Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Editor and Photographer

Engaging, involving and quick - the 997 C4S always feels like an event to drive.

Released in 2004, the sixth generation of the Porsche 911 claimed a convincing stake as being the ultimate drivers' car. The 997 upgrade over the previous models goes deeper than the appealing facelift; subtle changes, such as aesthetic tweaks to the cabin and improved equipment, make it a better choice for day-to-day driving. In Carrera S form, a larger 3.8-litre engine, along with lowered suspension, upgraded braking system and sports exhaust gave it an improved driving experience, which, combined with its all-wheel-drive, placed it as all the 911 you'll ever need.

With 355 bhp and thunderous torque on tap, the Carrera 4S supports that statement, poised on the move, the Porsche Active Suspension Management dampers and engaging hydraulic steering and phenomenal grip provided all the thrills with no spills, thanks to its blend of tech, performance and reliability. An easy car to bond with, its practicality, thoughtful cabin design and comfort make it a no-brainer to use as a daily driver.

This clean 2006 manual transmission 911 Carrera 4S is finished in silver with a sea blue leather interior, and has seen a recent spend of £9,000 over the last two years. Presented with a modest reserve, it is a temptingly accessible option for those wanting to experience the all-wheel driver version of the 997. In need of a few cosmetics and a detailed engine analysis, it comes with two keys, an MOT until April 2026 and was last serviced in 2024

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Danny the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The quality, performance and sheer number of specialists makes the 911 a wise choice.

Danny has an eye for solid and appealing cars, and often seeks out examples that have seen healthy spending or a low number of owners.

Honestly presented, this 911 has not been inspected for bore scoring — something that can be a consideration with all 997s — but it has enjoyed plenty of recent mechanical attention over the last two years including to the IMS bearing.

Danny will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Sitting pretty with multi-spoke 19" alloys and side graphics, the car is smartly presented.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19-inch "Carrera Sport" wheels are finished in gun metal and are smartly finished and free of road wear.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres, with the front showing a spec of 235/35 and 305/30 to the rear. The front pair is coded from 2021, and the rear tyres date from 2023. All have even tread, with signs of wear noted on the outer edge shoulders of the rears.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Porsche and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

The exterior presents positively, the panels are flush to the body with even shut lines. The doors open and close with ease, but the driver-side glass drop is not operational. The front luggage lid struts are weak, but we believe a pair of replacement items are in the car.

There is a minor dent on the nearside rear wing, but it could easily be rectified by a specialist. Both rear arch lips have seen repairs, and there are small dabs of corrosion around both rear wings, generally around the wheel arch.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The silver metallic paint finish has a decent consistency across the car and good lustre. There are a few light marks across the body, and there are some paint chips, which are mainly close to the wheel areas and nearside sill; none appear to have penetrated beyond the top coat. There are bigger exposed chips close to the offside door well.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The lights and lenses are in good shape, with no issues noted on the glass or seals.

The trim is in good shape, but there is also a little evidence of paint overspray seen on the offside side glass rubbers.

The bumpers are flush to the body, and the front bumper has road wear chips, with a few minor marks present.

Interior

The high levels of quality materials ensure that this example still looks fresh.

Seats and Carpets

The heated sea blue leather sports seats are in good shape, with just minor creasing.

There are a few indentations on the rear seats.

The carpets and mats are clean and dry.

Dashboard

The leather dashboard is in good shape, showing a few minor marks on the glovebox and signs of age noted on the lower centre console. The switches are in line with the age of the car, and all are said to function as they should. The dials are legible, and the main controls are cleanly presented.

The headlining is clean and the door cards are decent, with a few marks noted on some of the cabin trim.

The luggage area is tidy.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The three-soke multi-function steering wheel has a few marks on the rim, but is in good shape.

The gear lever shows some wear, and its cap will need replacing.

Mechanics

It has seen extensive spending over the last two years, and drives beautifully.

Engine and Gearbox

The car starts up without hesitation, and all warning lights remain off as the engine idles smoothly. We noted a slight puff of smoke when we asked for a blip of the accelerator, but the smoke eased off when released.

The engine presents well and has recently been serviced. Earlier this year, it also received £8,300 worth of attention from Porsche specialist Tech9, including new coolant pipes, heat exchangers, a coil pack and attention to the IMS bearing. A bore score test has not been conducted.

The six-speed manual gearbox shifts gears smoothly with no reported issues with the clutch, which was replaced early in 2025.

Suspension and Brakes

The car's roadholding was positive, with no significant thuds heard from the wheels at low speeds.

The suspension was firm but absorbed the road without any reported issues.

The front anti-roll bar bushes and drive shaft boots were replaced in late 2024.

The brakes operate without any drama, stopping the car with no shakes or vibrations.

The front pads and discs were replaced late in 2024.

The Drive

The 3.8-litre engine provides a useful blend of explosive power with refinement, the confident traction of the 4-wheel drive system adds reassurance to the grip and handling, with the adaptive suspension allowing added comfort once you've had your fix of sports mode. The car pulls smoothly free of any hesitation, the C4S drives with a pleasing balance, with a surefooted grip and plenty of usable power.

The steering is demonstrated to offer a perfect feel of the road and was notably free from wobbles. The test drive was kept to a sensible 40 mph, but the occasional prod of the gas revealed a great-sounding exhaust rasp, which adds to the exhilaration of driving the car.

Electrics and Other

The car has been fitted with an upgraded Kenwood AirPlay head unit - the original will come with the sale.

The system is connected to a high end Bose sound package.

The sunroof operates without any issues.

History and Paperwork

The Porsche has been recently serviced and has seen an extensive amount of work on the engine and running gear.

First registered in March 2006, it comes with evidence of recent spending via Tech9 on the engine, brakes, suspension and electrics, totalling £9,000. An additional recent invoice for servicing and front brake work is also amongst the folder.

The car comes with its owner's wallet, with an almost complete set of booklets and two keys. It has an MOT until April 2006, and it was serviced late last year. The number plate will be sold with the car.
