Introduction

Josh Sharples
Professional Consigner

The Renault 25 GTS was the flagship executive car of the French automaker, this cars interior takes you back in time.

It was the biggest, as well as most expensive car in Renault's range. The 25 first launched in 1983, it was designed to cut through the air as aerodynamically as possible. In its day the 25 was hailed for its smooth and responsive driving characteristics. This GTS model comes with a 2.0L engine and much loved manual 5-speed gearbox.

This particular car is coming to market from ~2 year ownership, and just one former keeper before. With the mileage reading ~22,500, it's definitely a unique find, and easy to understand why the current owners nostalgia spurred him on to buy this car. Take a look at the listing to see the condition of this low mileage executive Renault.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Josh after meeting Ben the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

After owning a Renault 25 in the 80s, Ben jumped at the opportunity to own another one four years ago.

Ben had fond memories of a road-trip in Ireland he made with his then fiancé, now wife, in his Renault 25 GTS back in 1986. He loved the car, and when he saw one being advertised he just had to have it for the nostalgia.

He has enjoyed having the 25 GTS but feels that it is taking up space, and as he doesn't drive it as often as he'd like to he is putting it up for sale. It has spent its time with under a cover, keeping it in the condition it is in. Ben will be happy to answer your questions on the car in the comments section.

Exterior

A period French saloon shape, with just one former keeper it's in good condition as the low mileage would elude to.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 14" steel wheels, this 25 GTS has has original wheel trims that were fitted to the car. We only noticed very slight marks on one of the trims from possible curb contact, otherwise the trims looked in good condition.

A complete set of Sunny Comfort tyres were found on the car, they all seemed to have a decent amount of life left in them, nothing noted in the recent MOT. Please take a look at the high resolution photos and videos to make your own judgement on the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

Overall the bodywork seemed to be in good condition. Panels appeared to line up nicely, gaps looked to be consistent across the car.

We did notice a bit of visible rust on the wheel arches, but we don't think this would be a big concern just superficial, and nothing flagged in terms of any corrosion to structural areas in the MOT. We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The paint looked to be in good condition overall, we did notice a small area at the bottom of the front passenger door where the paint had peeled, likely due to age.

Again, the images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The chrome trim around the windows did look a bit aged, it was slightly marked as you can see in the photos and video, we don't think this is a major issue. We also noticed a few scratches on the plastic bumpers too. All glass on the car looked in good condition, with no chips or cracks visible to us.

Take a look for yourself in the photos and video below.

Interior

A very modern for the time steering wheel and dashboard greet you as you open the door, blue velour and cloth across the cabin.

Seats and Carpets

This car is a bit like stepping into a time capsule, the seats looked in good condition showing only slight wear considering the age of the car and being cloth, this would suggest the mileage of the car to be as low as shown on the odometer.

Carpets appeared to be in good condition too, with only slight signs of usage in the front footwells. Most cars of this age with cloth seats tend to have bad damage, it's amazing to see this condition of this cabin looking so good. You can judge the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself by looking at the photos and video below.

Dashboard

The 25 features a very angular designed dashboard, giving a modern feel for a car from the 80s. A relatively simple design with only a few rotary switches controlling the fans, large dials and an acutely angled stereo system. All looked to be in good order.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The double pronged steering wheel showed very little signs of wear as you'd expect with such a low mileage car, only a couple of small stains were noticed on the centre of the wheel, probably areas that the right detailing products could remedy.

The manual gear stick also only showed signs of little use, we didn't notice any tears in the gator either. Please have a look at the photos and video below to make a decision for yourself.

Mechanics

A 2.0L engine is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox giving the GTS ~101BHP and a 0-60mph sprint of ~10.4s.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fired up first time, we didn't notice any untoward noises either. Whilst out on the road with Ben, the engine seemed to have a smooth power delivery, we took the car onto a dual carriageway where the the engine sat happily at 70MPH, quietly too in this executive saloon.

We witnessed smooth gear changes whilst on the road with Ben too. No crunches or other unexpected noises were noticed. To see for yourself how the 25 GTS performs on the road please take a look at the on the road video below.

Suspension and Brakes

On our drive with Ben the suspension felt tight, it rode well over bumps with no jarring. We didn't notice any unusual noises from the suspension.

The brakes had a good bite to them, stopping the car true and straight. The car tracked true, and we didn't notice any shake on the steering wheel.

The Drive

As mentioned above the drive with Ben gave us a look at how well the car performed on the road. It had a smooth ride all round from power delivery and gear changes to a comfortable ride and quiet engine.

You can see our drive with Ben in the on the road video below.

Electrics and Other

All clocks and dials appeared to be in working order, Ben told us all other electrics were working as expected to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~2 year ownership, with 1 former keeper prior, and a low mileage of ~22,500, you'll struggle to find another Renault 25 GTS like this one.

There's not a lot of history that comes with this car, Ben having purchased it from a dealership rather than the original owner from new. Given the condition and mileage recorded, we would hazard a guess that this car has led a very sheltered and pampered life.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
