order form and the service book with 8 stamps in it, 4 being main dealer as well as a handful of previous MOTs.

The owner has also mentioned that there are a few mechanical spares to be sold with the car. It comes with two sets of keys and has an MOT valid until November 2024.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned an HPI check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Thanks.
Did all of the paint crazing occur after this work in 2017?
Did Heritage panels get fitted or cheaper pattern parts?
It appears there is a gap between the rear quarter (RH driver side) and wheel arch trim – please check and confirm

Thanks Everdina and Harry
What panels have been replaced during your ownership?
Has the car been garaged or kept outside?
I note the sunroof does not work – has this been diagnosed?
Is there only one alarm fob?

Hello, a lovely write up. I have some questions:
No service book – unable to find or gone? Any accidents in the mini?
The mileage is high for a mini – has the engine been rebuilt professionally?
Has a price been obtained for a gearbox rebuild? Thanks

Good morning. Do you have a buy now price or do you only want to see the auction run through?
Cheers.
