Professional Consigner

Arguably the best of the 994's, the S2 had a torquey 3.0L 4 cylinder engine and a revised transmission to match.

The 944 was first introduced in 1982, it was a new front-engine, rear-wheel-drive mid-level sports car based on the 924. In '89 Porsche introduced the S2 which had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the Turbo model, and the largest production 4-cylinder engine available at the time. A new gearbox to utilise the ~208BHP on offer, in manual guise it's a bit of a drivers car.

Michael is bringing his early 1989 944 S2 Cabriolet to market. Just 2 former keepers, one of which was his brother, the car having been in the family now for 13 years.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kevin after meeting Michael the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A car you'll be able to have a lot of fun in, with summer just around the corner.

Michael has enjoyed using the car on the weekends and whenever fair weather permits. He knew exactly what 944 he was after and when coming across this example finished in Guards Red. During his ownership he's had the interior refurbished, and always had the 944 S2 in his garage.

Over the last year he hasn't been able to enjoy the car as much as he'd like and therefore is making the decision to hand over ownership to a likeminded enthusiast. Michael will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

The 944 S2 received the same front and rear as the Turbo, a definite improvement on the standard 944.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with Porsche Design 90 16" alloys, the wheels on this car look in great condition. Wrapped in Continental ContiSportContact premium rubber, the car has really been cared for with lots of tread left for the new owner.

We did notice some very slight curbing to the rear O/S wheel, however, you'll have to get really close to notice it. Please view the detailed photos and videos of the wheels and tyres.

The car has been in the careful hands of Michael. There are no issues that stand out to suggest accident repair. Each panel is straight, with no significant dents or damage.

The doors open and close with no issues and they hang as they should do. Please take a look at the exterior videos and photographs for a closer view of the 944 sleek bodywork.

The paintwork on this car looks great with beautiful reflections during our consignment visit and photoshoot.

The paintwork has good lustre and the paint is even in colour and finish across the car, just some minor stone chips on the front and swirl marks that you'd expect to come with age. Take a look at videos and photographs of the paintwork.

Glass and Trim

All the glass, rubber and seals appear in great condition with no significant damage as you would expect.

The trim looks great around this 944 too. Michael has added a couple of velcro patches to the soft-top as pictured, these are just on the pressure points when the roof is folded to protect it from rubbing too much.

The cabin of the 944 is fitted with everything you'd ever need, tastefully styled in '80s Porsche styling.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are in very good condition with no significant wear, the bolsters look good with very little creases on the leather, we particularly like the 944 S2 pin-stripe cloth cushions on this part-leather interior. The seats were refurbished in Michaels ownership.

The carpets are a similar story, very clean and tidy just as you would expect.

The dashboard follows the rest of the interior, in very good condition with little signs of wear. All the dials, switches, controls and gauges look great and Michael reports they're all working to his knowledge.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the interior.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both the steering wheel and gear stick appear to be in good original condition, the stitching and condition of the leather look great on both, ready to be enjoyed by the new owner.

Superb handling coupled with a torquey 3.0L 4-cylinder power-plant.

Engine and Gearbox

Please take a look at the mechanical video showing this 944 S2 starting from cold without any fuss. Michael reports an excellent drive in the 944, plenty of power when required with excellent handling - 0 to 60 in 6 seconds. In his ownership, Michael has had the cam-belt and water pump replaced most recently in the summer of 2017.

The gearbox is said to be fully functional with no issues.

Suspension and Brakes

All the running gear is said to be in well-maintained order, brake pads/sensors/discs etc replaced over time.

Please take a look at the photo and videos of the brakes and suspension for a closer look.

The Drive

Three decades on and this Porsche still turns heads.

This is the 944 everybody wanted, with the 3.0L offering 208BHP, Michael reports a great sporty drive in this example, especially when you get a chance to pop the roof down and enjoy the fresh air with a naturally aspirated soundtrack.

Electrics and Other

As expected for a car that has been well looked after, the electrical system is in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The car is fitted with a third party radio, with USB and AUX connections.

History and Paperwork

The 944 S2 demands a premium over its older siblings, in cabriolet form it's perfect for the summer.

The car has had 2 previous owners before Michael, one being his borther, and the paperwork shows regular servicing for a second car.

The car comes with its original manuals and service book, please have a look through the detailed information in the paperwork photos. Michael had the front seats re-trimmed when he first took ownership, and has kept the car maintained with his local garage.

We've actioned checks on: Seller ID, V5, HPi.

Just to confirm please that the car is registered and MOT’d so ready to drive away? The registration G808 YRX is not recognised on any sites hence the question.

Thanks Nick

There is a lot of red paint under car has this been sprayed recently?

What’s the oil pressure cold and hot ?

Has it had the front wings repaired as they rust ?

Any oil leaks?

  Mike L

The wings normally rust at the bottom of the wings as it was a common fault and nothing to do with being galvanised so may have been done before you.
Oil leak since 2010 and still present now what is it and why wasn’t it dealt with?

  Mike L

The invoice you mention from ferdis garage is dated 2016 but the mot just done shows that it has an oil leak as well as other advisories ?

  Mike L

I was referring to the mot that has just been done NOT the one in 2016 and I never asked about the tyres ??
