Introduction

Andrew Taylor
Professional Consignor

Spending time with a Morris Minor soon underscores how engaging these little classics are. Almost everyone stops for a chat and to reminisce. It's the ultimate automotive ice breaker!

The Morris Minor first appeared at the Earls Court Motor Show in London in 1948. This is the third series Minor known as the 1000 series. A broad range of colours and trim options were available which kept the car competitive and thus enabled production volumes to increase and retain a significant share of the small car market.

Powered by the A-Series 948cc engine, a perky and resilient engine which was ideal for the masses. The 1000s are easily distinguished by their curved one-piece windscreen and larger rear window.

Current owner Gary has had the car for a few years now and has enjoyed every minute of the ownership experience. Prior to this the car has had just three owners spanning its sixty year life.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Andrew after meeting Gary the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Gary has an infectious enthusiasm for his Minor and has clearly enjoyed every minute of his stewardship of this little gem.

You only have to take a look at our "On The Road" video to get a sense of how much Gary has enjoyed having this little Moggie in his life; "I have taken my whole family places in this car and everyone has enjoyed it as much as I have".

After owning the car for ~3 years, he's looking to now sell and a new owner to take over as the custodian of this little British classic. We are sure he will be sad to see it go but will be happy to think of someone else getting as much pleasure from the car as he has, he'll be on hand to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

At sixty years young, this endearing Moggie wears her years very well. Not perfect, but charmingly well presented.

Wheels and Tyres

The Minor rides on 1960's steel wheels finished in off white to match the body colour. They look great with their reflective Morris hub caps. Each wheel appears in good condition in line with the mileage and condition of the rest of the car. They are centred with chromed hub caps exhibiting the distinctive Morris "M".

The tyres are in the appropriate, high side walled size and each one appears to have a good depth of tread remaining. Please take a look at the exterior photographs and videos for a full detailed tour of each wheel.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this Morris looks good overall and no significant areas of rust were noted or reported. There is the odd blemish as you would expect from a sixty year old useable classic, and signs underneath of surface corrosion from what we could see. These are pictured in our hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

The panel gaps all look great, especially for a car that is 60 years old. Doors, boot and bonnet all open and close positively. The off side passenger door is somewhat stiff and may benefit from lubrication or alignment adjustment by a new owner.

Paint

Finished in a typically period off-white colour, the paintwork looked good overall during our visit. Gary keeps the car covered and believes it was previously garaged which has clearly helped keep the paintwork bright and lustrous.

The coverage and colour of the paint appear even across each panel of the body. Again, given the age there is the odd area/blemish that has occurred; under the rear registration the paint has cracked and is covered, on the odd leading edge/panel join you might notice a little redness.

Please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks good on this car, free from scratches, cracks or chips. The chrome and rubber trim tells a similar story, clean and in great condition overall.

Interior

A Moggie's interior is a welcome antidote to the complexity of more modern cars. It's spacious and practical and charming as you like.

Seats and Carpets

Fitted with classic Morris seats, the fronts have been fitted with heavy duty vinyl covers which we weren't able to remove. The rear seats are in great original condition being trimmed in two tone vinyl complimentary to the rest of the interior.

The headlining, door cards and carpets follow suit and match the rest of the condition of the car, very good condition throughout considering the age. Please take a look at the images for a detailed view of the cabin

Dashboard

The dash is dominated by the signature large central dial, similar to the Morris and Austin Minis of the period.

The dashboard is finished in body-matching paint, which looks in great condition, some minor wear in areas, but retaining the classic character of this Moggie.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original three-spoke Morris steering wheel is fitted to this 1000, complete with the usual stitched steering wheel cover affording additional comfort. The steering wheel and gear stick present in excellent condition throughout with very little signs of wear.

Mechanics

The diminutive A Series engine is a delight for the home mechanic. Its size and position gives acres of access for those wanting to wield their own spanners.

Engine and Gearbox

The legendary 948cc A-Series engine was a big part of the success of the Minors and Minis. Robust, easy to maintain and zesty, they give the Minor the ability to keep up with modern traffic without too much trouble.

You will see from our cold start video that the car positively sprung into life and idled and ran very cleanly indeed. Take a look to also see around the very tidy engine bay, and a closer look underneath the car.

Suspension and Brakes

The Minor came with front torsion bar suspension, which was shared with the larger Oxford MO. No problems appeared to present on our journey in the car from the ride quality or braking system.

The Drive

The car is a lovely way to travel, seeming to transport you to an earlier, gentler time. The faces of passers by tell their own story as the car seems universally well received.

The drive is actually more modern seeming than you might expect. perfectly civilized with the interior being spacious and practical in equal measure.

Electrics and Other

The electrics are quite basic as you would expect from a 1962 car. The electrical features, such as the radio and lights appear to be in great condition and are reported to be working as you would expect.

History and Paperwork

The paperwork archive may not be extensive but the ownership history is outstanding. The car is understood to have been in the same ownership from 1962 until 1987.

The paperwork archive accompanying the car includes the current V5, a number of previous tax disks and some hard copy MOT's. There are also a number of invoices for work done by the current and former owners. Gary has owned this car for ~3 years, and there are just 3 former keepers before him.

We have listed the MOT history held on the DVLA database. We understand the second entry's mileage to be onerous and believe it has had an additional digit recorded in error.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
