Introduction

Ashley Dawson
Professional Consigner

The Porsche 996 generation has rapidly become one of the most appreciated modern classics on the market, combining genuine everyday usability with the unmistakable character and driving feel of a traditional 911.

Presented here is a highly attractive 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera 4, finished in a superb colour combination: Zenith Blue (L3AX) with a black leather interior. Offering the confidence of four-wheel drive, a desirable factory sunroof, and timeless 996 styling, this example comes across as a very honest and usable modern classic.

Anthony has owned the car since 2017 as part of a wider collection, and it's now being offered for sale due to a reduction in storage space. The vehicle presents strongly overall and has clearly been enjoyed and maintained as a driver-focused example rather than a garage queen. It comes with a long MOT, valid until 24.03.2027.

This listing was written from information supplied by Ashley after meeting Anthony the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I’ve owned the car as part of my collection for some time now, but with storage becoming more limited it’s unfortunately time for somebody else to enjoy it.

Anthony has owned and cared for the Carrera 4 as a usable enthusiast car, preserving the things that matter most about a 911: strong mechanical condition, solid presentation, and a genuinely enjoyable driving experience. The car retains an honest feel throughout and offers a fantastic entry point into modern classic 911 ownership.

Anthony will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Finished in metallic Zenith Blue, which suits the clean lines of the 996 perfectly, this Carrera 4 presents extremely well overall.

Wheels and Tyres

The factory alloy wheels remain in very good condition and suit the car perfectly, with only light age-related wear visible upon close inspection.

The tyres appear in good overall condition.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The bodywork overall presents nicely, with the car exhibiting clean panel lines and strong proportions from every angle. The wide rear arches and subtle Carrera 4 styling cues give the car excellent road presence, while still maintaining the understated elegance expected from a 911 of this era.

There are some age related marks on the front bumper as you'll see in the pictures.

There is also some slight corrosion beginning to show around the inner edge of the bonnet area, visible in the photographs provided. Aside from this, the car presents honestly and strongly throughout.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The metallic Zenith Blue paintwork gives the car a fantastic appearance and works particularly well in natural light. The finish retains a strong shine overall, and highlights the iconic curves of the 996 beautifully.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The exterior trim, lights, and glass all appear complete and present well overall.

The car is fitted with the desirable factory electric sunroof, which remains fully operational along with the rest of the electrical equipment.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

Interior

Inside, the cabin offers exactly the sort of driver-focused environment expected from a late-1990s Porsche 911.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather interior presents extremely well overall, with the seats having previously been professionally revived and restored a few years ago. As a result, they still present beautifully today and remain one of the standout aspects of the interior.

The carpets, door cards, and general cabin trim all appear clean and well cared for, helping the car maintain a very smart overall presentation.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

Dashboard

The dashboard and centre console remain in very good condition overall, retaining the classic early 996 layout and analogue feel that enthusiasts continue to appreciate.

Controls and switchgear present nicely throughout.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The factory steering wheel remains in excellent condition and continues to offer the direct, mechanical feel that makes these cars so enjoyable to drive.

The Tiptronic gear selector operates exactly as expected and contributes to the car’s highly usable nature.

Mechanics

Mechanically, this Carrera 4 appears to be a very strong and well-sorted example.

Engine and Gearbox

The flat-six engine starts cleanly and runs very well, with no unwanted noises noted. The engine bay presents honestly and remains clean and tidy overall.

The Tiptronic gearbox operates smoothly and suits the relaxed GT nature of the Carrera 4 particularly well, while still allowing the driver to enjoy the performance and character expected from a naturally aspirated 911.

Suspension and Brakes

The car feels composed and planted on the road, benefiting from the reassurance of Porsche’s Carrera 4 four-wheel drive system.

Braking performance and general road manners appear strong overall.

The Drive

On the road, the car delivers the exact blend of usability and engagement that has made the 996 such a popular modern classic.

Comfortable enough for longer journeys yet still unmistakably a 911 from behind the wheel, this is a car that feels genuinely enjoyable to use regularly.

Electrics and Other

All electrical equipment is reported to be functioning correctly, including the factory sunroof.

Just the PASM light was noticed during our visit as you'll see in the On the Road video - this is not unusual when the car hasn't been used for a long time. We asked Tommy to disconnect the battery and reconnect it after some time and drive the car - he did this and confirmed no PASM / warning signs were noted during use.

History and Paperwork

This 1998 Carrera 4 is being offered as a highly usable and honest example of the increasingly desirable 996 generation Porsche 911.

Owned by Anthony as part of a wider collection, the car is now being sold due to a reduction in storage space. Combining strong mechanical condition, attractive presentation, and excellent usability, this Carrera 4 represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a genuinely enjoyable modern classic Porsche. It comes with a long MOT, valid until 24/03/2027.

The private plate is not included in the sale, the car will go back to its original S reg.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Anthony,
Couple of questions about the Porsche, all around common issues with the engine. Apologies if this has been answered with pictures of receipts, the picture details/lettering are a bit blurry on my phone. Has the IMS bearing been replaced, same question for the RMS and air oil separator. The engine sounds good on video, no signs of bore score, any smoke on startup ever?
Kind regards
Adam
