Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

The combination of sensible ergonomics, power, quality and style is literally all one needs in a sports car.

Evolution is the secret to the Porsche 911’s success. The ability to include the latest technology and ever-increasing levels of performance has kept the model on top of its game without having to revert to retro sentimentality as its main selling point. The fact that it has stuck to its rear engine principles yet re-invent the exceptions of what defines a sports car is made even more astonishing by the levels of quality, practicality and durability in every single one of the 911s produced since 1963. This first-gen 2006 997 Series Carrera S uses the more powerful ~350BHP 3.8-litre engine mated up to a six-speed manual transmission. The Carrera S was first released in 2005 and featured active suspension management, 19” wheels, an upgraded braking system as well a series of elegant design features to complement the near-perfect driving experience.

This car comes to market from 6 years ownership, ~48,700 miles on the clock which is definitely erring on the low side for this generation of 911, and a truly immaculate presentation. Just 4 former keepers recorded, this example in "Seal Grey" over grey leather interior comes with some nice options such as white backed dials on the dash and upgrades to the lights and exhaust system.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The car drives perfectly, smooth clean performance and a sound you will fall in love with.

Something of life long dream, Paul has always admired the lines and performance of the 911 models. A genuine fan of driving, he has owned several notable cars over the years but states that his experiences with Porsche have left a huge impression on him. He's owned this car for ~6 years, having previously owned 2 other 997's.

Used for occasional dry weekend drives, the car's lack of recent use is the main reason to sell his pride and joy, and also that he is formulating a plan of owning a GT3 when the opportunity arises. Paul will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

You'll not be disappointed by the visual condition of this well-kept car

Wheels and Tyres

The 19" 5-spoke alloys are in excellent condition, even the bolts look good. This design of wheel show off the braking system the Carrera S came with, the calipers painted red on this example.

All the wheels are completed by a set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres which were placed on the car less than 5 years ago. All are in good shape with plenty of tread.

Bodywork

Structurally solid, with a near-perfect exterior, the car bears the hallmarks of being well looked after over the years. No issues were noted on the panelwork, with a factory finish panel fit, perfectly opening and closing doors and no evidence of bodywork blemishes.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The finish of the paintwork is another pleasing aspect of the presentation of the car. The light doesn't capture any blemishes, with very little in terms of age other than the occasional minor stone chip when looking very hard and a little paint blemish on the driver's door edge. The lustre is excellent, with no swirls, mismatched hues or evidence of outdoor storage.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in excellent shape with good seals. There are no outstanding observations of damage or wear to any of the exterior jewellery.

The car has been fitted with aftermarket LED rear and front bumper daylight running lights, a smart choice, all of which are in excellent shape with no reported issues with their function. Similarly the trim is intact with no headaches in terms of fitment or condition.

Interior

With the quality of materials still evident, the cabin has been extremely well cared for and belies the age of the car.

Seats and Carpets

The leather seating has lasted extremely well, with not much in terms of wear to mention at all, this is a well cared for car. The stitching looks perfect and the seats retain their firmness.

The carpets are in excellent shape throughout, with no evidence of dampness. The car comes with a set of mats, other than a little discoluration on the drivers item, they're in a good state.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in excellent order, optioned with white backed dials, with the condition of the plastics and leather helping to reinforce the brands reputation for rock solid quality.

There are only a handful of very minor age related wear noted in the usual places such as the key fob but you'd be hard pushed to guess the cars age judging by the cabin presentation. All of the controls, including the air-conditioning function, and importantly don't show the typical wear that can plague this generation.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

In keeping with the whole ambiance of the cabins high level of upkeep and care, the steering wheel and gear lever are also clean and well presented, and again, you'd be hard pressed to guess the mileage or age of the car based on the excellent condition.

Mechanics

Useable and approachable, this Carrera S has the versatility for everyday as well as special journeys.

Engine and Gearbox

The car fires up immediately with no issues being flagged up on the dashboard. The engine tone is even and the car idles without any issues or spluttering. As the engine ran, no issues were noted in terms of the exhaust, engine temperature or oil pressure. The physical condition of the engine is excellent, suggesting that it has seen regular cleaning to go along with the positive maintenance.

The gearbox was proven to function perfectly, with slick changes and a well-weighted clutch. The opportunity to work through the ratios was limited during the test drive, but it is said to power through the gears without issues. The soundtrack from the aftermarket exhaust and induction kit was not as intrusive under normal driving as expected, and the car is sold with the original stock induction kit should the new owner wish to revert back.

Suspension and Brakes

The physical condition of the suspension and brakes do not suggest any form of neglect, the brakes have seen plenty of attention over the last 3 years and operate without any issues - they are astonishingly effective. The steering was free of play or knocking, with the firm suspension free of thuds or unwanted noises.

The Drive

Very few cars offer the same driving experience as a 911, yet in 997 form, the balance of the car's ride is perfectly poised to allow the driver to be in complete control of the handling.

Paul takes precautions prior to driving the car, often leaving it to run for a few minutes before driving, which offers a clue to how well pampered this example is. A leisurely drive along the undulated and uneven roads of the New Forest didn't pose any issue to the car, with the steering and braking all coping without any drama. Used only in the warmer months of the year, stored in the colder/damper ones, and never in the rain, the care is clear to see.

Electrics and Other

The car has a handful of tasteful modifications, which cover the improved breathing of the car. The exhaust was sourced from Design 911 UK at the cost of over £2,000 pounds, along with a carbon fibre induction kit, which could be removed by the new owner and replaced with the supplied original. As mentioned prior, the car also features upgrade rear lights and LED daytime running lights to the front.

History and Paperwork

In desirable coupe form, this UK RHD Carrera S with manual gearbox presents in excellent condition, just 4 former keepers and a modest ~47,800 miles recorded.

As to be expected on a car with this level of finishing, it comes with a solid service history, including two Porsche health checks, and was most recently had a major service just over ~1,000 miles ago. Most of the invoices that come with the car pertain to general maintenance and upgrades, including an upgraded radiator kit, a new actuator, an alarm module, wheel alignment work, a DesignTek exhaust stainless-steel exhaust system and work on the air conditioning. More recently, it has seen all round brake discs and pads and a carbon fibre induction kit. The original air-box will come with the car too.

Please note, the private registration "P25 ULM" will not be sold with the car, the registration will be returned to an age appropriate number.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Any chance of some clarification on the IMS bearing and borescope questions below please?

Hi there, has the vehicle ever been bore scoped? Also, I believe there is an IMS bearing upgrade that a lot of early 911 have replaced. Has this been carried out looked at.
Cheers
