Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Lightweight, pure and a truly engaging driving experience, the early 911’s are the authentic 911 experience enthusiasts strive for.

The 911 superseded the previous 356 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963, where it debuted to a captivated audience, quickly gaining traction in the world of motorsport thanks to its lightweight form factor and powerful engine. Benefitting from numerous revisions over the years, the 1973 model year benefitted from an increased displacement to 2.4L, the improved H pattern 915 gearbox, as well as a longer wheelbase was carried over from previous revisions.

This 911 T 2.4 comes to market from long ownership having been in the current owners hands for the last ~26 years, with just 5 former keepers registered. It has lots of originality, including the original service book stamped from authorised Porsche dealer "Motortune Ltd" in Brompton, London, in 1975. It is believed that the car remained with a dealer before getting its first registration 2 years later. The owner had a major exterior renovation actioned on the car in 2019 as photographed, with any corrosion that had developed over time cut out, and the car resprayed in what is believed to be its original colour. More recently the car had a major service in 2022 that included a new clutch, brakes refreshed all round and the engine seals replaced along with some of the oil lines as necessary. The works carried out in the past 4 years leave this car as an excellent candidate for a rolling restoration for someone to continue to improve elements like the interior.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Al the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've owned the car for ~26 years now, I toyed with the idea of selling 3 years ago, now I feel it is time for someone else to enjoy it.

The Porsche has been used just for leisure by Al, in his ownership he's covered just ~11,000 miles "I've been really proud to own the 911 T, it's a unique car and I like that it's just so rare".

Al has had some major work actioned on the car over the past 4 years after a period of the car not being used in the late 2010s "It would be a shame to see it go, but I don't have enough time to invest in it, and I'm starting to spend more time abroad with retirement". Should any questions be required, Al would be happy to answer these in the section below.

Exterior

The iconic 911 silhouette, this car has had extensive bodywork actioned to make it a solid example.

Wheels and Tyres

The original 15" Fuchs forged alloy wheels are in the classic black backed colourway. Whilst the finish is a little tired, the alloys themselves are in solid condition, and they could benefit from some restorative work to improve the finish.

The wheels are wrapped with Dunlop Sport BluResponse tyres with a tread spec of 195/65 to the front and rear, these have been replaced all together in September 2013 across the four corners. These look in good condition and appear to have a good amount of tread remaining. Take a look through the gallery section to see more detail on the 911 T.

Bodywork

The car underwent an exterior restoration in 2019, this has been documented in photographs where you can see typical areas like the "kidney bowls" were renovated, a new bonnet purchased, along with a sunroof delete being actioned. The panels on the car align well and we could see no visible distortion to these areas.

Overall the bodywork is in good solid condition as a result of the works actioned. We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Painted in what is thought to be the original Porsche colour of "Royal Purple" (Lilac), the paintwork has an even finish and colour across the exterior of the car. With time, the paint has some swirling to it, and so it would benefit from a machine polish to bring it up a level, and there was an imperfection below the petrol flap although we had to look fairly close to spot this.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

All of the glass sections around the 911 T showed well with windscreen, windows, mirrors and lenses all appearing in good condition with no cracks, chips or significant scratching that we observed on our visit. The front and rear windscreens were replaced in 2020. The roof lining was replaced along with the sound proofing in July 2020 after the sunroof delete was actioned. One of the rear lower reflectors is cracked and damaged as pictured.

Take a look through the gallery sections and review video, we take you across all the areas of the car as if you were standing there for yourself. This way, you can see in greater detail what a lovely looking car the Porsche really is.

Interior

The beautifully simple and now elegant design of the 911 dials look wonderful, the interior on this T shows its age and likely a job for the new owner.

Seats and Carpets

The tan finish on the seats compliments the "Royal Purple" exterior finish. The seats do show their age considerably, the drivers seat in need of restoration as pictured. The passenger seat needs a good level of cleaning and reconditioning, and the rear seats don't look like they've seen the same levels of use.

The carpets were replaced in July 2020 as part of some interior works, these look ok but would look great with some cleaning and tidying up. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images of the 911 T.

Dashboard

The classic 5 dial Porsche setup looks great on the driver facing section. Dash instruments present well showing no signs of fogging or display issues with the odometer showing a reading of ~260 miles on clock during our visit, after having completed gone round from 99,999.

The tan trim colour scheme looks great in the interior but there will be some work to do here by the future owner. Switches and controls look in good shape, although there is a hole that needs to be covered up where the radio used to be and there is a small puncture hole next to the ignition. We noted that some of the other trim was looking a little tired to the interior, looking over the door cards, these would benefit from a little work to bring them up to a better standard. Our interior gallery section takes you over some closer images of the 911 T's dashboard, head over and see the cars interior in finer detail.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic steering wheel features the Porsche logo embossed in the centre, which is holding up well for the age of it. To the best of our knowledge the steering wheel has never been retrimmed or dyed and is the original item, and is now in need of renovation.

The gear lever is intact with a black rubber gaiter fitted to this area. We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and check over the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

Coming from ~25 year ownership and with great service history, the Porsche would make a lovely investment project for the future and has a huge amount of potential under its shapely bodywork.

Engine and Gearbox

The current owner Al had a major service actioned on the car in 2022, where many of the oil seals were replaced, along with a new clutch being fitted too. The Porsche took a couple of attempts on the first turn over from cold, and then settled down.

We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. On the drive, we run through the motions, taking the 911 T through the gears and also get an overview from Al's perspective on how the car performs. We felt it was a little hesitant at times to pick up pace, the car likely needing a bit of a tune-up having been in storage for a while.

Suspension and Brakes

The independent suspension design of the early 911’s provides a good balance between comfort and performance. We noted no knocks, bangs or issue from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

The brakes bring the car to a halt in a straight line with no juddering reported to come through the pedal and worked as expected. The stopping power and control felt great and worked as to be expected since the car had a major brake refurbishment in 2022 that included new calipers all round.

The Drive

As is to be expected with any classic Porsche, driving this car is going to put a smile on your face no matter how you drive it. Whether it's the admiring looks from the passersby, or the excitement of feeling the car accelerate underneath you, the Porsche 911 T ticks the right boxes. Combined with the typically low Porsche driving position and driver centric dashboard design, means that the Porsche 911 T offers a very engaging and interactive experience for the driver.

Electrics and Other

The electrics in the 911 T are relatively simple and represent the minimalist stylings of the era. Uncomplicated and straightforward, the lovely Porsche makes up with charm what it doesn't cover in its mod cons. All of the current electronics are reportedly working as they should with the exception of the radio as this has been removed. The vehicle is in need of new engine lid struts to keep it open.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~26 year ownership, exterior renovation in 2019 and a major service with new clutch in 2022, this car is a solid base for someone to further improve.

The Porsche 911 T is a really rare example and has been with the current owner for the last ~26 years. This car, with its 2.4L "E" block, is a 1973 built model as per the VIN number, but was first registered in 1975, it is believed the car remained with a dealer for ~2 years before first being registered on the 22.01.1975 with 250 delivery miles. It has some lovely original features like the original service book and the car having been resprayed back to what is believed to be its original colour of "Royal Purple", after an earlier respray in blue by a previous owner. The car has also had four new tyres in 2013, a new clutch, replacement front and rear windows, new front and rear brake pads and calipers, front shock absorbers, new front bonnet and upgraded alternator over its current ownership.

We cover off the full listing of service history over in our paperwork gallery which includes all the historic receipts and MOT certificates from the previous years of ownership. Should any further queries be needed on the car, Al would be happy to answer these in the comments section below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and actioned a HPi check on the vehicle. Should any questions be required, Erto would be happy to answer any of these in the 'ask the owner' section.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house. This is an auction on behalf of a trade seller and normal auction rules apply, i.e. there is no warranty, no return policy and bids are binding with more info in our terms and conditions.
