Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner and Photographer

Unmistakable Porsche character, timeless design, performance, and presence in equal measure - all driven by the spine-tingling flat-six at its heart.

The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (997) represents the perfect fusion of classic 911 heritage and modern engineering. Building on the iconic design language of the 911, the 997 generation returned to a more refined, timeless aesthetic, with smoother lines, updated headlights, and a purposeful stance. The 4S model, in particular, stands out with its wider rear arches, all-wheel-drive system, and sports-tuned suspension, offering superior grip, poise, and confidence in all conditions.

Under the engine cover lies the legendary flat-six engine, delivering exhilarating performance and the unmistakable Porsche soundtrack. Every drive is a blend of precision, control, and engagement, capturing the essence of what has made the 911 a global automotive icon for decades.

Whether carving through country roads or enjoying a spirited drive on open roads, the Carrera 4S offers a rare combination of everyday usability and high-performance thrills, making it a highly sought-after model for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

This particular example comes from ~8 years ownership with servicing completed in November 2024 covering minor maintenance, spark plug replacements and drive belt check. The car is very well equipped and includes; factory wide body aero kit, full extended grey leather trim with heated memory adaptive seats, embossed headrests, Alcantara headlining and multi-function sports steering wheel. It comes with a current MOT, original drivers folio and two sets of keys.

The spec list continues with a summary of the equipment noted as, electric sunroof, sat-nav, air-con, Bose sound package, rear park assist and Porsche Switchable Sports exhaust system (PSE) with chrome tailpipes.

Take a look over the 997, where we cover in more detail what's on offer.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Garry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The perfect balance of usability and performance, every drive is made special thanks to the unforgettable flat-six soundtrack.

The current owner, Garry, had always wanted a Carrera, saying, "I'd been looking for a while since seeing the 997 4S reviewed on Top Gear when it was new in 2005, in my opinion apart from the 993, the 997 is the best looking Porsche ever. When I found one to buy, I knew I was going to love it".

With less time on his hands, the time has come to let the Porsche go, Garry said, "It's just not being used enough, and never has been! We have two young working Labradors that we could never take anywhere comfortably in this car, so we are looking to buy something to accommodate them. It has taken me 4 years to detached myself emotionally from it, but you never know, I might get one again!".

Should you have any questions about the car, Garry would be happy to answer these in the comments section below.

Exterior

With its flared arches, rear spoiler, and signature curves, the 997 is elegant, yet unmistakably aggressive with its confident road presence.

Wheels and Tyres

The car comes with 19" 5-spoke 'Carrera Classic' wheels with Porsche centre emblems, all appeared to be in excellent condition.

The front of the 4S is fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tyres with date codes from 2017 and a spec of 235/35. To the rear the car was again fitted with Pirelli P-Zero's from 2017 and a spec of 305/30.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Porsche and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the 997 showed in lovely condition overall. Looking over the exterior, the panel lines looking straight and well-aligned. Original build quality still shows as we looked over the car on our visit; both doors, bonnet and boot open and close without concern with the panels gaps all showing without concern.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Well presented in a smart finish of 'Cobalt Blue Metallic', the coverage is even across the car with no noted imperfections to colour.

We didn't note any real concerns with the paint apart from some really minor stone marks on the lower part of the front end, overall though the car looked stunning. The Porsche is finished with PPF (Paint Protection Film) on the rear quarters.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen, side windows, front and rear lights all appear in brilliant condition, and we could see no sign of scratching or chips on the glass.

Badges and emblems are present, correct and look very smart.

We didn't note any issues on the seals on the exterior and these areas showed to be in-line with the rest of the condition of the car. The interior cabin trim sections showed very well and meticulously cared for.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

Luxury meets driver-focused design in the 4S with leather trim, intuitive controls, and a clean, ergonomic layout for an engaging and comfortable drive.

Seats and Carpets

The electric memory and heated seats showed really well and looked very presentable finished in grey leather. It was clear looking over the interior, that the 997 has been well looked after.

Porsche carpets in the front of the cabin show in a great condition with the boot reflecting the same standard. Underneath the cabin carpets on the floor pans showed no concerning issues.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

Dashboard

The dark grey dash across the centre console all appears in fantastic shape with no issues to report. Classic 5 dial set up in the Porsche and white dials with orange needles looked excellent and were all functioning as expected. The odometer showed with ~37,859 miles at the time of our visit.

The dials, switches, and controls all appear to be in lovely condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching.

We noted no issues with any warning lights and the speedometer, rev counter, fuel gauge, oil temp, and digital interfaces and were all functioning without concern when starting up the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The galvano multi-function sports steering wheel is in keeping with the great quality of the rest of the interior - no issues to report.

The short shift gear selector also looks to be in smart condition.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

The 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six produces ~350 BHP, offering exhilarating acceleration and produces the classic 911 iconic soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

Delivering a 0-60 MPH time in ~4.8 seconds from factory, the Carrera 4S is an animal on the road, but refined enough for the driver to thoroughly enjoy the journey no matter the road conditions, thanks to its all-wheel drive setup.

Starting up, we noted no concerns and the Porsche performed without issue when running and out on the road. The car idled smoothly and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all. The 6-speed manual gearbox showed no concerns with shifting the 997 through to the gears.

We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting up and more detail in the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or other issues from the suspension when we were on the road, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling. Looking over the underside of the car during our visit, noted no observed issues.

The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car to a stop without a problem and with the kind of stopping power you'd expect.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

The Carrera 4S delivers a driving style that blends precision with confidence. Its all-wheel drive system provides superb grip, while the wider stance and refined suspension give it sharp handling and stability through corners.

Garry, the current owner, tells us more about his experience with the car, "It rides like it's on rails and feels so tight. I think it drives as good as new which always amazes me when I get out in it. For me, it's a true drivers car with a proper gearbox".

With responsive steering and the unmistakable flat-six soundtrack, the 4S offers a thrilling yet composed drive that feels equally at home on winding roads or the open motorway.

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and are in great condition.

Highlights of the Porsche spec include, factory wide body aero kit, full extended grey leather trim with heated memory adaptive seats, Bose sound package and Porsche Switchable Exhaust system (PSE) with chrome tailpipes.

The 4S also features, embossed headrests, Alcantara headlining, galvano multi-function sports steering wheel, short shifter, cruise control, electric sunroof, sat-nav, bluetooth function, top tinted windscreen, Porsche Stability Management (PCM), Xenon headlights, headlight washers, rear park assist, Carrera Classic wheels, Porsche over mats, red brake callipers and air-con.

We weren't able to fully test all of the functions when visiting the car, although Garry told us everything was in working order.

History and Paperwork

With servicing completed in November 2024 and fewer than ~2,000 miles travelled in the last ~5 years, the 997 is a well spec'd and rare example.

The current owner was focused on keeping the Porsche original and well kept, no major work has been done on the 4S other than maintaining it, and always with specialist garages in his ~8 and a half year ownership. It's clear looking over this example that it's been well kept over its years, with only minimal miles travelled, especially in recent years.

Servicing was last completed in November 2024 and covered off minor maintenance, spark plug replacements and drive belt check. The Carrera 4S comes with a current MOT valid until 26.11.2025.

The factory specification is significant on the Porsche and includes; factory wide body aero kit, full extended grey leather trim with heated memory adaptive seats, embossed headrests, Alcantara headlining, galvano multi-function sports steering wheel, short shifter, cruise control, electric sunroof, sat-nav, Bose sound package and bluetooth function.

Also included is, a top tinted windscreen, Porsche Stability Management (PCM), Xenon headlights, headlight washers, rear park assist, Carrera Classic wheels, Porsche over mats, red brake callipers, air-con and Porsche Switchable Exhaust system (PSE) with chrome tailpipes.

We cover the history of the Porsche in our paperwork gallery. Take a look over the previous servicing records and MOT certificates to see more behind the Carrera. The 997 is finished with two sets of keys, Porsche folio and Porsche drivers' manual.

The number plate "500 DRY" is not included in the sale.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Thanks Gary, it does. In 2016 I see its had springs and some wheel spacers. Was the car lowered or where stock springs used?

Hi Gary, Is there any history prior to 2010? I’ve read the borescope report and conscious of your limited miles in recent years. What has the oil usage been like between services? Thx Dave

Thanks Garry. Apols for what looks like a stupid question. It didn’t show me all the history until I created an account. I can see it now.
