A stylish and modern Porsche classic matched with superb handling with a torquey 3.0L under the hood.

The 944 was first introduced in 1982, it was a new front-engine, rear-wheel-drive mid-level sports car based on the 924. In 1989 Porsche introduced the S2 which had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the Turbo model, and the largest production 4-cylinder engine available at the time. A new gearbox came with the model to, to utilise the ~208BHP on offer, and in manual guise these can be considered a bit of a driver's car.

This 944 S2 comes to market after 6 years of ownership, and 9 former keepers registered. It's a lovely drivers example having covered ~128,000, coming to market with ~12 months MOT, and recently having had some remedial work actioned with new slave and master cylinder for the clutch.

6 years of proper good fun, reports Graham

Graham has thoroughly enjoyed the car as a weekend cruiser with his wife. He loves driving the car and appraises the tight and responsive handling paired with the torquey 3.0L front-mounted engine. When he came across this 'Baltic Blue' example with Cream leather seats he knew it was the one for him.

Over the last year, he hasn't been able to enjoy the car as much as he'd like and therefore has decided to find a like-minded Porsche enthusiast to hand over ownership to. Graham will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Receiving the same front and rear as the Turbo, the revised 944 S2 with pop up headlights still has that iconic 80s look.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with Porsche Design 90 16" alloys, the wheels on this car look in used condition in line with the mileage. They would benefit from a really deep clean and/or a refurb in areas.

Wrapped in Falken ZEIX's rubber all around, the tyres are dated 2019, and appear to have a decent amount of tread left for the new owner. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer view of the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The car stands straight and true, panel gaps etc look ok as does the soft-top fit. With its 33 years on the road, the car does have a number of little dents, as pointed out in the pictures. We also noticed early signs of surface corrosion around the offside side skirt, a typical issue on this model, and some other areas of surface corrosion as pointed out.

Paint

The "Baltic Blue" paintwork on this car looks good, yet would benefit from some professional touching up in some areas. With the age and mileage, there are a number of marks/scuffs etc across the body panels that comes with use.

Glass and Trim

All the glass, rubber and seals appear in line with the age and mileage of the car. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer view of the glass and trim.

Interior

Designed for the driver, the 944 is fitted with everything you'd ever need for a grand road trip - tastefully styled.

Seats and Carpets

Cream leather seats are in good general condition within this 944, but the bolsters show some creases on the leather and some colour has worn away in the creases too.

The carpets tell a similar story, clean and tidy just as you would expect. The carpet lining the book would benefit from some attention.

Dashboard

The dashboard follows the rest of the interior, in enjoyed yet ok condition with signs of wear. All the dials, switches, controls and gauges look great and Graham reports they're all working to his knowledge. We did notice quite a few cracks on the top of the dashboard.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both the steering wheel and gear stick appear to be in good original condition, the stitching and condition of the leather look good on both, ready to be enjoyed by the new owner.

Mechanics

A torquey 3.0L 4 pot, manual gearbox and rear wheel drive, Porsche created a very capable sporting roadster.

Engine and Gearbox

On our visit we actioned a cold start as captured in the video. The car fired up, and we didn't observe any smoke etc from the exhaust on gentle revs of the engine.

We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows the car out on the road and a view around the engine bay. On the short trip out, the car went through the gears with apparent ease. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the engine bay. More recently, the car has had new slave and master cylinders for the clutch fitted. In addition to this, the car had a major service which included belts and a de-coke of the head, ~4,000 miles ago in 2015.

Suspension and Brakes

Graham confirms that suspension and brakes work exactly as they should and, this being a Porsche, will be well matched to the car's performance. We did notice a small squeak coming from the brakes, Graham mentions this is probably due to lack of use.

The Drive

On our short drive with Graham for the mechanical review, the video showed the car performing well, this 944 is comfortable and there are no obvious unusual noises that we could hear.

Electrics and Other

Graham advises that all lights, switches and CD player, electrics work as they should to his knowledge.

In desirable cabriolet form, this 944 S2 comes to market from ~6 years ownership and as a drivers example, could be considered a good value sporting roadster.

Registered new on the 23rd November 1989, this car has been enjoyed by Graham over the years. There is a record of a brake fluid change and 10 service stamps in the maintenance/service book.
