Introduction
Dom Ginn
Sleek and powerful, the 928 redefined the brand with the vision of what a Porsche could be.
Introduced in the late 1970s as Porsche’s vision of the future, the Porsche 928 marked a significant departure from the marque’s rear-engined roots. Originally developed as a potential successor to the legendary 911, the 928 aimed to combine the performance of a sports car with the refinement and comfort of a grand tourer - a bold move that showcased Porsche’s engineering ambition. With its sleek, aerodynamic design, distinctive pop-up headlights, and muscular stance, the 928 looked every bit the futuristic sports GT. Under the bonnet, it featured a front-mounted, water-cooled V8 engine paired with a rear transaxle for near-perfect weight distribution and balanced handling. This layout offered a driving experience that was smooth, powerful, and composed - ideal for high-speed touring as well as spirited drives.
This 928 comes to market from ~7.5 year ownership, and is a low mileage example with just 3 former keepers. It is a stunning example, with an interior that is both luxurious and uniquely characterful and of the period. The car has been well maintained over the years, and most recently had a cam-belt and water pump replacement as part of a service in 2023. If you've been looking for a well kept, low miles example of the original 928, take a good look at this one.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi David – I have a few questions if I may : 1. The spare wheel is corroded – is there corrosion under that wheel in the wheel well? 2. I see that you had epoxy treatment done – was this to address corrosion on the underside of the car (I note the mot advisory that the underside can’t be inspected because of the treatment applied). If so was the corrosion addressed? 3. The car was off road for it seems 13 years – do you know where/how it was kept for that time?, kind regards V
There is some rusting to the rim of the spare wheel and I have never used it but have removed some times to get to the battery, which is in a well with a lid, beneath the spare wheel. I have never been concerned that there was any significant corrosion in this location and the battery, well and lid are fine. I had the epoxy done as some rusting had been noted by Porsche West London to the underside of the car when it was bought and had the initial service. Nothing structural was required during the epoxy treatment process and it was really done as a safe guard going forward.
With regard to history I understand that Pete Chilvers kept the car for 25 years. Then the 2nd owner (an Edinburgh consultant) had it for 4 years and then the 3rd owner had it for about 10 years. When I bought it, the auction catalogue said that “During the time that the current owner and registered keeper had the car, it had seen very little use and has been kept in secure storage.”
I have always kept the car in a garage with a bespoke car cover.
Could you please advise me of of what you would consider needs attention on the car
In all honesty I don’t think anything really needs attention. The car has been well-maintained and the oil, coolant were done in summer 22,belts and pump have been done in summer 23. Allow for doing the oil and coolant every 4 to 5 years max and the belt every 5 years on low milage.
You could also think about getting the air con working or updating the radio cassette to a Porsche classic car nav and communication system.
The existing radio works but reception is not brilliant and the cassette player works if you still have any cassettes about!
Good afternoon David. Could I ask you what made you originally purchase the car. I am a passionate Porsche fan of of 50 years
I bought the car when I saw it coming up for auction in Scotland and I sent a local classic car restorer to have a look before I bid. He sent me an e mail that said that it was in ” Very good condition” and I duly bid and bought the car. I really liked the copper bronze colour as I wanted a car that was not another silver, black or red colour. I also loved the teledial rims and I am a big fan of the early 928 cars as the styling is more simple and to my eyes more beautiful. In addition I think the early cars are easier to understand mechanically and less sophisticated which can be a good thing if things go wrong!
Hi, where is the car located? Can I arrange a viewing please?
Hi, please drop us an email at [email protected] and we can arrange a viewing for you. Best, Kulraj – Trade Classics
hi regarding the time period you have owned the 928,did you purchase the vehicle from an auction in Scotland, morris leslie auctions, can you also advise on the paintwork the car had recently, thanks
Yes the car was purchased from Morris Leslie at auction in Nov 2017.
A summary of paintwork, all by Daytona Coachworx.
2020 Paintwork to rear bumper to repair local lacquer lift. A small alloy weld to the nsf wing lip. Porsche logo restored in gold as specified by first owner.Minor paintwork to wings at lower level around wheel arches and chippings to side.Existing Gravelex removed and redone in4 wheel arches and both sills.
2024 Teledial alloy rim was seen to be slightly damaged and was weld repaired. Front bumper was removed and repainted to restore existing crazed paint on u/s and repair small nick caused by me rubbing on garage gate.
Hi David, apologies if it is mentioned somewhere but how is the AC? I also noticed some mention of what sounds like a small accident repair (cracked number plate, dented panel, cracked wheel), could you provide any more details?
Hi, yes I did mention in my “To Whom It May Concern” letter that the a/c has not been updated and its something I meant to do but as time went by I just did not get around to it.The sliding sun roof in conjuction withe side windows were easily adequate for any hot day in UK.
I am not aware of any cracked number plates and there have been no small accidents whilst the car has been in my possession bar rubbing the front bumper on the garage gate in one small location and this was dealt with by Daytona. I have address the issues of paint and weld in my response to Mcleod above and would simply say that the car really is as good as you can see in the photos and video.
