Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

With over 50 years history behind the Porsche 911, the 997.2 evolved creating one of the best iterations of the model to date.

The Porsche 911 (997) was manufactured between 2004 and 2013. In 2009 Porsche updated the 997 line-ups, introducing styling changes and a revised engine. These new models were faster, lighter and more fuel-efficient. On launch, the 997.2 was an instant hit among fans and motoring press worldwide. Even Jeremy Clarkson noted the 997 will "make love to your fingertips and stir your soul", high praise indeed!

This 997.2 Carrera S is a refined modern classic presented in the optional colour of "GT Silver Metallic", with a smart black leather interior, and comes to market with an excellent service history. It has been in current ownership for ~3.5 years, and had its most recent service in April this year (2022).

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Barry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Once you have had a 911 you seem to always want another, this is my 3rd and the best of them all.

Barry has owned this beautiful C2S (997.2) for over three years. No stranger to the marque and model, especially the 997 having owned three others, he openly admits these are addictive. He's kept the car serviced by his local sports car garage, and in his ownership has covered ~10,000 miles.

At this moment in time, he feels it’s time to part with the 997.2 due to a lack of more recent use, he also says at some point in the future, he will probably end up owning another one! Please feel free to ask Barry any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

We all know and love that iconic silhouette - the 911 shape has been modernised but never moves too far from its roots.

Wheels and Tyres

This car is optioned with the 19" Carrera Classic wheels. Overall, the wheels are in very good condition, there is a small amount of corrosion on some of the spokes on the front wheel, but nothing your local wheel refurbisher couldn’t take care of.

Michelin tyres are fitted to each corner of the 997.2. These do have some wear, and an advisory on the most recent MOT in July on the rear tyres. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

What a shape! Looking around the Porsche, the panels look to align as they should; everything has an equal and matching gap, and there are no dings or dents to point out. From a corrosion perspective, the bodywork looked clean and free from any signs.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The colour choice for the Carrera S was "GT Silver Metallic", a fantastic option if we do say so ourselves. The front bumper has had some stone chips addressed in September 2020, along with a full body machine polish. There are no noticeable scuffs or scratches to mention, and everything looks in good order, just the nearside rear bumper shows a slightly darker shade as captured in the photos.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition with no noticeable scratches spotted. The window seals are in good order, and both windows drop down as they should when you open the door.

The headlights are in good condition with no apparent chips to the clear lenses, which are also free from any cloudiness and the rear light clusters are free from damage.

Interior

A much more modern feel and look over its predecessor the 996, this model was a significant step up from Porsche.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in black leather with a perforated centre sections, the seats are in very good condition. There is some very light creasing, but it has to be said this is minimal.

The carpets are in good order and have a set of factory-fit mats installed front and rear to protect them from unnecessary wear. The frunk is clean and tidy, and the spare wheel and warning triangle are present. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition with no apparent damage to the surface. The instruments are working correctly, and no warning lights are displayed when the engine is running. The odometer shows a reading of ~47,552 miles.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel has some light shining to the rim in keeping with the mileage. The gearstick is in good condition, with just a few light scratches to the top. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

3.8 litres - you only have to hear it for a split second to instantly recognise the compelling sound of the flat-six.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.8 fires up with the flick of the key and has no signs of any smoke when cold, as you can see in our cold start video. The engine sounds as you would expect, with no untoward noises. This being a 2nd generation car, or 997.2 as it's known, the bore score issues that the 1st generation suffered were rectified at factory making it a much more reliable engine.

This particular model has the more desirable six-speed gearbox. The gear change is precise, and the car pulls strongly through the entire range. Watch the "On The Road" video to see the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

Out in the Porsche, the suspension is firm without being too harsh. The handling is superb, as expected from a sports car (especially a 911). Worth noting also that the underside has had anti-corrosion protection applied in the past to help with longevity.

The brake calipers are finished in guards red from the factory, with drilled discs. These all look to be in good condition, with very little lip to the edge. Barry reports the car comes to a stop in a straight line with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

It’s immense! The 997.2 is a great car to be in as a driver or passenger. The sound of the 3.8 flat-six is something else, and the Porsche delivers an amazing driving experience.

Electrics and Other

The Carrera 2S comes with Porsche Communication Management (PCM). There is also air conditioning which was regassed in 2019. The switchgear has no signs of excessive wear, and Barry says everything is working as it should.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

With a well stamped service book - the 2009 Porsche Carrera 2S has been well looked after, comes to market from ~3.5 year ownership and was most recently service in April 2022.

Maintenance is key to Porsche 911 ownership and for the mileage covered, the 997.2 has received more services than required, the most recent being a minor oil service on 26th April 2022 at 46,287 miles. The owner's manuals are present and complete with the Porsche folder, along with some invoices for work carried out and previous MOT certificates. With just three previous keepers noted on the V5, this is a fantastic example 911 Carrera S coming to the market, but the car suffered a Cat D insurance write-off in January of 2017, the car requiring a new front wing, headlight and bumper work. When Barry bought the car he did see pictures of this superficial damage, but wasn't able to obtain them from the dealer he purchased through.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle - Category D insurance loss recorded in January 2017.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Barry. From the images I notice that the coolant level is below the minimum mark. Has any of the coolant pipework been replaced, do you know? Thanks.

Hi Barry. Just a question on the insurance write-off in 2017. Do you know if the new front wing, headlight and bumper was all genuine Porsche parts and what the value of the work was?
