The original 911 supercar provides wild dynamics to match the style.

The 930 Porsche 911 Turbo is still considered the purist's ultimate 911. Given that Porsche has continued to develop the 911 model to almost perfection, the 930 is often considered as the benchmark for all 911s. Shatteringly quick when unveiled in 1975, it was built to comply with homologation regulations. As part of the metamorphosis over and above the forced induction, the Turbo offered revised suspension, larger brakes and a stronger gearbox, but it was the whale tail rear spoiler, wider rear wheel housed by the flared wheel arches and Turbo badging that helped to create the legend. Its first significant upgrade was to the engine capacity which saw it rise to 3.3 litres, which meant a re-profiled spoiler and further suspension improvements. The additional weight altered the driving characteristics, but it lost none of the flair. The 930 Turbo's appeal has all to do with the driving experience, the soul-stirring engine howl and the challenge of trying to tame what was often known as the "Widowmaker". The Turbo found further acceptance in the 1980s, boosted by its popularity amongst the City Slickers' cars of choice. Firmed up by its legendary status, the 911 Turbo remains one of the most recognisable Porsche models ever created.

Coming to market from ~7 year ownership and part of a collection of 911's, it is finished in "Grand Prix White" with a blue leather interior, it's beautifully presented and benefits from a recent engine rebuild. The car was documented as a Category C insurance write-off in 2001 after a spin and damage to the nearside rear bodywork, but was completely rebuilt to a very high standard as can be seen today. It is sold with a valid MOT until September, a regular serving record, its 6-digit ageless number plate, and air-conditioning that actually works!

Meet the owner

To say I have a bit of a thing for 911's might be a bit of an understatement, I've been lucky enough to own more than one, and this one twice over!

This car comes to market from ~7 year ownership with Paul, although he did sell it ~7 months ago... He has a real penchant for 911's as well as other classic sports cars, and this Turbo has formed part of his collection. After selling it, the buyer couldn't take his eyes off of the 1989 G50 Turbo Paul owned, and pursued that purchase. They struck a deal and Paul ended up with his white Turbo again recently, with just ~150 miles added on the clock!

Originally, Paul bought this Turbo after spotting the potential to bring it up to scratch, as it was bought with the knowledge of it having broken headstuds having been dry stored for some ~18 years. He did not need to do much to the metalwork as he saw that the car was solid, so his efforts were focused on the engine, gearbox and some paint at either end of the car. Paul is in the midst of an RSR rebuild, and so the Turbo is up for sale again! He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Beautifully presented in the classic Grand Prix White, the quality of its finish is impressive.

Wheels and Tyres

The correct 16" Fuchs wheels are in excellent condition having been refurbished. Just minor wear on the centre caps visible, the rest of the wheels look great.

Fitted with a set of Falkens to the rear, and Dunlop tyres to the front, they all look to have plenty of tread remaining. View the image gallery to see more detail.

Bodywork

The exterior presents very well. The panel fit is flush with even panel gaps and no damage or deformation. All of the doors open and close with ease. The underside of the car is solid and coated in clean underseal. The floor pan, engine bay, wheel wells, suspension mounts and sills appear in good shape. As mentioned previously, the car suffered accident damage and was restored in the early 2000's professionally.

Paint

Finished in its original colour of "Grand Prix White", the paint has an even and smooth coverage with a good lustre. We couldn’t spot any significant marks or chips on the finish, aside from a minor blemish on the nearside front arch lip.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good shape with decent seals. The lights and lenses look smart, and there are no issues with the rubber and plastic body trim. The bumpers are well-mounted and free of marks.

Interior

The interior is original and has retained much of its factory fittings.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in blue leather, the seats have mild creases but present very well, just the more pronounced wear on the driver seat bolster and areas around the electric controls. There are also a handful of surface marks on the passenger seat.

The mats and carpets are in good shape, with some wear spotted in the front footwells. The front luggage area is presentable with age-related wear to the carpet.

Dashboard

The car features the extended leather option, and so the dashboard and tops of door cards etc all have colour matched leather. The dashboard is free of fractures and generally presented well. We spotted some wear on the edge of the padding of the binnacle hood and some mild marks near the glovebox. There is also a hole near the ignition trim.

The switchgear and centre console condition are in line with the age of the car, the dials are all legible. The door cards are well mounted with light marks in places. The headlining and the rest of the trim are in good shape.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

On our visit, the car was temporarily fitted with a black steering wheel, Paul has fitted the blue steering wheel the car comes with after correct parts were acquired for fitment. This is presents in good condition as pictured. Please note the black steering wheel in some pictures and the video is not included in the sale.

There were no problems of note with the gearstick or its gaiter, again finished in blue leather.

Mechanics

Subject to a recent engine rebuild, the dynamics and performance of the 3.3-litre engine should reassure.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine has been subject to a rebuild by Carrera Performance, after Paul had noticed there was a loss in oil pressure from a rebuild he had had actioned before. As a result, the car starts up without any problems. It idles smoothly without undulations or unwanted noises as the dashboard warning lights remain off. The exhaust emitted a little condensation with mild carbon deposits but otherwise smoke-free. The car lives in secure storage, where there were no signs of fluid leaks on the ground. The engine is neatly presented. There is a pleasing amount of protective wax barrier liberally coated on the rear bulkhead.

The gearbox was also rebuilt as part of the work with a new clutch fitted too. It all operates smoothly, engaging gears easily. There were no problems with the clutch on the drive out, watch the video to see the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension was compliant and free of rattles or clonking. The brakes work without any issues and no grinding or squeals were heard.

The Drive

The 911 Turbo has a reputation for being difficult, much like a spoiled child, it needs to be catered for and encouraged to bring out a balance its behaviour. However, Porsche did much to iron out the inherited ‘rawness’ of the original '70s Turbos. As a result these 1980s models could be considered a dilution of the knife-edge experience, but it still needs respect.

Paul was careful, despite the near-perfect driving conditions not to press the car with wild abandon, and treated us to a casual but pressing test drive which impressed us to report that no unwanted noises were heard from the wheels. The steering is tight with no slackness with a good feel. The engine revs freely and pulls well as Paul powers through the gears. The car corners tightly, with no negative feedback and we were pleased to report how well the car handles in the process. Paul was sympathetic with the brakes, and in return, the Porsche was compliant with no vibrations or wobbles from the steering wheel. The oil pressure has remained in check since the rebuild and there have been no issues with the engine temperature.

Electrics and Other

An extensive engine rebuild has been carried out and has not covered more than a few hundred miles since then. Paul reports that the electrics are all working to his knowledge, and the AC actually blows cold.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~7 year ownership, this restored example of the flagship model from Porsche, also benefits from a recent engine rebuild and presents beautifully.

The service booklet shows a mix of main dealers and independents stamps up to 2000, where the mileage read 98,475 miles. There are also several invoices from this era which relate to mechanical upkeep and an additional service invoice at 101,634 miles. As mentioned previously, the car had a spin in ~2001 which results in an insurance write-off. The car was then restored, and it was discovered that the engine had broken head studs, and the car remained in storage after having had the bodywork professionally restored.

The Porsche has been consistently kept in dry storage by its previous owner, having bought the car from a local vendor who had owned it since 2001. Taken on by Paul about ~7 years ago, the car was acquired with broken head bolts. Subsequently, it has since seen an engine rebuild actioned by Paul, as well as some new paint, both of which have been documented by photos. The engine had all new head studs, valve guides, exhaust valves, recut into head with new stem seals, new spray bars for camshafts and rockers fitted together, with a new pair of cams from Neman Cams, the head was sent away to be skimmed and checked.

The parts fitted to the engine include:

New Pistons and liners.
Big end and small end bearings plus thrust washers.
Main bearings replaced.
Crankshaft regrind and re heat treated then polished.
New oil pump internal and turbo replaced including new bearings on oil. pump drive shaft.
Complete new crank seal and gasket set.
Replace both timing chains.
Turbo rebuilt by Turbo Developments.
New exhaust system.
New front mounted oil cooler.
New Alternator.
Distributor overhauled together with the ignition box.
New Plugs, Leads and distributor cap.
Refurbished Startup regulator.
Engine cover refinished.

Paul tells us the engine ran beautiful but noticed after a while (couple of hundred miles) the oil pressure was a bit lower than when it first ran. The car was then taken to Carrera Performance who thought it may be something simple. They then ended up stripping the engine and found that the bungs in the crank had fallen out which dropped the oil pressure. They sent the crank back to the company who had originally refurbished it and then rebuilt it. The end result though is an engine that now pulls like it should.

It comes with two keys, an MOT to September 2025 and its 6-digit ageless number plate.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned an HPI check on the vehicle - The car is recorded as a Cat C insurance loss in 2001 as it was involved in an accident, damaged but repairable. A series of photographs of the damage were taken and are included in the history section.

Hi, Thank you for your interest. There is no rust in the car. Before i bought it, it had been dry stored. You are welcome to come and inspect the car today before the auction finishes or perhaps I can do a a whatts app Facetime call
Carrera Performance rebuilt the engine on the car and literally everything internally was replaced as it before had suffered with low oil pressure. So new pistons , crank regrind ( and blackened)cams, oil. pump within the engine plus turbo oil pump,head studs, turbo rebuilt plus numerous other parts. The car starts on the button with no smoke. At the same time the gearbox was rebuilt in my workshops and a new clutch put in.
There is no current advisories.
