Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner and Photographer

For Porsche enthusiasts, a first-year Porsche 911 Turbo (930) marks the beginning of the Turbo era - one of the most significant models in the marque’s history.

The Porsche 911 Turbo (930) didn’t just raise the bar - it completely rewrote the rulebook for performance cars. As Porsche’s first production turbocharged 911, it marked a turning point not only for the brand but for the entire automotive world, bringing race-derived turbo technology from endurance racing straight to the road.

At its heart lies a 3.0-litre flat-six, force-fed by a single turbocharger that delivers power in a way few cars before - or since - have managed. Below boost, it feels composed and deliberate; but as the turbo spools, it unleashes a sudden, thrilling surge that transforms the car’s character in an instant. It’s this raw, almost explosive delivery that gave the 930 its reputation - demanding respect, rewarding skill, and offering an intensity that modern cars simply can’t replicate.

Last year this first-year-of-production Porsche 911 Turbo (930) suffered an uncompleted sale process with another auction company, so is now once again available to the market. It presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most significant 911s out there.

As you all know, this is a remarkable car, well equipped from factory with full chrome trim, dual sports seats, Fuchs rims, chrome driver’s door mirror, and the electric sunroof; all of which add to the quality and rarity of this 930.

Coming from three decades of careful ownership, and benefitting from a previous restoration & engine rebuild works, this 930 Turbo is something really quite brilliant.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Doug the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

An incredible car - raw, engaging, and unlike anything else.

We met with Doug, the current owner, who shared his experience with the Porsche 911 Turbo (930), describing it as something truly special, he told us, “Every drive feels like an event, and you’re constantly aware you’re behind the wheel of something rare and significant. It’s not just about performance, it’s about the whole experience - there’s nothing quite like it".

Having owned the car for the last ~29 years and with his work on the car now complete, Doug has decided to bring his ownership to a close, and lets us know, “I’ll really miss it, but my focus has always been on the journey - understanding a car and returning it to the standard it deserves. This 930 is such a rare and important collector’s piece, and now it’s exactly where it should be. It feels like the right time for the next custodian to enjoy it".

Doug will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Instantly recognisable and purpose built - the 911's features deliver both function and unmistakable presence.

Wheels and Tyres

The 930 is fitted with 15" 5-spoke black Fuchs alloy wheels with anodised edges and Porsche centre emblems. Looking around the car, the presentation is really smart here - excellent condition.

Checking over each of the wheels in more detail, all of these appeared to be in lovely condition. It's a clear testament to the care and attention bestowed on the Porsche through its ownership, as to why these still look so good.

The front of the Porsche is fitted with Nexen tyres and a spec of 205/50 from 2025. To the rear, the car was fitted with Goodyear's with a spec of 225/50.

Being picky, we did note, that one of the wheel badges on the drivers side rear, was finished in black and not the traditional gold and red Porsche colours.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

Even at first glance, it's clear to see the 930 is nothing short of beautiful. Truly iconic, exceptionally rare and highly desirable.

The Porsche's bodywork is superbly crafted and maintains its original quality well. All the panel lines were visually straight, true and well-aligned - remarkable considering its ~50 years on the road.

Looking very closely at the passenger side, we did note a slight sign of paint bubbling to the finish on the door leading edge and the inner sill on the same side - nothing serious but worth pointing out.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Blue metallic is such a stand out colour for the 911 and compliments the muscular stance of the Porsche. The coverage of the finish is even and well matched.

It was difficult to find an area of the car that we weren't impressed with, but if we were being really picky, there were a couple of blemishes over the panels towards the front of the car and some slight marks to the roof area. We felt some focus with a good level of detailing would really make the finish excel here.

Overall, the car was an eye catcher and it was clear a lot of effort had gone into its upkeep over its years. Ownership of this model would be the envy of every other Porsche driver out there.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass areas over the Porsche were very well presented. Looking over the windscreen, rear and side windows, we found no concerns whatsoever.

Front and rear lights all appear in excellent condition, and we could see no signs of scratching or chips on the glass.

Badges and emblems on the bodywork are all correct and look very smart. It was clear that a great deal of care and attention had been spent on the detail over the 930.

We didn't note any issues on the seals on the exterior and the chrome sections reflected the same quality, showing to be in-line with the rest of the condition.

There was a small mark on the drivers side rear bumper trim.

The interior cabin trim sections showed well, almost like a museum piece in its presentation and preservation.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

Inside, it’s all about the drive - simple, focused, and unmistakably Porsche, with a cockpit that puts you firmly at the centre of the action.

Seats and Carpets

Step inside the cabin and you're greeted with something truly special. It's not often you see a car of this quality that has celebrated its 50th anniversary on the road, yet still looks remarkably 'cool'.

The incredibly rare MacLaughlin red and black tartan cloth finish to the seats is comfortable, supportive and showed a high level of presentation. Finished with black leather sides and backs, the seats looked smart throughout, just the typical note of usage to the drivers side bolster.

A very minor note, but we did spot that the fasteners to keep the back seats upright had worn slightly, which meant that these were laid down on our visit.

The floors are topped with black carpets that show in great condition and underneath these, the carpets on the floor pans showed no concerning issues. The boot reflected the same standard as the cabin, showing well, although a section of the carpet didn't clip back in correctly, a really minor observation here.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car - covering off all angles inside for you to review. A car that is absolutely worth a full look over in depth to truly appreciate the condition of what's on offer here.

Dashboard

911 style never goes out of fashion. Finished with a black dial, orange needle, 5 dial set up - the dash area is well set with the essential reads in clear view for the driver. All appeared in great shape with no concerns and no signs of major wear here.

The top of the dash looked good, just some signs of its heritage where the cabin trim was beginning to show a little misalignment in its finish.

The odometer showed with ~76,927 miles at the time of our visit.

Switches and controls all appear to be in beautiful condition, with surfaces free from any issues.

We noted no issues with any warning lights and the fuel, oil temperature, oil pressure, rev counter, speedometer and dash clock were all functioning without concern when out on the road. You'll notice the oil level gauge was moving around when out on the road - there maybe an issue with the stability of this, however, at rest it reported a constant level.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Porsche quality extends to the classic, 3-spoke black steering wheel. Keeping with the rest of the interior condition, we found no worrying issues here. The subtle Porsche crest emblem in the centre section was a highlight to the drivers area.

The same can be said of the gear section, where the stick, gaiter surround and trim all showed without concern. The cabin was a truly lovely space to be, with obvious care and attention paid to its upkeep.

Having to be seen to be believed, we've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

At its heart sits a turbocharged 3.0L flat-six that delivers power with explosive intent - one of the fastest production cars in the world for its time.

Engine and Gearbox

The 930 Turbo isn’t just quick - it’s an event every time you drive it, rewarding you with one of the most exhilarating experiences in automotive history.

Starting up, we noted no concerns and the Porsche performed without issue when running and out on the road. The car idled well and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all.

The manual gearbox is mechanical in its setup and showed no concerns with shifting the 911 through to the gears.

We did note that the engine bay struts were not able to keep the cover up, and you may note that in the review video, we've used a prop to keep this open.

We took the car out around some local roads with one of the team from the garage storage facility where the car is kept, to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting up and more detail in the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

Feeling solid and well balanced on the road, the Porsche drove well and was supportive. We didn't note any unwanted noises or feedback and performance and handling gave us no concerns overall.

The mechanical quality on the underside of the 930 presented no issues, and we didn't spot anything that we felt needed to be reported on. Again, being picky, a clean through underneath would be beneficial, although of course, not essential.

The brakes had no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car to a stop without a problem, and with the kind of stopping power you'd expect from this quality.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

Driving the 3.0 930 is an intense, old-school experience defined by raw feedback and uncompromising character.

Below boost, it feels composed and manageable, but as the turbocharger comes alive, the car transforms - delivering a surge that demands anticipation and precision.

The steering is direct and unfiltered, the chassis communicative, and the rear-engine balance keeps the driver constantly engaged. It’s a car that rewards smooth inputs and respect for its power delivery, where timing and throttle control are everything.

More than just a quick, good looking car, it delivers an analogue driving experience that keeps you fully involved every second you’re behind the wheel.

Electrics and Other

The Porsche impressed in all areas of review, and when looking over the cabin, we were pleased with the quality on show here.

The factory fitted equipment, such as; full chrome trim (code 446), dual sports seats (code 409), Fuchs rims (code 395), RHD single driver’s door mirror finished in chrome (code 423), and the electric sunroof (code 650) all add to the quality and rarity of the 930.

To finish off the Porsche, the car comes with a space-saver spare wheel and the original owner’s handbook.

We did note that the electric windows weren't functioning - this is currently being looked at by the storage company. Also the radio isn't picking up a signal - this is because there's no aerial, as during the restoration they didn't want to drill a hole in the wing.

History and Paperwork

Only ~284 1975 930 models were ever built, this is one of only ~22 right-hand drive examples delivered to the UK - extraordinarily rare and highly desirable.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, this 1975 Porsche 911 Turbo (930) is a true automotive legend - the very first year of the 3.0L Turbo. Instantly recognisable and highly coveted, it’s a car that turns heads the moment it appears.

Imported by Porsche Cars GB and sold through official dealer Hexagon Cars of Highgate, it was first registered in November 1975, representing a pristine slice of Porsche history. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, this 930 is more than a car - it’s a milestone in automotive performance and a timeless icon, making it an incredible investment opportunity too.

Offered from long-term ownership, this rare UK-market example has benefited from a meticulous restoration and remains in original factory specification, fully verified by Porsche GB, with the authenticity paperwork included.

It's estimated that over ~£25,000 has been spent on the upkeep and maintenance of the 930 over its years. The Porsche has benefitted from a complete body shell restoration, panel replacements, full bare metal respray, new carpets, restored seats and an engine rebuild.

Most of the works here were completed through the late 1980's and early 90's with evidence detailing the works achieved.

The Porsche is complete with over ~100 receipts, invoices and history through its life - finished with its Porsche folio and drivers manual maintenance record book. For a closer look at the detail, we cover this in our paperwork gallery section.

As is not uncommon with early Porsche 911 Turbo (930) models, the gearbox serial number is no longer visible. Due to its position under the car, over time, light contact from speed bumps and road use can wear away the stamped surface on these units - as discussed on 911 forums. Importantly, the gearbox casting number is correct for a 1975 model year example, supporting its period correctness.

Doug did originally have the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity many years ago, but it was lost with a previous storage company, however, Doug did confirm that the engine number and VIN are confirmed as original and matching against that document. Since 2021 sadly it's not been possible to obtain the certificates from Porsche.

Included in the sale is the Turbo 3.0 (Limited Edition) book by Ryan Snodgrass - this is around £300 to buy new.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi, just curious about mileage. Perhaps you could explain:

Between 1996 and 1998 I see 50K miles in 2 years?

AND another here between 1978 and 1979 another 40,000 miles or so.

Could you explain these huge jumps in the mileage please?

Thanks, Patrick

Hi Doug, please can you confirm what panels have been replaced and what areas have been welded, other than the O/S front inner wing which is visible in the pictures. Thanks.
