Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner and Photographer

Iconic design with open-top exhilaration - the 997 brings rapid performance, everyday usability, and the thrill of a true drivers' car.

The Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet (997) represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of the 911, blending a return to classic styling cues with a new level of modern performance and refinement.

The 997 generation reintroduced the iconic round headlights, paired with a wider, more purposeful stance that perfectly balances heritage with contemporary design.

At its heart lies a 3.8-litre flat-six, delivering strong, responsive performance with a distinctive Porsche soundtrack. Power is smooth and immediate, while the chassis offers exceptional balance and precision, giving the driver confidence whether on twisting roads or open highways. It’s a car that feels equally rewarding when pushed hard or enjoyed at a more relaxed pace.

As a cabriolet, it adds another dimension to the experience. With the powered roof lowered, the connection to the car, and the road, becomes even more immersive, enhancing every drive with a sense of occasion.

Coming to market after just over 10 years with our vendor, the Porsche features upgraded sports alloy wheels, sports suspension and exhaust, extended triple black leather and boasts 14 service stamps, with 10 being main dealer, in its service booklet, it comes with a current MOT valid until 05.04.2027.

Refined yet engaging, practical yet thrilling, the 997 Carrera S Cabriolet perfectly captures the essence of the modern 911. Finished with a 6-speed manual gearbox - this makes for a real drivers sports car that never loses its sense of excitement.

This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The perfect machine - sharp performance, timeless 911 styling, and the pure thrill of driving with the roof down.

Paul, the current owner, is a passionate Porsche enthusiast with a strong appreciation for performance cars, he says, “I’ve always had a real connection with the brand and have had a 911 in the garage in one form or another through the years. When I found this car, I went to see it straight away and knew I had to take it on due to its condition and the way it drove".

A keen purist, Paul has focused on preserving the car’s factory character, he said, “I wanted to keep it as original as possible so I've not had any modifications completed. The open top driving experience is brilliant and it's just awesome in the warmer months, plus, with the manual gearbox, it's a real drivers' car".

For his decision to part with the car, Paul says, “It’s a difficult one to let go of, but as a sports car fan, there’s always another exciting car on the horizon. I can’t keep them all. I’ll miss it, but I know the next owner will enjoy it just as much".

Paul will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Sleek lines, wide stance, and elegant soft-top creating a look that’s both athletic and effortlessly sophisticated.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with 19" upgraded Carrera Sport-Spoke alloy wheels. The Porsche emblems present really well across all four corners of the car. There were very minor signs of kerb marks to the wheel edges but nothing too serious.

The front and rear of the 911 is fitted with Michelin tyres. To the front, there is a spec of 235/35, date coded from 2024, and to the rear, 295/30 date coded from 2015.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The car stands level, shut lines look good and we could see no visible distortion to the panels. Both doors, boot, and bonnet open and close well, exactly as you would expect from Porsche build quality.

The bodywork of the 911 showed in lovely overall condition and we found no dings or major areas of concern when looking over the car.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The paint coat shows a good level of coverage with the triple black finish showing the car off well. If we were being picky, a good level of polishing would bring out some of the original shine.

There are a handful of minor stone chips, mostly on the front of the car and the front splitter. There was also a note of paint wear to the rear bumper, but overall, nothing overly concerning.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The side windows and rear screen show in great condition, and we could see no signs of scratching on the glass. There was a stone chip noted to the front windscreen, although didn't appear to block the drivers visibility.

Front and rear lights all appear without damage but would benefit from a polish over to bring back some of the clarity.

Badges and emblems are present and look smart.

We didn't note any major issues on the seals on the exterior, although there was some slight wear to the soft top edge where the trim section retracts into the rear.

The interior cabin trim sections showed with minor wear on the centre storage and surrounding area.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our review videos, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

image

Interior

Classic Porsche design meets modern refinement - driver-focused, beautifully built, and an unmistakably sporty feel.

Seats and Carpets

Both front seats are finished in full black leather with Porsche crests in the headrests. Overall, these show in good condition - there were signs of creasing to the leather on the seats and a few marks mainly on the driver's side bolster sections of the seats, but nothing out of the ordinary given its age.

The rear section shows very little signs of use although does show some slight marks to the drivers side seat base.

Carpet sections showed in great condition through the interior. Equally in the front boot, this area showed no concerns.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

The black dash across the centre console all appears in excellent shape, no issues and no concerns here.

The classic 5 dial set up in the Porsche finished with white clocks looked excellent too, and these were all functioning as expected. The odometer showed with ~98,335 miles at the time of our visit.

The switches and controls all appear to be in lovely condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching.

We noted no issues with any warning lights on the road, and the oil temp, speedometer, rev counter and fuel gauge were all functioning without concern when starting up the car.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A classic Porsche 3-spoke steering wheel finished in matching black leather with silver accents, sits at the hands of the driver. This is in good condition and has maintained its looks as well as the rest of the interior.

The gear stick also shows the same levels of quality and finish, both sections are straight forward in design and present well with minor levels of wear noted.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

The 3.8-litre flat-six delivers a crisp throttle response, soaring soundtrack, and effortless performance.

Engine and Gearbox

Perfectly capturing the spirit of Porsche, the 997 performs very nicely on the road handling performance and power in equal measures.

Starting the car from cold, we noted no concerns. The Porsche idled smoothly and engine bay showed well, with its 3.8-litre engine easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all. The sports exhaust sounded great once fired up.

We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. On the drive, we ran through the motions and got an overview from Paul's perspective on how the car performs.

Take a look over the video for yourselves to hear the 997 start up from cold and take in the lovely sounds of the engine and exhaust system.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or issues from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car to a stop without a problem and with the kind of stopping power you'd expect.

Overall the car performed as to be expected with no observed issues.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

image

The Drive

The 911 Carrera S delivers a driving experience that’s both sharp and refined, blending precise steering, strong performance, and everyday usability with ease.

The naturally aspirated flat-six provides smooth, responsive power, while the chassis offers the balance and all the confidence you’d expect from a 997.

With the roof down, it becomes even more immersive - combining open-air freedom with that unmistakable Porsche soundtrack. It’s a car that feels just as at home on a spirited back road as it does cruising, making every drive feel special.

image

Electrics and Other

During our time with the car we noticed no electrical faults. All dashboard lights turned off when out on the road as expected, and all dials and gauges were functioning without issue.

The 997 is fitted with a powered soft top, extended leather spec, Porsche crests in the front seats and metal upgraded steering wheel. Additional features include sports spoke alloys, sports exhaust, sports suspension, electronic spoiler and air con.

Paul let us know that he's had no issues with the electrical elements on the car, and that everything should be working correctly to the best of his knowledge.

image

History and Paperwork

With a major service completed in April 2026, 14 service stamps and previous suspension works completed, the 997 is well set for many more miles ahead.

The Porsche has recently had a major service MOT completed and had its coolant pipes replaced in April costing over ~£1,600.

Front tyres were replaced in April 2025, along with replacement bonnet struts and a new coolant cap. Minor servicing was completed in April 2024. The offside rear hydraulic arm was changed in May 2023 and the rear suspension springs were replaced in 2022. Front springs and suspension struts were changed in 2021.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Paul I couldn’t see the information about the bore score results, and has it had a new clutch in your ownership,it’s probably there in front of me ,so apologies if I didn’t see it,thanks Steve

Regarding the engine health, many of us are interested in the bore scoring status. Does the service history include an invoice specifically for a boroscope inspection? The letter provided is quite general, so I’m looking to confirm if the cylinders were internaly inspected to rule out scoring, or if the letter just refers to an external/auditory ‘health check’. Thanks!

Hi Paul
In terms of the bore score report – can you let me know when this was done please and also whether the bores were actually ‘scoped’ to get a visual representation/confirmation of any scoring.

It’s hard to see clearly from the ‘cold start’ video but it looks like there is some blue smoke at start up – can you confirm whether or not this is the case please?

Kind regards

Thank you

Peter
