Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

The 997 marked a step change in the 911 development path, Porsche moved back to the iconic headlamp design and considerably revised the interior.

The second generation of water-cooled 911's from Porsche, Type 997, took the model range back to a level that customers expected. From the outside and inside, it was a bit of a revolution in design. The mechanics however were an evolution of the outgoing 996 platform, the gradual development that has seen the 911 stay at the top of many a persons must have list.

This example is the Carrera 4, a 3.6L pushing out ~321BHP. With just 2 registered keepers and ~23,500 miles covered in the past 15 years, it's a low mileage example presented in excellent condition.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Martin the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've been around and worked on Porsches all my life, when a good one comes across by books it's hard to pass up.

Martin is a customer and friend of us here at Trade Classics and we've known him for over six years. Martin has worked with the Porsche marque all his life as he's a specialist mechanic - in his early career Martin worked for Porsche on their race engines and there's not much he doesn't know about any model of the brand.

He's always on the lookout for great examples, particularly from the modern water-cooled era. This 2 owner low mileage example belonged to a customer of his, Martin acquiring the car last year and storing the car professionally since. With just ~23,500 miles covered, you'll be hard pressed to find a Carrera 4 in similar condition. Martin will be happy to answer any question in the comments section below.

Exterior

The 997 was a step change back to the iconic 911 looks, those headlights have been instantly recognisable for decades now.

Wheels and Tyres

Optioned with 19" SportDesign wheels (407), they present in excellent condition having been recently refurbished. The wheels are fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tyres all round, all looking in excellent condition with the car having been stored professionally.

Bodywork

In line with the low mileage, the bodywork is in excellent condition on this Carrera 4. Optioned with sunroof, the 911 Carrera 4 is considered a narrow-body 997.

On our visit we didn't observe any dents or defects in the bodywork of the car, watch the video to see all the panel gaps and shut-lines across the car.

Paint

Finished in GT Silver (LM7Z), it's a modern colour that really suits this car. The paintwork is in great condition, even in colour and finish across all the panels.

The car is fitted with classic style protectors for the rear wheel arches, ensuring the paint has remained stone chip free. The only marks we found were on the underside of the front bumper on the offside, and a small mark on the lower front bumper nearside. Take a look at the images and video review to see the paintwork up close.

Glass and Trim

All looks in excellent condition, in line with the mileage and use on this low miles example. Some classic style rear wheel arch protective stickers have been fitted as pictured, and this Carrera 4 has had the rear badges removed for a cleaner look.

Interior

A move back to the high quality luxury materials that Porsche are known for, the interior on the 997 was a step-up from the previous generation.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in Ocean Blue coloured leather, with contrasting black carpets, this car features a full leather (FE) interior.

The seats are in very good condition, the wear present is in line with the mileage and show originality. View the images for a closer look.

Dashboard

Wrapped in leather, the dashboard gives the cabin that premium feel that was lacking in the 996. This car features dark backed instrument cluster, a very smart finish to the styling.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Optioned with the 3 spoke steering wheel with Tiptronic controls (432, 436), the steering wheel presents in good condition. The Tiptronic controls have a few small marks on them, the automatic gear selector looks in excellent unmarked condition.

Mechanics

A 3.6L flat-six produces ~321BHP, this delivered to all 4 wheels via the Tiptronic S gearbox.

Engine and Gearbox

The development of the 997 drivetrain was very much an evolution of the 996 platform. The Carrera 4 all wheel drive system sends between 5-40% of the power to the front wheels as needed, most of the time the power is still delivered through to the rear.

Watch the video to see the car start up with no issues, the Tiptronic S gearbox fitted on this example is also said to move through the gears smoothly.

Suspension and Brakes

Both the ride quality and stopping power for this 911 are said to be in fine fettle. The car has seen regularly maintenance, and then has simply been MOTd regularly while stored. You'll notice a small amount of surface corrosion on the discs, a bit of use and this will brush off.

The Drive

It's the classic 911 experience with the added benefit of better cornering grip. You still get that flat-six howl from the rear-engine set-up, but the PSM and 4 wheel drive system helps to deliver the power more effectively through the chassis.

Electrics and Other

This car is fitted with the Bose surround sound system and 4x CD changer (680, 692), the entertainment system again a step-up from the 996. Martin reports that everything on the car is working to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

An excellent example of the Porsche 911 (997), just two former keepers and ~23,500 miles covered, this Carrera 4 is ready to be driven again.

Coming with a service book full of OPC stamps, the history charting its life up to ~22,000 of use. After this, the car hasn't been used as much and has covered on average just 250 miles a year.

Presented in excellent condition, with the low ownership and mileage, it certainly makes it an attractive package if you're in the market for a 997 C4.

We've actioned checks on; Seller ID, V5C, HPi.

This is an auction on behalf of a trade seller and normal auction rules apply, i.e. there is no warranty, no return policy and bids are binding with more info in our terms and conditions. As you can see, we go to great lengths to represent the car as fully and as accurately as we can, so please take time to review the entire listing, images and videos and also ask any questions you may have in the 'Ask Owner' section before placing your bid.

Hi. Just looking through the paperwork for the car and would just ask why section 4 of the V5 documentation has been filled in. Could you explain please. Thank you.

Hi Rigerz, as per the details in the listing, Martin is a registered trader, hence why that section has been completed when he purchased the car. Best, Kulraj – Trade Classics
