Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

Sharp, balanced, and built to thrill - the Porsche 944 S2 is where precision meets passion.

The Porsche 944 S2 stands as one of the finest evolutions of Porsche’s front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car lineage. Positioned near the end of the 944’s production run, the S2 combined the balanced chassis that made the model famous with a significant boost in performance and refinement, making it one of the most complete transaxle Porsches ever built.

At its heart is a 3.0-litre inline-four engine, the largest four-cylinder production engine of its time, producing ~208 BHP. This gave the 944 S2 strong, smooth power delivery, paired with excellent handling thanks to its near-perfect weight distribution. Unlike the turbocharged variants, the S2 delivers its performance in a more linear and predictable way, appealing to drivers who value precision and control over outright boost.

Visually, the S2 borrowed styling cues from the more aggressive Turbo model, including a rounded nose and integrated rear spoiler, giving it a more modern and purposeful look. Inside, it offered a driver-focused cockpit with improved comfort and build quality, reflecting Porsche’s growing emphasis on usability alongside performance.

Today, the Porsche 944 S2 is widely appreciated as a sweet spot in the 944 range - offering classic analogue driving feel, solid reliability, and understated styling. It represents a period when Porsche was refining its engineering philosophy, creating cars that were as enjoyable to drive daily as they were on a twisty road.

Coming from just over 6 years with our vendor the car features include an immobiliser system, sports seats and steering wheel, auto heating controls, Blaupunkt amplifier and optioned sunroof. The Porsche is finished with 2 sets of keys, 20 stamps in its Porsche service booklet, a fresh, advisory free, MOT valid until 2nd June 2027, and new front discs and pads fitted in June 2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Mark the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A beautifully balanced classic - great handling, timeless style, and pure driver-focused performance in one underrated package.

Mark, the current owner, has long had a passion for quick, characterful classics, having enjoyed a variety of different cars over the years.

While searching for the right example, Mark found this 944 and knew it was the one. He explains, “As soon as I saw this car, I didn’t hesitate - I’d been on the hunt for a while trying to find a really good 944. It’s not easy to come across one in such solid condition at a sensible price, but this one ticked all the boxes for me”.

Although the 944 has been one of Mark’s most enjoyable cars to own, the time has now come for him to move it on. He says, “I’ve genuinely loved owning and driving it, but with another car already in the garage, I simply don’t have the room to keep both. It wasn’t an easy choice, but this is the one I’ve decided to let go".

If you have any questions about the car, Mark would be more than happy to respond in the comments section below.

Exterior

The 944 combines clean lines with muscular arches and perfect proportions - a timeless design that still turns heads today.

Wheels and Tyres

The 944 is fitted with 16" 7-spoke alloy wheels with Porsche centre emblems. All appeared to be in good condition, although we noted age related marks and some wear to the finish to the rear wheels. Overall though, they complimented the car really well.

The front of the Porsche is fitted with Toyo tyres and a spec of 225/45. To the rear, the car was also fitted with Toyo's with a spec of 245/45. The tyres were replaced in 2021 and have travelled limited miles since.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the 944 showed in good overall condition. Looking over the exterior, the panel lines looking straight and well-aligned.

We did note some signs of age to the exterior, on the rear wheel arch bases, on the sill area, there are signs of corrosion noted and some areas of the lower trim had started to come away slightly from the main body of the car - the low reserve has been set considering this.

There was a sign of paint bubbling to the front window top edge and a very small ding to the rear quarter. Overall though, these observations didn't detract too much from the overall appeal of the S2.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Showing well in a classic coat of grey, the coverage is even across the car with no noted imperfections to colour. The current owner, Mark, mentions that he's never taken the car out when the roads are colder and gritted, part of the reason the car shows as well as it does.

We didn't note any real concerns with the paint, apart from a paint chip to the rear passenger side trim and handful of small marks across the front of the car.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen, side windows, front and rear lights all appear in great condition, and we could see no signs of concerning scratches on the glass.

Badges and emblems are present and look smart.

There was a small ding to the rear bumper section.

The interior cabin trim sections showed well, just a couple of very minor marks.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

The cabin area is unmistakably Porsche, with supportive seats and a cockpit designed for effortless control and connection to the road.

Seats and Carpets

The seats showed nicely and looked presentable - there was some minor wear to the driver's head rest and bolster, but nothing too worrying. The passenger seat showed with limited use, displaying well. There were a few marks noted to the backs of the front seats.

The rear seats showed in good condition, although had some small signs of marking and age to the finish. The Porsche script embossed onto the cloth finish was a lovely highlight to the seating areas.

Black carpets show in a good condition, just some slight wear to the drivers side carpet. Underneath the cabin carpets on the floor pans, showed no real issues. The boot showed well and we had no concerns when we looked over this section.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

Dashboard

The black dash across the centre console all appears in good shape, and no signs of cracking or warping to the presentation.

The classic 5 dial set up in the Porsche looked great and these were all functioning as expected. The odometer showed with ~140,663 miles at the time of our visit.

The switches and controls all appear to be in nice condition, with surfaces free from fogging.

We noted no issues with any warning lights and the oil temp, fuel gauge, speedometer, rev counter, fuel gauge and voltage were all functioning without concern when starting up the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic Porsche steering wheel is in keeping with the rest of the interior - no major issues to report just a few signs of age to the trim.

The gear stick looks to be in great condition, and had no major wear that stood out.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

Engaging, predictable, and incredibly satisfying - a true drivers' car that still holds its own today.

Engine and Gearbox

Starting up, we noted no trouble with the engine firing up on the button. Out on the road, the Porsche performed without issue when running and driving. The car idled smoothly and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all.

We took the car out around some local roads with Mark to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting up and more detail in the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or other issues from the suspension when we were on the road, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling. Looking over the underside of the car during our visit, noted no observed issues and the car felt solid on the road.

The front brakes and pads were replaced in June 2025 and had no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey. These brought the car to a stop without a problem, and with the kind of stopping power you'd expect. The Porsche black brake callipers looked great here.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

The 944 S2 offers a beautifully balanced and confidence-inspiring driving experience, perfectly reflecting Porsche’s focus on precision engineering.

With its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and near-perfect weight distribution, the S2 feels composed and planted in every corner. The steering is sharp and communicative, giving the driver excellent feedback, while the chassis delivers impressive grip and stability.

Powered by a smooth and torquey 3.0L inline-four, the S2 provides strong, linear acceleration that suits both spirited driving and relaxed cruising. It’s a car that rewards driver input, feeling agile on twisty roads yet comfortable enough for longer journeys.

Electrics and Other

The Porsche features a Blaupunkt cassette stereo and equaliser amplifier.

Optional fitted upgrades include; Headlight washer, Sports seats, Auto heating and cruise control, Cloth door panels, Headlight adjustment and a Sunroof.

During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and are in good overall condition.

We weren't able to fully test all of the functions when visiting the car, although Mark told us everything was in working order.

History and Paperwork

This rare example comes to market with new discs, pads and clutch cylinder fitted in 2025 and a set of 20 historic stamps in its Porsche service booklet.

Other factory fitted options on the car include:

288 Headlight washer (lamp wash and wipe)
383 Sports seats (electronic operation to the front seats)
424 Auto heating control
454 Auto speed control
494 2 speakers on the rear shelf and amplifier system
526 Cloth door panels
605 Vertical headlight adjustment
650 Sunroof

The Porsche had new front discs, pads and brake sensors fitted in June 2025 where the clutch master and slave cylinder were also replaced. We cover off the rest of the sales invoices and receipts in the paperwork gallery section.

Please note, the personalised number plate is excluded from the final sale and will be reverted back to its original registration.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi, there was some corrosion addressed in Aug 2007 and Nov 2003. I am not concerned with that. But I am concerned that the MOT expires in 42 days, as there is clearly some corrosion showing on the outside of the sills now, can you confirm if the car will require welding prior to MOT or will you be putting a new MOT on the car before sale ? also i cannot see an invoice for the March 2022 MOT failure for excessive oil leak. please advise. thanks, Simon

Hi Simon, Thank you for your interest in my 944 S2; I’m happy to answer your questions…

I am more than happy to sell my car with a full 12 months MoT, which I’m arranging today. I want somebody else to enjoy this car as much as I have; therefore if this provides greater confidence… Regarding the oil leak marked as not excessive; I’m trying to track down the invoice from the garage where the fix was addressed. I believe it was an incorrectly fitted, fitment. I can also report that the car has been in my garage for a few months now; with no signs of any oil on the garage floor.

I hope that answers and provides reassurance that I’ve been open, honest and trustworthy a seller.

Hi Nick,
Thank you for your email and interest in my car.

Two weeks ago, I took the car to an independent Porsche specialist near to my home, where they replaced the battery, the breather pipe and adjusted the heat shield. At the same time, they checked all over, reporting no major issues or concerns. I had an oil and filter change in 2024, using fully synthetic oil, discs and pads last year.

Hi Jasond,

Thank you for your message, also the kind comments on my car. You’re right in that it is a fantastic looking car.

We firmly believe that this is an SE version as highlighted in a number of documentations, not least from Porsche direct citing the exact same. The SE was twofold in that it was the “run out” model with the colour coded bridge spoiler, coupled to the extra options added in the specification sheet.

jasond
jasond

Hi, slightly sceptical that this is an SE. There were 14 conversions undertaken by a UK based Porsche centre not the supplier of this car. All had 968 steering wheels etc, whilst i would expect the coil overs to have been replaced by now. There was also an SE decal running down the side. I’m sure there are a few other bits i gave missed. It looks a fantastic car.
