Introduction
Dom Ginn
Nimble, chic and stylish – the French knew they were onto something special!
The Renault 5 is one of those cars that had an enduring impact on the automotive world. Originally introduced in 1972 the Renault 5 was an immediate hit with the French public and quickly began to see success in export markets too. Designed by Michel Boue, who sadly died before the “R5” was released, these cars are chic, stylish and were originally aimed at young French urbanites. They quickly became leaders in the “Supermini” segment of the market and enjoyed a production run of some 24 years with nearly 3.5 million models being produced.
This lovely, beautifully cared for example is a second generation, face-lift model in amazing original condition. It’s believed to be unrestored, has covered just over 35,000 miles since new and has only had 2 former keepers. The low mileage is supported by extensive documentation that demonstrates fastidious and conscientious ownership. And it shows! It comes to market now from ~1 year ownership, where it's been used sparingly around the local area.
This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Michael the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Good morning, Mike. I can’t seem to find the reserve – could you remind me again, please? Many thanks.
Andrew.
Andrew
Trade Classics T&Cs for the auction require the reserve to remain confidential I’m afraid.
Regards
Mike
Ah, I see, no problem. Thanks, Mike.
Andrew.
Hi Mike, hope you’re well. I see the bidding hasn’t moved for a few days. I am seriously considering making a bid, but need to be careful in terms of budget…
Andrew.
Andrew
Thanks for your interest. Still got a week to go so we’ll see what happens with bidding – many seem to wait till the final stages. However I think the reserve is set at a very realistic figure.
Regards
Mike
This Renault 5 looks brilliant – have always loved them, but never owned one (I had a 19 a few years back). How open are you to up front offers? I am looking for something slightly different to your usual “mid-life” car and this could be it. I am based in Plymouth, Devon – how would delivery work? I wanted to ask about the quality of the radio, too! Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.
Andrew.
Andrew It is a lovely car-I regret the change of circumstance that means it no longer fits my needs. It’s very hard to put a value on it so I’ll let the auction take it’s full course.Trade Classics can advise on delivery – I’ve had cars moved right across the country – It’s not difficult to arrange.
The radio works well – not DAB of course but works well with local and national FM stations. The cassette player works fine. I had to buy a cassette from eBay to test it. Hope you like Simon and Garfunkel! The speakers have a better sound quality than I expected.
Regards Mike
Thanks for your reply, Mike. I do like Simon and Garfunkel! I haven’t placed a bid yet – to be honest the last time I bought a car at auction it was a Mk 1 Fiesta, way before they became a classic! I will keep an eye and see what happens. Thanks again, lovely car. Andrew.
