Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

More powerful than the convertible Boxster, the Cayman is also ideal for year-round use.

Introduced in 2006, the Porsche Cayman is a two-seat sports car well-known for its striking design and dynamic performance. The mid-engine layout offers exceptional balance and handling. The Cayman's standout feature is its remarkable handling, with precise steering and finely-tuned suspension for a thrilling driving experience. Inside, you can experience a well-appointed cabin with quality materials, supportive seats, and modern technology. The Cayman is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Porsche 911, making it an attractive choice for those seeking Porsche's performance and prestige.

This lovely 2009 example is a desirable manual version of the Cayman. It comes with a good service history and is finished in the optional colour of "Midnight Blue Pearl", a nice change from the sea of grey, white and red cars you often see. It comes to market from ~1 year ownership.

This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting John the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This is my 4th Porsche, it's been great fun for the past year.

John has been a Porsche owner for the past ~15 years with his old 911, and wanted to try the Cayman after selling it. He describes the Cayman as giving a very similar and enjoyable driving experience, which he has enjoyed for the past year.

The Cayman was purchased from Elmstone Classics Porsche Specialists and had just been serviced prior to John getting the car. Since then, just over ~3,000 miles have been covered. He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Extra rigidity and strength to the convertible sibling, the Cayman has its own distinct style.

Wheels and Tyres

The original wheels have been repainted in the fantastic "Midnight Blue Pearl" and look superb with no kerb marks or scratches.

A full set of Bridgestone Potenza tyres is fitted, and all have plenty of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Looking around the Porsche Cayman, the car presents exceptionally well. There are no dings or dents to mention, and the panel gaps look to align as they should for the doors, bonnet, and boot. The underside also presents well; the floor area is nice and clean, with no areas of concern and looking around the engine and gearbox, these appear to be free from any leaks.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in "Midnight Blue Pearl", the paintwork on the Cayman looks fantastic, especially in the sun when the pearl effect really comes to life. There are a few swirl marks, minor age-related scratches and stone chips in keeping with the mileage, some of these we think could be to be polished out.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are in good condition with no noticeable scratches or chips. All of the seals appear to be in good order with minimal signs of age.

The headlight lenses are free from any damage. There is a small amount of discolouration, but this should easily be removed by using one of the headlight restoration kits that are available to buy.

Interior

A full leather interior, satellite navigation and a centre-mounted rev counter are all you need to feel at home in the Cayman.

Seats and Carpets

The electric, dark blue leather seats with perforated centre sections are in excellent condition with no real signs of wear other than some very, very minor creasing on the driver's bolster, certainly less than you would expect for the age of the Porsche. The door cards are in good order with no damage or scuffs.

The carpets throughout are in excellent condition. There is a set of factory Porsche mats fitted, which are also in good order. On the luggage shelf, there is a net to help keep everything in place. Inside the boot is also clean and tidy; there is a six-disc multi-changer, and the warning triangle is present. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

There is no damage to the top of the dashboard and no noticeable scuffs to the lower section. The instruments are working correctly, with the odometer reading ~61,935 miles, and no warning lights are showing when the engine is running.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is finished in blue to match the seats; there is a light amount of age-related shining to the rim, which we would say is in keeping with the mileage. The silver panels are in good order with no damage, and the five-speed gearknob has a similar amount of shining as the steering wheel.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

With ~271BHP and 214lb-ft of torque, the Porsche Cayman can launch from 0-60mph in ~5.5 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

As you will see in our "Mechanical Review" video, the 2.7 litre flat-six fires up without hesitation, no smoke is present, and John reports no issues with the running of the car. The gearbox is a five-speed manual, which has a smooth change, and the Cayman pulls strongly through the range of gears. Watch the video to see the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good condition, and no knocks or bangs could be heard on our test drive.

Fitted with drilled discs on each corner as standard, the Cayman stops in a straight line with no issues reported by John.

The Drive

Out on the road, the Cayman is a beautifully well-balanced car to drive. The manual version is much more driver-focused, providing a superb driving experience, and of course, the car has undeniably fantastic looks.

Electrics and Other

John reports there are no issues with the switchgear, and it all appears in excellent condition with no noticeable wear or stickiness to the buttons, and the air conditioning is blowing cold. There is satellite navigation fitted, which is working, although this may not be current.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

All the owner's manuals are present, this well presented example comes to market from ~1 year ownership with modest mileage of ~62,000 recorded.

The Porsche comes with both keys and a full complement of manuals, which were supplied with the car. The service book has seven service stamps, three brake fluid change stamps, two long-life condition stamps and one airbag system stamp. The last service was carried out on 28.06.2022, just 3,121 miles ago, at 58,814 miles. A lovely example finished in the Midnight Blue Pearl effect paint gives the Cayman the edge over the standard metallic colours in the range. This Porsche is excellent inside and out and looks to be a superb buy for the next custodian.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Hi John, just wondering when you’ve owned your 911 for 15 years, why selling the cayman after 1 yr? I note 6 previous owners – are there concerns you have about the car ? The more info the better to make a decision. Thanks

Hi, John has asked me to pass on his reply: I had to sell my 911 some years ago because of a divorce otherwise I would still have it today. I needed a car for my holiday last year to the West country and the Cayman seemed a good bet plus the fact I bought it from a well known Porsche dealer in my area. I have since purchased an F type so decided to let the cayman go as I can only drive one at a time. I have no concerns about this car, in my ownership I have… Read more »
