The Porsche 911 Carrera Targa (3.2) represents the sweet spot of the air-cooled era, where classic Porsche character meets everyday usability. Its instantly recognisable silhouette, timeless proportions, and distinctive brushed-steel Targa bar give it unmistakable presence, whether parked or carving down a winding road.
At its heart lies the legendary 3.2-litre flat-six - an engine revered for its durability, responsiveness, and unmistakable air-cooled soundtrack. Power delivery is smooth yet purposeful, offering a deeply engaging, analogue driving experience that modern cars simply can’t replicate. The steering is communicative, the chassis perfectly balanced, and every drive feels like an occasion.
The Targa roof adds another layer of appeal, allowing you to enjoy open-air motoring without sacrificing the structure and refinement of a coupe. Practical, charismatic, and endlessly rewarding to own, the Carrera Targa is not just a classic 911, it’s one of the most usable and desirable examples of Porsche’s golden era with the desirable G50 gearbox too.
This lovely example, comes to market from ~10 year ownership and has been garaged stored with its current keeper.

Looks like corrosion nearside headlight ?
Any signs of corrosion underneath?
Hi,
I don’t think there is any corrosion on the nearside. There is some blistering/corrosion under the paintwork on the offside front wing. No corrosion underneath. There was some corrosion on the offside front jacking point however I had this rectified a couple of years ago. I bought the jacking point section from Porsche and had my bodyshop cut out and replace properly.
Many thanks, Simon
Hi ya
On Cazoo it says it’s Tiptronic which I assume means sportomatic but on trade classics it says it’s manual. Could you clarify please. Regards. Garry
Hi Garry,
The car has the original G50 gearbox which is a 5 speed manual, I don’t think they ever fitted the Sportomatic gearbox to these. I would disregard anything Cazoo says I’m not sure how much they know about air cooled Porsche’s/classic cars. If you have any other questions please do let me know.
Many thanks, Simon
Hi Simon, you state that you do not typically take the car out in the rain but do you know if it watertight? Have you been caught in the rain and had a chance to test it against leaks? Also does it start ok after sitting for long periods (many weeks) unused? Does it drain the battery when sitting unused or do you disconnect the battery when not using?
Thanks.
Hi Brian,
Yes the car is water tight, when I wash the car it does not leak. Also when the targa roof was refurbished Southbound leak/hose test it to ensure no leaks. The car always starts regardless. The battery doesn’t drain and can go three weeks from last being started however if I am not using the car I will disconnect the battery or trickle charge with a Ctek charger.
Any other questions please do let me know.
Many thanks, Simon
Thanks Simon.
Hi Simon
It’s in picture 77/244 and it’s also shown on the walk round video.
Thanks
Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you. This is the offside front wing and is bubbling under the paintwork, not a stone chip. This was there when I bought the car around 11 years ago and hasn’t got any worse in my ownership.
Many thanks, Simon
Hi Dave,
What photo is this in please? I will then check and confirm.
Thank you, Simon
Hi Simon
Forgot to ask about the n/s/f wing just below the headlamp.
Is it bubbling rust or a stop chip that has been touched up?
Thanks
Dave
Hi smon it looks like a nice car and I have a few questions for you. I will not be able to view the car but would like to establish a bit more about the details Firstly around the service history, in your ownership how has the car been maintained? It appears from the Amoy history much of the last 10 years the car has been off road. There are various invoices for replacement interior parts and a few other ancilliary items in that time but in terms of service, Since 2016 the car has covered c.1500 miles. How have the oils, brake fluids, trans fluids, bushes etc been maintained in that time please and are there invoices for this or at least the parts.
Then onto bodywork and exterior. Did you have the 2016 renovation of the roof and interior and seals done or was that before your ownership? I’m interested in whether the car was repainted at that time and if any extensive bodywork was done. It would be common to see kidney bowls and so on. Dis you have the car thoroughly inspected when you purchase and how certain are you about the car’s integrity below the paint – jacking points, inner sills and so on? You may have had an inspection done or some work or had a good prod around?
And finally does the car drip any oil, even the smallest amount, on the floor after parking?
The car drips zero oil. Happy for you to inspect where the car has been parked. In short it is a very good example that drives as it should and has been a great car in my ownership and not really caused me any issues. It is certainly not immaculate or concours but a good honest example that can be driven, shown and enjoyed. I have too many cars and not enough space and time hence the reason for sale. Any other questions do let me know and I will come back to you.
Many thanks, Simon
The refurbishment of the targa roof was carried out in my ownership by Southbound, they completely refurbished the roof including new seals, catches, powder coating frame etc etc. This is water and wind tight now. I have never had any paintwork carried out in my ownership. The car has definitely been repainted but I believe this was prior to the last owners ownership also so around 2014. I had a good look at the car and underside before I bought the car and also throughout my ownership, the only area that needed attention was the offside front jacking point, this was slightly corroded so I bought the jacking point section from Porsche and had this cut out and replaced properly. This was carried out by the bodyshop I use in Staffordshire who I have used extensively over the years. I also have photos of this if required.
Hi,
Thank you for your question.
You are correct, I have used the car on and off for the past 11 years. When it’s been on the road I have used it in the summer and when off the road it has been in my unit. The car has been started and run up to temperature from time to time and also moved in order to get other cars out and driven down the private lane. In terms of servicing etc it has been maintained and serviced when required – not every year as it hasn’t been driven every year on the road but I have had the car serviced. The last service and check over was carried out on 6th June 2024 at 124,250 miles which included a new battery, oil & filter change, spark plug change, engine tune & CV boots. I have another invoice from 2016 and I have also had two more oil changes carried out by a good friend of mine who is a Porsche specialist. I do not have invoices for these oil changes but they were oil & filter changes with genuine filter and Mobil oil.
Hi Simon
Thank You for your response and checking.
Just so I know before bidding
Hi Simon
Thanks for your response.
I’ve had the same trouble trying to log in.
Please could you also look into the following and get back to Me.
I’d appreciate it you could watch the video “on the road”.
At the time interval of 5.44 when showing under the front valance,
It definitely looks like corrosion.
The engine cover rubber stops are in pic 10/71, but you have to zoom in.
Looking again, it might be a reflection from the paint.
In picture 54/71 there seems to look like corrosion where the Two sills meet the wheel arch.
Kind Regards
Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your message.
Just looking through the video until 5:44, definitely no corrosion I can see in the video but also on a ramp etc I’ve looked at the car several times and there has never been any corrosion there. The only corrosion I can see or confirm is the tow hook at the bottom where it is slightly orange/brown in colour – this is surface corrosion where this has been scuffed previously as it is the lowest point on the underside of the car at the front. The paint or underseal has been scuffed and therefore left unprotected metal and has caused surface corrosion (the orange/brown colour) but this is 100% solid and could be treated and repainted.
No paint on the rubber stops, the right one does look slightly red from the photo in 10/71.
Photo number 54/71, the rubber underseal is coming away/peeling away from the metal leading edge/sill. It is solid but of course this could be stripped, cleaned and reapplied to prevent anything in the future.
Hopefully this helps but please do let me know if you have any other questions, I’m more than happy to check. The car is stored 20 minutes or so away but I can check before the auction ends.
Kind regards, Simon
Hi Simon
Please can you explain the following…1.overspray on the exhaust and Engine cover rubbers?
2. How bad is the corrosion on the front valance near the towing eye?
Thanks
Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your question and apologies for the delayed reply, I have been unable to log in until now.
The overspray on the exhaust must be overspray from previous paintwork, this has always been there in my ownership – I haven’t had any paintwork carried out and neither has the previous owner so not in the past 14 years or so anyway. This could be removed if it bothers you but cannot really be seen unless you look underneath the car.
In regards to the engine cover rubbers I haven’t noticed this, what photo is this visible in please and I can take a look at the photo and car and come back to you.
Are you referring to the tow eye at the front of the car underneath the boot? If so there is no corrosion there, not sure if that photo portrays it that way but definitely no corrosion present.
If you have any other questions please do let me know and I can let you know.
Kind regards, Simon
