Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Editor and Photographer

The Prodrive-tuned Impreza RB320 is the ultimate tribute to rally legend Richard Burns.

Born from Subaru’s formidable rally pedigree, the Impreza WRX STi was first launched in 1994 as a homologation model and quickly became a favourite among performance enthusiasts, tuners, and amateur racers alike. By 2007, the RB320 arrived as a Prodrive-developed special edition created in memory of 2001 World Rally Champion Richard Burns. Limited to just 320 examples, it featured unique ‘Obsidian Black’ paintwork, anthracite grey alloy wheels, vivid day-glow orange ‘RB’ accents, upgraded suspension, and a Prodrive-tuned 2.5-litre engine producing around 316 BHP.

Designed to excel on both twisting B-roads and track days, the RB320’s suspension upgrades sharpened high-speed composure while retaining the model’s famed all-weather grip. These enhancements helped cement its reputation as one of the finest and most desirable Impreza variants ever built.

This example, number 209 of 320, is finished with the optional black leather upholstery, complete with RB320 stitching on the seats and gear knob. With just ~32,248 miles recorded, it has been cherished by a handful of long-term owners and presents in superbly original condition. Its service history is excellent, showing 12 stamps since 2007, the most recent in November 2024. Offered with its full owner’s wallet, two keys, and MOT until November 2026, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a highly collectable RB320.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after visiting and photographing the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I bought the car because of its rarity, low mileage and service documentation.

Jon tells us he was already an Impreza owner when the RB320 came along, and it offered him the chance to own a small piece of motoring history - with only 320 ever built. It was also announced as the last in Subaru’s series of Richard Burns tribute cars, making it all the more special.

“In an ideal world, I wouldn’t sell it,” Jon explains. “But I’ve owned the car for around 10 years and, having just bought another, it’s time to let this one go to a new owner who will hopefully love and appreciate it for what it is.”

Jon will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Finished in metallic 'Obsidian Black' paint, complemented by unique anthracite grey Prodrive alloys, the RB320 is a subtle but effective take on the WRX.

Wheels and Tyres

The anthracite grey Prodrive OZ 18” are in smart condition and are free from marks or significant road wear.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres with a spec of 235/40 and are date-coded from 2020. They have plenty of legal and show even tread.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Subaru and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

image

Bodywork

The exterior bodywork is in excellent condition, with no discernible signs of corrosion. There is a mild dent on the bonnet, which is difficult to see but could easily be resolved by a specialist, but otherwise the car is free of damage. The panels are flush to the body with visually even shut lines.

All doors open and close with ease, although the passenger door handle will need attention; it is operational, but it is a slightly loose fit.

The underside appears to be in good shape; much of it is hidden with plastic trays.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The metallic 'Obsidian Black' paint has a subtle paint flake and is consistent in hue with no significant marks or chips. The lustre is positive, with just mild swirls noted in the direct sunlight. A detailer could easily resolve the few minor surface scuffs on the bonnet and nearside panels.

There is a little orange peeling and a handful of minor underpaint blisters on the offside rear door and a blemish on the top of the rear wing - again very difficult to notice. We think that these are minor imperfections and do not distract from the positive presentation of the car.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass, lights and lenses are in good shape, with decent seals across the car.

The trim is correct for the RB320 model, and all appear to be well-mounted to the body.

The rear spoiler and unique special silver mesh grilles are in good shape

The nearside front bumper mount is a little loose - it is flush to the body, but it appears to just need a minor fix and the lowest section of the front splitter has a few scuffs.

image

Interior

The full leather pack and Defi gauges give the interior a smart and unique appearance.

Seats and Carpets

The full leather black sports bucket seats with embossed RB-320 motif are cleanly presented, with no outstanding signs of age other than the mildest of bolster wear on the driver's seat.

The carpets and factory RB-320 mats are clean and damp-free.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, there are a few minor scuffs close to the entry points and the centre console facia, but otherwise above the expectations of a car of this age.

The dials and controls are cleanly presented - there is little wear on the aftermarket cruise control stalk, but otherwise, everything presents smartly. The current mileage is 32,248.

Jon confirms all the functions work as they should, including the air-con.

The headlining, interior trim and door cards are in excellent shape.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and RB320 motif gear knob are smartly presented.

image

Mechanics

Driving the RB320 is a full-on exhilarating and sensory experience.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start process didn’t pose any issues; the car fired up immediately with no hesitation. The engine sounded even with no undulations and idles smoothly. All dashboard warning lights remained off. There were no unwanted rattles from the engine, and the exhaust remained smoke-free.

The engine presentation is positive, with decent hoses and ancillaries. The next owner could go to town with the engine clean-up, as it appears it would respond positively to a detailing. The car has been fitted with a brand new battery.

The gearbox has a positive feel, with a smooth, slick change and no notchiness.

The clutch has a good weighting to it and a positive bite.

image

Suspension and Brakes

Out on the road, the Impreza delivers a firm yet compliant ride. In the corners, no unwanted mechanical noises or knocks were noted. The suspension has been replaced, as the original Prodrive kit is no longer available, with Jon opting for the equivalent KYB replacements fitted to all four corners.

Braking performance is strong and confidence-inspiring, with no negative feedback and the car coming to a stop without drama. While we didn’t need to fully test the ABS, there were no warning lights to indicate any issues with the system.

image

The Drive

The Subaru Impreza has long been celebrated for blending everyday usability with genuine rally-bred performance. As a daily driver, its Japanese refinement and smoothness shine through, making it easy and comfortable to live with. Yet, for those seeking more, its grip and balance are nothing short of phenomenal.

Adam, our CEO, drove the car on behalf of Jon, the owner. The Impreza impressed immediately, demonstrating neat handling and excellent composure without excessive body roll. It soaked up uneven road surfaces with typical Subaru confidence. The engine pulled smoothly, free from hesitation or unwelcome noises, with plenty of low-end torque on offer. The speed-sensitive power steering worked perfectly, giving just the right amount of feedback.

On the move, the car felt beautifully balanced into corners, with no play or noises from the steering. Turbo lag was minimal, and while Adam didn’t fully exploit the boost, it was evident that the car is quick in a straight line and more than capable of entertaining on twisty roads - or even allowing for some sideways antics if desired.

Throughout the drive, the oil pressure held steady at around 50 PSI at dual-carriageway speeds, and the temperature remained well within safe limits. Jon also reports fault-free reliability. Even when left idling for a period, the engine remained smooth, with no negative readings on the dials.

image

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with a built-in Cat 1/ Immobiliser and has a 'Metasat' vehicle tracker system.

An aftermarket cruise control has been fitted, and an aftermarket forward-facing dash cam and rear parking camera connections were installed by the previous owner - both can be wired to function if needed.

image

History and Paperwork

It comes with an excellent service history, and has just ~32,248 on the clock.

The car was first registered in August 2007 by main dealer Holdcroft in Staffordshire and has an impressive 12 stamps over its 32,248 miles.

Jon bought the car in 2016 and has not needed to replace any major components over his almost ~10 years of ownership. Its battery has been replaced in September 2025 and carries a three-year guarantee.

The car comes with its full owner's wallet and two keys. It has an MOT to November 2026, having passed its previous one with no advisories. It was last serviced in 2024 and covered around 700 miles since. The timing belts and pulleys were replaced in early 2025.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Hi Jon. 2 questions please:
    1. I note the latest MOT highlighted corrosion to both rear sills. I can’t see any reference to that in the advert. Please could you provide some more detail as to the level of corrosion, its location etc.
    2. Other than the cruise control and dash cam connections, are there any other modifications to the vehicle?
    Thanks, Charlie

    Hi Faz,

There is a reserve set on all the cars, unless stated otherwise, but we can’t divulge it as it undermine’s the auction. There is no buy it now option, the auction has to run to the end, if it doesn’t meet reserve the highest bidder has the first refusal of a post auction deal, so its worth having your bid in.

    Thanks,
    Colin.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
