Professional Consigner

The world's greatest sportscar - the 996 is becoming more desirable by the day, and this manual, facelift, top of the line 4S is the one to have.

The 996 911 replaced the 993 in '97 with a more curvaceous, spacious, and aerodynamic body, the car saw the introduction of a new rear water-cooled engine - This example is fitted with the larger 3.6-litre offering the driver 350bhp of naturally aspirated goodness to tap into.

Just four years later after its release, the new model 996.2 was launched. The newly designed headlights which were more similar to the turbo version car as opposed to the entry-level Boxster kept the diehard Porsche owners happy, and more importantly, revised steering, suspension and interior upgrades including a rear glass window in the convertible models.

Coming to market from 10 years ownership, this 911 only shows ~65,500 miles, finished in "Arctic Silver" over grey leather interior, and in cabriolet form, it's coming to market just in time for the fair weather.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I'm a big fan of high-performance cars just like any other petrolhead - this 996 4S really stood out to me and my partner.

Paul and his wife have enjoyed a decade of weekend motoring in this "Artic Silver" Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. Paul loves the power output from Porsche's naturally aspirated 3.6L, along with its raspy sports exhaust.

This example with the "Turbo Twist" wheels, and decent service history made it an easy choice for him when purchasing. Due to lack of use, and Paul himself mentioning himself "my age of 77 makes it harder to get in and out these days", he has decided to bring the car to market. Paul will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Vehicle Owner

Paul saved £4,320* when they
sold their Porsche with us.

  • We'll take the photos & create the listing.
  • We'll market it to our 62K buyers & online.

A design which is now maturing, the 4S benefits from the wide body 996 shape, but still that iconic silhouette.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with "Turbo Twist" Porsche wheels, they present in used condition and would benefit from a deep refurbishment, the front nearside wheel is showing signs of lacquer peel.

The 18” Bridgestone Potenza S001/S02A tyres all look to be in good condition, the front items are dated 2019. Take a look at the image gallery to see the detail.

The bodywork on the Porsche is in good condition. Walking around the car, the panel gaps all look to be matching as they should and as you would expect from a Porsche.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

The 'Arctic Silver' paintwork on this car looks good, the paintwork has fair lustre and the paint is even in colour and finish across the car. We did notice some minor stone chips and scratches you'd expect to come with age and mileage. The car really wants a deep detail to bring it up a level, a weekend job for an enthusiastic owner perhaps.

We did notice a small area of lacquer wear/micro blisters around the top of rear offside arch. The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks good and in line with the mileage. We didn't notice any discolouration. The window seals look good too and are in line with the rest of the condition of the car, along with the convertible roof.

The car comes with the factory hard top as pictured.

A classic and typical driver focused cabin from Porsche, with a touch of luxury from the leather interior.

Seats and Carpets

The "Graphite Grey" leather sports seats are fitted inside the cabin and both appear in great condition. There is some wear to the leather, as you might expect with the mileage, but no major damage to note.

The carpet, original mats and convertible roof lining also appear in good condition throughout.

The arm rest locking mechanism needs a little attention, Paul has included the new part with the car. Please take a look at the images and videos for a more detailed view.

The dashboard and dark burr maple centre console present in great order for their age and mileage. The switchgear presents in good condition with no reported issues from Paul.

The classic arrangement of Porsche dials are legible with no glass or binnacle damage, black backed on this example.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both are original items that look and feel in good condition in line with their age and mileage. The car comes with the Porsche sat-nav system, and Bose speakers as pictured.

One thing Paul has mentioned, the remote locking is not working, but operates all doors via the key in the door, mentioning he's been told this is typically microswitch issue. Take a look at the detailed video and photographic tours on the interior.

The 3.6L naturally aspirated water-cooled block delivers an incredible ~350BHP to all wheels.

Engine and Gearbox

The revised model saw the introduction of the enlarged 3.6L integrated dry-sump engine - it could hit 62MPH in ~5.1 seconds and would top out at 174MPH, impressive figures.

We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows the car out on the road and a view around the engine bay. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the very clean engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

Paul confirms that suspension and brakes work exactly as they should and, this being a Porsche, will be perfectly matched to the cars performance. Being a 4S, the car features the wider track and suspension/brake set-up that come with the bigger brother, the Turbo.

The Drive

Paul confirms the car is taught and responsive, driving exactly as it should.

On our short drive with Paul for the review, the video showed the car performed well, is comfortable and there are no squeaks or rattles we could hear, you won't need to turn the volume up very loud to hear the sports exhaust in action!

Electrics and Other

Paul advises that all lights, switches and on board computer electrics work as they should. A Bose in-car entertainment system is fitted including a CD multichanger.

History and Paperwork

UK RHD, Arctic Silver over Graphite Grey cabriolet with manual gearbox ready for a new custodian and the sunny weather ahead.

There is a record of 4 brake fluid changes and 11 service stamps in the maintenance/service book. The owner's manuals are present, along with the radio instructions and wallet.

Additional Options: XKS - Dark burr maple center air vent bracket, XLF - Sports exhaust system, XNW - Dark burr maple dashboard trim strip, XPX - Dark burr maple instrument surround, XJ4 - Leather-covered ignition lock surround, X54 - Stainless steel tailpipes, 440 - Roof antenna, 665, 666, 692 - 6-disc CD changer Porsche CDC-3
