Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

A classic 2+2-seated, rear-wheel-drive, V6-powered sports coupé.

1989 was the final year of the first 300ZX generation. The rear-wheel-drive sports coupé had classic 1980s styling, such as pop-up headlights, velour trim, and a strong focus on everyday usability. It carried forward the Fairlady Z tradition while leaning more towards a grand-touring character, with sports-car styling.

The naturally aspirated model uses the durable 3.0-litre VG30E V6, a single-overhead-cam engine producing around 160–170 hp, depending on market. Power delivery is smooth and torque-focused rather than aggressive, making it well-suited for street driving. Paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, the Z31 offers a more engaging driving experience than the automatic, with handling that feels stable and well balanced.

This example has been given an expensive full-body wrap and new alloy wheels, creating a unique look popular in the JDM scene.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Muse the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

With a fascination for Japanese classics, the 300ZX is always one Musa wanted to own.

The 300ZX had been one of the cars on Musa’s bucket list for some time. Finally laying his hands on a desirable manual Z31, he soon set to work putting his own stamp on it.

Having been completed for a few months, it has been enjoyed more as an ornament than as a driven car. Musa has now decided to move up to a second-generation 300ZX, which is the reason for the sale. He will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Stand out from the crowd! This Nissan 300ZX certainly gets you noticed.

Wheels and Tyres

The factory wheels have been replaced with a set of 7Jx15 Buddy Club alloy wheels finished in satin black with a red lip and there are some hub-centric spacers fitted to the front and rear, bringing the wheels out towards the arches.

The original wheels are also included with the sale.

The BCT S600 tyres are in excellent condition, having only been fitted a handful of miles ago, so there is plenty of tread remaining.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

Looking around the car, the door shut gaps appear to be equal on each side.

The custom body kit includes the front bumper and side skirts, and a rear spoiler has been added, all of which fit well. There is a gap where the bumper meets the bonnet, but this does look to be equal on each side. The boot struts are a little tired, and with the extra weight of the spoiler these don’t hold the boot up.

No dings or dents were spotted when looking around the car.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Originally, the Nissan was finished in white; this has recently been wrapped in a custom candy red wrap with added custom decals - there are a couple of minor blemishes, but nothing excessive.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to make up your own mind about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows all appear to be in good condition, with no noticeable scratches other than some minor age-related marks.

The side and rear windows have been tinted, with a darker shade on the rear half. There are a couple of dings in the window trims, but all the seals appear to be in good condition.

Both roof panels are in excellent condition and can easily be removed in a couple of minutes.

Interior

Very '80s and comfortable velour seats are the perfect fit for the Nissan.

Seats and Carpets

The original velour seats are in very good condition, with just the usual signs of age.

Both door cards are generally in good condition; however, there are a couple of small splits on the driver’s side.

The carpets are in good order in the cabin with no signs of excessive wear. Inside the boot there is a tyre compressor, valeting kit, and the original bags to stow the removable roof panels.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in excellent condition with no splits or cracks.

There are some centre-mounted auxiliary gauges fitted as standard, adding to the sporty theme of the 300ZX. The instrument cluster is in good condition. Musa tells us the speedometer cable has recently broken, but a new one is on order and will be here before the auction ends.

The odometer has a reading of ~89,990 miles at the time of our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in good condition and finished in Alcantara.

The gear knob looks to be original and in good order.

There is a small amount of age-related wear to the gear gaiter, but it would be an easy item to replace.

Mechanics

The super-smooth Japanese 3.0-litre V6 is just the ticket for this classic Nissan.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with the 3.0-litre V6, the 300ZX produces approximately 170 bhp.

The engine fires up without hesitation and runs smoothly, with no issues reported by Musa. There is an invoice for a timing belt kit, which was fitted in June 25.

There has been a custom exhaust fitted that has a deeper tone without being too intrusive. You may also notice a spark plug fitted to the tailpipe. This was for a ‘flame kit’ fitted by a previous keeper (a common Japanese scene modification), but this has been disconnected.

A five-speed manual gearbox is fitted, and the car pulls well through the gears, with a smooth gear change.

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the ride in the Nissan is smooth, and no knocks or bangs were heard coming from the suspension components.

The brakes bring the car to a stop in a straight line, with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

Driving the naturally aspirated 3.0-litre V6 feels smooth, balanced, and very 1980s in character.

The VG30E delivers steady mid-range torque rather than sharp acceleration, and the 5-speed manual keeps you involved without feeling demanding.

Steering is predictable, the rear-wheel-drive chassis feels stable at speed, and the car settles into a confident grand-touring rhythm rather than urging you to push hard. It’s relaxed, mechanical, and rewarding in an old-school way.

Electrics and Other

All of the switchgear appears to be in good condition, with no signs of excessive use over the years.

Musa has had to install a switch inside the glovebox to turn on the heaters, as there is a fault that controls the fan speed on the original heater panel.

A floating-screen head unit has been installed, which does have Apple CarPlay and works superbly.

History and Paperwork

Recently, £8,100 has been spent on the Nissan!

Since owning the car, Muse has spent £8,100 with a company that carried out various jobs on the car, including the unique wrap, which was completed on 02.01.2026. The invoice can be seen in the History and Documents section.

There is a current MOT, is valid until 05.08.2026, and it passed with no advisories.

According to How Many Left, there are just 67 Nissan 300ZX 2+2s taxed and on the road, making this a very rare and desirable Japanese classic, perfect for anyone wanting to jump straight into the JDM scene.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C, and an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen or has any outstanding finance, it did flag that the car was a Category D insurance loss in November 2016. Please note: this check does not include mileage verification.

We’ve summarised the car based on the seller’s information above. As always, we go to great lengths to photograph and film the car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own informed assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So grab a cuppa, sit back, and enjoy reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are welcome for all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a time – we just need to speak with you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If you have any questions, no matter how small, please ask the seller in the comments section below before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win, just like in a traditional auction.
