What do you get when you combine American 4x4 styling with reliable Japanese engineering - an off-road monster; enter the Mitsubishi J53 JDM Jeep.

Back in 1953, Mitsubishi created a range of off-roaders known as the J-Series produced under license from Jeep. In the USA production of the Willys stopped in '65, however, Mitsubishi had a good thing going and carried on production until 1998.

This lovely example is a J53, and features a 2.7L Mitsubishi turbo diesel engine, perfect just the kind of hardy unit you want when taking this 4x4 off-road.

We really like the look of this example - a rare and unique car that has very low mileage a great conversation starter at any show or 4x4 trial event.

Wheels and Tyres

Check out these enormous GT Radial Adventuro A/T's ready to tackle any terrain on your travels. The tread on these look great, loads of grip for off/on roading.

The wheels look in great condition too, as you can see in the images - the 6 spoke design really does suit the look and feel of this vehicle.

Bodywork

We think the bodywork looks in great condition after studying all the images and videos from Glyn's visit,

We did notice a few small areas of bubbling on the front wheel arches.

Paint

Finished in a gloss black, we think this car looks great and it definitely stands out from the crowd - you can't be shy in this car!

Across the car, the paint is even in finish and colour as you would expect for car kept in such good dry conditions.

Glass and Trim

A fairly basic setup on this Mitsubishi Jeep with just one front windscreen to keep the rain and mud off your face.

The rubbers look in good condition and so does the chrome across the car.

Seats and Carpets

The seats look comfy yet very hard-wearing, easy enough to wipe down whatever weather you decide to chuck at them.

White numbers on black dials look crisp and clear.

Harry informs us they are all working too.

Various toggles and switches are nicely laid out over the dashboard.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original large Jeep steering wheel is fitted that makes manoeuvring this 4x4 beast a lot easier.

The gear stick looks to be in good condition too. with light rust to the stick itself.

Mechanics

Packing a punch with its 2.7L Mitsubishi turbo diesel engine, just the kind of hardy unit you want when taking this 4x4 off-roader out on a big adventure.

Engine and Gearbox

A turbo diesel engine is perfect for powering those GT Radial Adventuro A/T's and overcoming any obstacles in your way.

Harry mentions that the engine pulls just as it should and starts and runs very well.

Please inspect at the images and videos for a closer look, also the mechanical videos show the car starting from cold after a few weeks of sitting and also starting warm.

Suspension and Brakes

Harry assures us that the car handles as you'd expect and stops just as it should do too.

All-wheel drive suspension makes the ride pretty comfortable.

The Drive

Due to Covid restrictions we couldn't go out for a passenger ride in the car, however, Harry assures is the car drives really well with no issues. In recent times the car has seen most of its life on the tarmac, driving to shows or days out.

A very utilitarian vehicle with lots of luggage room and practical features perfect for any road trip.

Harry reports that the car is a great weekend car and super fun to runabout in.

Electrics and Other

Harry reports that all other electrics are working as expected.

Hi Andrew,

Apologies for my delayed reply.

In short yes, that is how it seems. Normally I would like to substantiate this with some paperwork however in the absence of this we can only go from MOT records and Mileage on the Jeep itself.

I also hope you along with the other bidders can appreciate from the photograph’s this jeep isn’t one that has seen a hard life and is in the condition I would expect to see for the mileage.
