Introduction
Paul Wright
Combining effortless, high-speed performance with refined luxury – the ultimate evolution of Porsche’s V8 grand tourer.
Introduced in the late 1970s as Porsche’s vision of the future, the Porsche 928 marked a significant departure from the marque’s rear-engined roots. Originally developed as a potential successor to the legendary 911, the 928 aimed to combine the performance of a sports car with the refinement and comfort of a grand tourer – a bold move that showcased Porsche’s engineering ambition. With its sleek, aerodynamic design, distinctive pop-up headlights, and muscular stance, the 928 looked every bit the futuristic sports GT. Under the bonnet, it featured a front-mounted, water-cooled V8 engine paired with a rear transaxle for near-perfect weight distribution and balanced handling. This layout offered a driving experience that was smooth, powerful, and composed, ideal for high-speed touring as well as spirited drives.
The last evolution, in 1992, the 928 GTS offered a more powerful 5.4-litre V8 engine with 8 balance weights instead of 6 to enhance smoothness. This enabled a top speed of more than 170 mph. The GTS engine was smoother and more flexible than its predecessor while being quieter, smoother, and easier to drive. Changes to the chassis also included a wider rear track, larger front brakes, new-style alloy wheels, and updated bodywork with flared rear arches, a body-coloured rear spoiler, and cup-designed door mirrors.
In 2027, the Porsche 928 will celebrate its 50th birthday.
Coming fresh from ~26 years ownership, this car, Neville the owner tells us, was one of only 148 right-hand-drive models made for the final commemorative edition following the S4, and as the most powerful 928, it was given the GTS badge.
This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Neville the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I'M INTERESTEDAsk Questions
Hi, was this car for sale recently ? and sold ?
Apologies to those who have asked questions below. I had replied and only found out today after speaking to the site organisers that my replies where not received. I’ve just re typed the answers so will hear back if that has got through OK.
Hi, the pictures in the mechanical section that show the front and rear of the car, underneath both show wet oil staining. Is there any information on where this is coming from?
We had a new driveway 12 years ago which would have shown up if there has been any oil leaking. I have been speaking with Porsche and I am told it is normal to see this as the cam cover and sump gasket can weep which is why the mechanic checks it at service. That has been done which is why there is nothing on the drive.
Hi Neville, the last service was in 2023. It seems that at almost every service, there has been additional work needed or the garage has highlighted during their inspection. Have you had the car inspected to see what if any remedial work the car needs now, 3 years later please? Lovely looking car by the way !
Yes, it was fully inspected in February and any minor defects highlighted and attended to. even down to a fuse needing replacement and a cable needing greasing. Last year you will note the same applied and preventative maintenance was undertaken to preserve the longevity of the car keeping it in immaculate condition.
Hi Neville. I see the service history and the recent cambelt work. What other work has been done on the car. Particularly:* torque tube bearings
* transaxle work
* suspension bushes
* engine mounts
* air-conditioning overhaul
* radiator and cooling system
* steering rack
* electrical items (seat motors, pop-up lights, sunroof, climate control)
Details of work done, dates and costs would be very helpful. Are invoices available?
The car has a full service history and any work required has been done. I love the car and like everything to work as it should and do and will not compromise on cost. If it needed doing it was done.
Hi Neville, For the registration for a UK plate could you provide the needed IOM documentation? I note that to register for a UK plate it needs a current UK MOT, which n checking it has neither an MOT, last issued 21/03/2019 nor tax. Would you advise if different and if so the
MOT details?
Yes, I can help with all that and it will be set up to be done on the day of collection.
Yes, the car has maintained a UK MOT and with it it’s a very simple online exercise to transfer to the original reg. which I still have. I can help with all that and it will be set up to be done on the day of collection or before by arrangement.
