Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

The Carrera S more than lives up to the 911 legend, and the 997.2 got rid of the Gen 1 issues.

The evolution of Porsche’s iconic 911 can be measured in its increasing adaptability and demands for the modern driver. The design cues, such as the contoured graceful outline, the classic circular binnacle dials and of course the charismatic rear engine set up are only matched by the precision of detailing and engineering. There are not many cars that could offer such a complete driving experience, successfully combining comfort with handling balance. The Carrera S is often considered as the best all-rounder in the 997 range, in that it offers supercar performance with usability - but the 997 Carrera is no pushover, you’ll definitely have fun trying to master it.

Coming to market after ~1 year and 7 months ownership, this cleanly-presented facelift "Aqua-blue metallic" Carrera S is powered by the new generation of 3.8-litre direct injection flat-six, producing a potent ~386BHP. Fitted with a manual six-speed gearbox, this car has seen an almost yearly servicing schedule and sold with an MOT to August 2023.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Chun kit the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The 911 Carrera S (997.2) is a very usable high-performance car, I've loved every minute!

Chun Kit praised his experiences with the 997, thanks to its ease of driving with style and comfort. Used mainly as a leisure car, he has decided to sell it as his wife finds the manual gearbox, despite its seamless operation, a little laboured to use and would prefer an automatic.

He's owned the car for just over a year and a half, and in that time actioned an oil service with a friend too. He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

In remarkably fresh condition, this 911 still turns heads with the subtle Gen 2 updates to the styling.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the factory 19" SportDesign (code 407) alloy wheels, they present in good order, with minor signs of age and use but no unsightly blemishes.

All four tyres are 2021 items and show a very good amount of tread, but the off-side rear tyre does have a sidewall puncture repair.

Bodywork

The structure of the car appears to be solid throughout, with no discernable damage or corrosion we could spot. The underside, inner wings and suspension mounts look healthy. The panel fit is decent, with no issues in terms of the way the doors open and close, all showing positive signs of even shut lines. The slightest hint of wear was noted at the very bottom of the inner arches.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Aqua-blue metallic" paint (LM5R) finish has an even coverage with a good colour match. There are light signs of typical age-related wear, with a handful of minor scuffs, and light chips on the passenger door edges but nothing that distracts.

The paint lustre is generally good, with some signs of swirling showing up in the sunlight but nothing that a detailer couldn't resolve. The nose of the car is free from significant paint chips or road wear, which is impressive given the mileage the car has covered.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

There were no notable issues in regard to the glass on the car, all appearing to be free of damage. Their rubber seals look good too. The body trim, lights and badges are all in decent shape too, being a 997.2 this car has the updated lights both front and back.

Interior

Simple and uncluttered, the cabin combines restraint with style and was a step-up from the 996.

Seats and Carpets

This car has been optioned with the fully adjustable 12-way electric seats, with heating function. The leather seats have lasted well, with no significant blemishes, other than the mildest of wear noted on the driver's seat. They're all free of damage.

The carpets and mats are well-kept with very little wear noted. All, including the luggage carpet, are bone dry.

Dashboard

The leather facia displays well, with no outstanding marks or signs of damage. Some of the plastics show a little more in terms of age, with the lower section around the driver's footwell and the light switch area reflecting the age of the car. That said, it still stands up as a well-looked-after cabin given the mileage.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in decent order, with no distracting damage. The gearstick is presentable too, with just minor wear noted that is in-keeping with the mileage and use.

Mechanics

Civilised when it has to be, its natural ability is just a blip away, and this car being a 997.2 doesn't suffer from the engine issues.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine cold-start was free of any issues, with the engine firing up without any problems witnessed. The car idles evenly, with no unwanted noises heard from the engine.

All warning lights appeared to remain off during the time the engine was running. The gearbox selects gears without any issues, and no problems have been reported with the clutch.

Suspension and Brakes

The ride of the car is compliant and absorbs the road with no ill effects, these cars have a stiff ride that helps to instil confidence in the cars performance.

The car's braking was even and free of noises, there is a mild coat of corrosion noted on the discs, but this is likely to be due to a lack of recent use.

The Drive

Famed for its ability to fulfil daily driver needs, the 997, particularly in Carrera form is the ideal sports car for those seeking comfort with performance. The owner didn't push the car as we travelled on urban roads at speeds no more than 40mph, but no issues in terms of oil pressure or engine temperature were recorded during the drive. The steering remained true under braking and acceleration, and no untoward noises were heard from the wheels.

Electrics and Other

All of the electrical elements are said to be functioning, with the air-con blowing icy cold, the electric seats and windows all function as hoped. Please note that in the video the driver's side glass appears slightly open - the drop-down sealing was fully operational on the day.

History and Paperwork

A regular pattern of servicing and recent maintenance should instil confidence, this 997.2 S has clearly been cherished and the condition belies the mileage.

The car comes with a regular servicing schedule of stamps, the most recent one was carried out in 2021 - only 3,000 miles ago. A bill for a recent air conditioner overhaul is also included. The owner actioned an oil service with the help of a friend himself last year to keep up with servicing, there are receipts for a new battery and fuel pump which were fitted last year too. The car has an MOT until August 2023. It also comes with its original owner's wallet and two keys.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

You mentioned car has no heated seats? Is that correct because I can see buttons for the seat warmers?

Hello,

I just checked the number plate history it is the same car I viewed 18 months ago.

1) A photo of the cross over coolant pipes would be useful, when I viewed the car 18 months ago they were corroded, showing signs of leaking.

2) Can you please answer YES or NO to adding 12 months MOT.

3) When I test drove it, it had a super heavy clutch (I’ve owned 997s previously) sounds like this is still an issue ?

4) It was very heavenly smoked in, (evidenced by smell and stained interior) have both of these now faded .

Thank

Hello,

Did you buy the car from Staffordshire (at the time on number plate S11MVV, owned by a chap called Mark) ?
Can you confirm where the tyre repair is, it says sidewall but that is not legal in the uk
Have the front coolant pipes been replaced – if not do you mind adding a photo of them (inside front wheel arch area).

Are you willing to add another 12 months MOT ?

Thanks

Hi Chun. Lovely car I have been after a manual gen 2 after selling my 997.1 May I ask was the tyre sidewall repaired after the MOT as this would be a failure as a sidewall repair cannot pass. Where did you buy the 911 from and are there any invoices for the earlier services?
