Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

A celebration of 40 years of evolution and passion, the 996 40th Anniversary edition is a rare and appreciating asset.

To celebrate Porsche's 40 years of the legendary 911, the company released the ’40 Jahre’ edition of their 996 models. Rather more than just a badge-engineering special, the car was notable for being fitted with several unique features, including a 25bhp power hike over the standard Carrera. In addition to the X51 power kit, it was fitted with the Turbo front end, Turbo radiators, limited slip differential, sport suspension and polished 5-spoke alloy wheels.

Finished in a gleaming GT Silver Metallic, a shade only previously seen on the Carrera GT, the dark grey natural leather interior complemented by front heated hard back sports seats, this car is number 1,072 out of 1,963 models produced and comes with a healthy service history, a recent invoice for over £11k, which includes a new IMS Bearing, brakes and pads and has an MOT to November 2023.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Michael the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The sleek and curvaceous lines of this amazing machine turns heads wherever it goes - how could you not love it.

Having the privilege of owning and driving this amazing machine, it leaves an indelible memory in my whole being. The roar of the Porsche engine, the very slick and effortless gear changes that takes your breath away with the acceleration.

Sadly Michael, after a decade of enjoyment with the car, is forced to sell it due to ongoing issues with his mobility - and now Michael would like someone new to love his car.

Michael said it just sits in his garage begging to be driven, it’s what it was made for.

Exterior

Dashingly svelte in its unique GT Silver finish, this 996 as to be expected, is solid throughout.

Wheels and Tyres

The fetching 18” Carrera II lightweight wheels are in very good condition, with just an odd minor mark.

The Bridgestone Potenza tyres are in good shape, all show legal tread.

Bodywork

The structure of the car appears to be in a healthy state, with no outstanding issues observed underneath or around the inner wings. The panelwork reflects its careful ownership, with no significant damage observed on the bodywork, with no discernable rust or dents.

All doors open and close with ease, although the rear gas strut to hold the engine lid up will need replacing. The bumpers are visually flush with the bodywork, with no issues noted with the rest of the panel flow or door gaps.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The GT Silver metallic finish is of a good standard with a decent lustre.

There are a handful of stone chips noted on the nose of the car, along with a light mark noted on the rear bumper. There is also a blemish on the off-side lower wheel arch and rear bumper. Some of the lower sections of the rear bumper reveal minor marks, but nothing too distracting.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

As expected, the windscreen has a few stone light chips but these are not flagged up as advisories on the MOT and do not impede visibility.

The trim, including the GT3-style side skirts, is in a good state with no outstanding damage.

The front headlamp lenses are good - the rear ones are good and intact too.

Interior

As neatly presented inside as it is outside, the full leather interior and '40 Jahre' embellishments remind you of its provenance.

Seats and Carpets

The leather sports seats are both in good condition, with no rips, and the driver's side is aligned to the expectations of a car of this age with some light creases and mild bolster wear.

The passenger seat has a slight mark on the bench, all commensurate with the car’s use.

The rear seat appears to have been hardly used.

The carpeting and mats are in good shape, all were dry, and the rear items in particular are in a very clean state. The luggage area carpets are similarly free of dampness.

Dashboard

The tops of the leather dashboard show light superficial marks but appear to be treatable. The facia, GT Silver centre console, switches and controls are in good shape, with no significant signs of wear. The dials are fully legible, with the aluminium trim rings on the instrument cluster adding a neat dimension to the pinnacle.

The door cards are clean, with no significant scuffs. The Alcantara roof-lining is good too. The car also retains its console plate bearing the car’s limited edition number. All functions, including the air-con and heated seats, are said to work by the owner.

The car also comes with a Bose sound pack, silver bezel surrounds and unique 911 sill plates.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in good condition and the gear lever as well as the unique hand brake lever are in good shape too.

Mechanics

Civil, yet potent, the 996 still delivers its power with confidence and poise.

Engine and Gearbox

The car starts up with no drama, the engine idling with no unwanted engine noises.

The dashboard lights remained off as the engine gradually warmed up.

The manual gearbox performs without any issues, selecting gears with ease, with a decent clutch biting point.

Suspension and Brakes

The car dealt with unlevel roads with no ill effects in terms of suspension knock or unbalanced ride, despite its firm ride.

The car has recently seen a substantial amount of work to its brake discs and pads, which naturally results in a near-flawless ability to allow the owner to slow and stop the car with no drama.

The Drive

Powered by a factory-boosted naturally aspirated 3.6-litre flat-six engine, known as the Powerkit the sports suspension is aided by electronic stability control, which elevates this version closer to the GT3 than any other Porsche of the era.

As to be expected in any 996, the driver experience is a lesson in both civility and ergonomics, but the urge within the car is only seconds away. The car drove smoothly, with no outstanding rattles or knocks.

The owner has not reported any oil pressure or engine temperature warnings.

Electrics and Other

The owner has kept the car as close to the original as possible, so is free of any specification upgrades, other than the IMS bearing kit.

The car retains all of its distinctive 40th-anniversary factory-fitted specifications.

History and Paperwork

The car has seen a positive routine of maintenance over the years, with a recent invoice from Tuthill Porsche for nearly £12,000.

The car comes with a folder of invoices, the most recent is a hefty bill for almost £12k, which was carried out by specialists Tuthill Porsche, who actioned a full inspection of the car, replaced its steering rack, coolant pipes, nearside radiator as well as fit a new IMS bearing. The car also received new brake discs and pads.

It is also presented with a healthy number of Porsche invoices and main dealer Porsche stamps up to 69,415 miles. There are subsequent invoices for servicing by a local trusted garage, which also fitted a new water pump, offside radiator and battery.

The car has an MOT to November 2023.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Michael,

The service history seems a bit vague from 2013, has the car been regularly serviced in your ownership
