Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

The 996 offers a well-engineered and accessible route into 911 ownership, delivering a genuinely engaging and capable driving experience.

Practicality, reliability, and solid build quality are not typically associated with sports cars. However, for over 64 years, the Porsche 911 has become synonymous with thoughtful ergonomics, durability, and craftsmanship, making a compelling case as a sports car that delivers both excitement and everyday usability.

The 996 marked the first generation of water-cooled 911, quickly finding an enthusiastic audience. Not only did it reinforce the 911’s enduring appeal, but it also played a key role in Porsche’s commercial success at the time. Redesigned from the ground up, it featured a cleaner, more modern interior while retaining the iconic 911 silhouette. It also proved more robust, more cost-effective to maintain, and introduced a range of then state-of-the-art technologies.

This 2000 convertible is a rear-wheel-drive example, powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six engine producing close to 300 bhp. It comes to market following just under ~3 years of ownership with the our vendor and is finished in 'Arctic Silver Metallic' over a black leather interior.

The car is accompanied by an impressive history file, including 12 service stamps and a comprehensive folder of invoices dating back to new. It has an MOT valid until March 2027, was most recently serviced in March 2026, and is supplied with two keys.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Kris the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A hugely rewarding car to both drive and own, offering a level of involvement that keeps you coming back for more.

Purchased as a leisure car, Kris has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the 911. This well-maintained 996 in 'Arctic Silver' immediately stood out to him, with the 911 long being a personal dream car. Previously garaged by its former owner, it has continued to be stored indoors during his ownership.

More recently, the car has seen less use following a house move and the arrival of a new baby, and it is now being reluctantly offered for sale.

Kris will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

The 911’s silhouette remains timeless - an instantly recognisable shape that’s as iconic today as ever.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 10-spoke silver sport design wheels 18” alloy wheels are present on this example, finished with a silver rim and grey centres. The wheels appear to be in very good condition, with some very minor wear.

The wheels are fitted with Toyo Proxies R888 tyres, which also appear to be in good visual condition, dated 2018, with a good amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking on the outside walls.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The bodywork appears to be in great overall condition, with panel gaps aligning visually well around the car.

We’ve provided detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to review all media files to assess the condition for yourself.

Paint

Finished in 'Artic Silver', the paintwork presents with generally even colour and coverage across all panels.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in very good condition for the car’s age.

The window seals appear good and consistent with the overall condition of the car.

Door handles and window surrounds also present well.

Interior

Inside, you’re met with supportive sports seats and the unmistakable centrally mounted rev counter - a defining feature of the 911 driving experience.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather seats have retained their shape well over the years. There are some light creases as expected with use, reflecting the careful way in which the car has been maintained.

The door cards and carpets present similarly, showing consistent condition throughout.

For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look at the extensive media.

Dashboard

The dashboard shows no major damage or scuffs, and no warning lights were displayed during our visit.

The odometer read ~81,103 miles at the time of visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both the original leather steering wheel and the manual gear stick present in good condition, with minor wear marks to the gear stick.

For a closer look, check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

Mounted at the rear is a 3.4L flat-six engine, paired with a manual gearbox, delivering the pure and engaging feel that defines a classic 911.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.4-litre engine, producing ~300 BHP, is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold and it performed well on the road, pulling strongly, idling smoothly and running as expected.

Kris reports that the car starts from cold without issue and drives well, with the manual gearbox transferring the power smoothly to the rear wheels.

The IMS bearing was replaced in 2019 with a uprated LN Engineering Ceramic Bearing.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good condition, providing a composed ride on Swansea roads.

The brakes perform well, bringing the car to a stop confidently.

During our drive, it felt exactly as you would expect from a well-maintained sports car of this era.

The Drive

The 911 has long set the benchmark for sports cars, combining everyday usability with unmistakable rear-engined character and engineering integrity.

In Carrera form, the 3.4-litre flat-six produces around 300 BHP, delivered to the rear wheels. It offers strong performance alongside secure, confidence-inspiring handling - equally at home on a twisting B-road or cruising effortlessly on the motorway.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Drew reports that everything is functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car.

The car is fitted with an aftermarket Sony (XAV-3005DB) touch screen head unit and USB charger.

The car comes with a hard top.

History and Paperwork

Regularly maintained and offered after almost 3 years of ownership, the car has been well cared for, with its most recent service completed prior to sale.

This Porsche retains a pleasing sense of originality, complete with its 3.4-litre inline-six engine, 10-spoke silver sport design wheels, and attractive Silver colourway. The sale also includes the original spare toolkit, uprated radio, car cover and hard top.

Take a look at this history and paperwork media to see the previous MOT reports, servicing, and parts this Porsche has received over its life.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
