Few classic cars come with the continuity of ownership found with this beautifully preserved Porsche 924 Lux.

Introduced in 1976, the 924 represented a significant departure from Porsche tradition. Its water-cooled, four-cylinder engine was mounted at the front, while the gearbox was positioned at the rear in a transaxle arrangement intended to provide balanced and predictable handling.

The clean, wedge-shaped body, pop-up headlamps, and expansive glass tailgate gave the 924 a distinctive appearance that remains immediately recognisable today. Its useful luggage space and small rear seats also made it a practical sports car.

John purchased this example new in 1985 and has remained its only owner ever since. Limited use means that it has covered an indicated 16,077 miles, while regular servicing, careful garaging, and a largely original specification have helped preserve it remarkably well.

A recent service and programme of preventative maintenance have been completed, supported by an invoice for £1,002. The car is now being offered for sale because health issues sadly prevent John from continuing to drive.

Meet the owner

The 924 always fitted like a glove and driven sweetly. I’d like it to go to someone who will enjoy driving it as much as I have.

John purchased the Porsche new in 1985, having been attracted by its aerodynamic styling, understated appearance, and its combination of useful performance and reasonable fuel economy.

He has remained the car’s sole owner throughout its life, always having been kept garaged, regularly maintained, and used sparingly - which explains the low indicated mileage.

John tells us that the car has never required major restoration work, with expenditure instead concentrating on routine servicing and preventative maintenance. He also confirms that it remains in its original 1985 delivery specification.

Unfortunately, declining health now means that John is no longer able to drive the car comfortably. He would therefore like the 924 to pass to a new owner who can continue to care for and enjoy it.

Exterior

Finished in a vibrant shade of Guards Red, this 924 retains the crisp wedge profile, pop-up headlamps and large glass tailgate that helped make the model such a distinctive design.

Wheels and Tyres

The Porsche is fitted with period lattice-style 15" alloy wheels, which complement its angular styling particularly well.

All four wheels present in good condition, with no significant damage or heavy kerbing immediately apparent during our visit. Some minor age-related marks may be visible upon closer inspection.

John’s accompanying notes confirm that the car remains faithful to its original 1985 specification (which is listed in the paperwork section, below)..

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The bodywork appears impressively well preserved, particularly considering that the Porsche is now more than four decades old.

The panels look straight, with consistent shut lines around the bonnet, doors, and large rear tailgate. We did not notice any significant dents or obvious areas of bodywork damage during our visit.

Its long-term garaged storage and single ownership have clearly helped preserve this car. The characteristic black rear spoiler, pop-up headlamps, and expansive glass hatch are all present and contribute greatly to the classic appearance.

New rear tailgate struts were fitted as part of recent maintenance work.

Paint

The Guards Red paintwork presents well overall, retaining a strong colour and attractive gloss across the body.

It suits the clean lines of the 924 particularly well and contrasts effectively with the black rubbing strips, window surrounds, and rear spoiler. We did not notice any substantial areas of deterioration during our visit.

Some age-related blemishes should naturally be expected, but the overall presentation is very good for a car of this age.

Glass and Trim

The extensive glazing is an important part of the 924’s design, particularly the large curved rear tailgate, which appears clear and free from obvious damage.

The exterior trim, lights, badging and black rear spoiler also present well. The distinctive pop-up headlamps operated correctly during our visit.

An electrically operated tilting (and removable) sunroof is fitted, although John advises that it is not currently working and will require investigation.

Interior

The tan cabin appears exceptionally well preserved for its age and is particularly evocative of Porsche interiors from the period.

Seats and Carpets

The front sports seats are trimmed in tan upholstery and present in good condition, retaining their shape and showing only relatively light wear.

We did not notice any significant rips or major damage during our visit. The rear seats also appear well preserved, while the carpets and surrounding trim remain consistent with the car’s limited mileage and careful ownership.

Some light discolouration and ordinary age-related wear can be seen upon closer inspection, but the cabin remains an attractive and very original-looking place to spend time.

Dashboard

The dashboard retains its distinctive period appearance, with the main instrument binnacle positioned directly ahead of the driver and three supplementary gauges arranged above the centre console.

The dashboard, vents, instruments and switchgear present well overall. The odometer indicated approximately 16,077 miles during our visit.

The passenger-side sun visor has a broken retaining clip. This is a relatively small item but has been noted for transparency.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Porsche steering wheel presents well, showing light wear consistent with its age.

The five-speed manual gear lever and surrounding trim also appear in good order. During our visit, the gearbox selected its gears cleanly and the clutch felt positive.

Together with the low seating position and clear instruments, these controls provide the simple and involving driving environment expected from a classic Porsche.

Mechanics

The 924’s front-mounted engine and rear-positioned gearbox form its characteristic transaxle layout, helping distribute weight more evenly along the car.

Engine and Gearbox

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine started during our visit and ran without any significant unwanted mechanical noises.

We did notice that it sounded slightly uneven or lumpy while running. Given the car’s very limited recent use, this may simply reflect a period of inactivity, although we would recommend that the next owner investigates and addresses it before placing the car into more regular service.

A recent invoice records the replacement of the spark plugs, battery, and fan belt. The old bonnet insulation was also removed and replaced with new soundproofing material.

The five-speed manual gearbox operated very well during our visit, selecting each gear cleanly. The clutch also felt good, with no obvious slipping or operational concerns noted.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension and brakes performed without any obvious concerns during our visit.

The car felt composed and stable, while the brakes brought it to a stop without noticeable pulling or unwanted vibration.

Recent maintenance included replacement brake hoses, fresh brake fluid and bleeding of the braking system. The front and rear suspension components were also cleaned, wire-brushed and treated with protective wax oil.

These works form part of a recent £1,002 programme of servicing and preventative maintenance intended to keep the Porsche in good condition.

The Drive

The 924 was designed to offer balanced and approachable handling rather than relying solely on outright power.

Its low seating position, compact proportions, and transaxle layout provide an engaging driving experience. John describes the car as offering good acceleration, smooth gear changes, firm braking, and confident cornering.

During our visit, the gearbox and clutch operated particularly well, while the steering, suspension and brakes behaved as expected. The only point we noted was the slightly lumpy engine note mentioned previously, which may be connected to the car having spent extended periods without regular use.

This Porsche should provide its next owner with an enjoyable and characterful classic driving experience.

Electrics and Other

The main electrical equipment appeared to operate correctly, including the instruments, lighting, and pop-up headlamps.

The electric tilting sunroof is not currently working. John’s notes suggest that its operating motor may require attention, although this should be confirmed through further investigation.

As previously mentioned, the passenger-side sun visor has a broken retaining clip.

Earlier paperwork also refers to the rear wiper as an item requiring attention. Prospective buyers should review the accompanying documents, photographs and videos and satisfy themselves as to the present operation of all electrical equipment.

History and Paperwork

An extensive history file accompanies the Porsche, documenting its remarkable single ownership and ongoing maintenance.

John purchased the car new in 1985 and has kept it garaged throughout his ownership. Its indicated mileage of ~16,077 is supported by its unusually well-preserved condition and the substantial collection of accompanying paperwork.

A recent invoice dated August 2026 records the mileage at 16,056 and totals £1,002. The documented work included:
New rear tailgate struts
Replacement brake hoses
Fresh brake fluid and bleeding of the braking system
New spark plugs
New battery
New fan belt
Cleaning and wire-brushing of the front and rear suspension
Protective wax-oil treatment to the suspension
Replacement bonnet soundproofing
New front and rear registration plates

An earlier, owner-prepared checklist referred to several matters for inspection, including the sunroof, rear wiper, a slight oil seepage, front wheel-bearing play and corrosion around suspension components. The recent invoice documents subsequent suspension preservation and brake work, although not every earlier point is individually recorded as having been rectified. Buyers should therefore study the paperwork and satisfy themselves regarding the current condition of any remaining items.

The cherished registration number is not included with the car, which is now back on “B530 FTU”.

The Porsche is being offered for sale only because John’s health prevents him from continuing to drive. This represents a rare opportunity to acquire a remarkably low-mileage, one-owner 924 that has been kept garaged, maintained regularly, and preserved in its original 1985 specification.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

    Hello. Please give more information about the cause of the oil leak that is mentioned on MOTs. Is that fixed now.
    Also, please tell me when the coolant was last changed, and have you taken steps to avoid internal fuel tank rust from modern ethanol in petrol. Thank you.

    John’s engineer is away for a few days so we’ll get more information soon. The coolant was checked during the recent service, but based on the invoice it looks like it wasn’t changed. The petrol tank has been purged fully to clear any long term debris; the fuel used is E5 supplemented with lead substitute additive, of which we have a stock that will go with the car.
