Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

A true British classic and a machine that laid the foundation for Norton’s post-war success.

The Norton Model 7 stands as a significant milestone in British motorcycling history, representing Norton’s first venture into vertical twin-engine design. Developed in collaboration with renowned engineer Bert Hopwood, the Model 7 laid the groundwork for the legendary Dominator series that followed. Powered by a 500cc parallel twin, it offered a smoother and more refined riding experience compared to the single-cylinder machines of the time, while still maintaining the reliability and robust build Norton was known for.

With its elegant, flowing lines, teardrop fuel tank, and purposeful stance, the Model 7 carries all the hallmarks of classic British design from the post-war era. Built to perform just as well on winding country roads as it did commuting through city streets, the Model 7 quickly earned a reputation as a practical yet stylish motorcycle. Today, it remains a valued piece of motorcycling history – admired not only for its engineering significance but also for its timeless design and rewarding ride.

Sadly this particular example comes to market from a deceased estate after long family ownership - it's clear to see it's been treated well over its ownership, however, the inheriting members of the family aren't mechanically minded, and as such have not been able to start the bike, or find help to recommission it, therefore, it will be sold as a non-running project.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Nicola the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It's been part of the family for a long time.

Sadly the Model 7 comes to market for sale after the passing of Nicola's Father, Nicola said, "My dad had a lot of love for this bike, it will be sorely missed but I want to make sure it goes to the right home".

Due to the bike coming to market as part of the estate sale, Nicola has decided it’s time for someone else to take on the Norton, and she’s more than happy to answer any questions about it in the comments section below.

As mentioned the bike is being sold as a non-running project.

Exterior

Vintage British style meets post-war performance - the Norton stands out with its timeless lines, chrome accents, and unmistakable presence on the road.

Wheels and Tyres

The Norton is fitted with multi-spoke chrome wheels. These are in great condition with very few marks and overall look really smart as you would expect from a quality bike like this.

Tyres on the Model 7, are an Avon Speedster at the front and Avon SM to the rear. The condition of tyres looks good overall, although we were unable to verify the age of these. With this in mind, it would be a consideration for the future owner to replace these. Please take a look at the photos for a detailed view of the exterior of the bike and a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

image

Frame, Fairing & Tank

The bodywork of the Model 7 showed in a lovely condition. The frame, fairings and fuel tank all showed with no damage noted around the bike.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the motorcycle for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in silver over black, it's a classic, sporty look. The paint appears in great condition and really shows how much care it's received. Each section presents an even coverage and colour throughout.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the bike as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images of the Norton to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass and screen on the instrument panel looks in good condition; we didn't notice any cracks or chips in it.

The trim around the bike again shows well, with everything where you would expect it to be. A nice touch on the Norton is the vintage style license plate holder on the front mudguard.

Badges and lights are in lovely condition to the front and rear.

image

Interior

The rider area here showed well on the Norton, lots of character and a lovely set up. Perfect for warmer days out on the road.

Seat

The sprung, black leather seat, looks in good condition, although we did note a minor scuff at the rear.

We've captured high-resolution photos of the Model 7. This covers off the angles over the seating and main frame area for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here.

image

Clocks and Gauges

Simple and straightforward, designed to keep the rider on the task ahead.

Everything in order and in lovely condition.

image

Handlebars & Grips

The bars and grips look to be in great condition, with no concerning wear noticed.

The metal clutch and brake handles also reflected the same quality on display.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the Norton in our gallery section.

image

Mechanics

The Model 7 packs a punchy 500cc parallel twin engine, delivering smooth torque and classic British character.

Engine and Gearbox

We were unable to confirm how the engine sounded or responded as we didn't take the bike out on the road.

However, visually the engine looked to be in great condition.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in great condition, with no corrosion or other damage noticed on the springs or dampers.

We were unable to verify the effectiveness of the brakes as we didn't take the bike out on the road.

Please take a look over the mechanical photographs to see close-up images from around the motorcycle.

image

The Ride

We were unable to test-ride the Norton, but it did roll freely to move to a position to take the photos.

image

Electrics and Other

We didn't test the electrics fully as we weren't able to ride the Norton on the road.

Nicola lets us know that her Father had no concerns with any of the electrical components, as far as she was aware.

History and Paperwork

A true icon of 1950s motorcycling, this Norton Model 7 stands apart with its low mileage, ~18 years of cherished family ownership, and exceptional condition.

Take a look over the gallery sections for all of the history behind the bike. There's not a great deal of paperwork history, although the condition on show and limited mileage covered demonstrates a great deal about the quality of this example.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the motorcycle has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the motorcycle based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the bike in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the motorcycle - just like a traditional auction house.
