A desirable and sought-after UK spec MR2 with low ownership and low mileage.

It's no secret that the MR2 in MK2 guise is now established as a modern classic. Sold in the UK with three trim levels, a coupe, GT and GT T-Bar all with different states of engine tune. Because of the unusually long production run of the MK2 MR2, one needs to do their homework to make sure that the car is what it states to be. The vast number of grey imports that flooded the market is not necessarily a bad thing, as many were well kept but often lacked any meaningful history.

That is not the case with this superb example! A UK car with good history, mainly serviced by the same main dealer from new, this 1993 Toyota MR2 GT is somewhat of a rare find and comes to market from ~2 year ownership with just 2 former keepers recorded.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Celia the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I’ve always had a soft spot for the MR2 since owning one in the late 90s.

Former journalist Celia had a job reviewing cars in the 1990s, and one of the cars she reviewed was, in fact, a MK2 Toyota MR2 when they were launched. After a few days with the car, she became hooked and promised herself that one day she would own one. This did happen in the late 90s, which she remembers being great fun. 2 years ago, the nostalgia bug took hold, and Celia spotted this stunning 1993 example for sale whilst on holiday in Greece. A call to the garage in the UK meant that they saved it for her, and heading home couldn’t come quick enough.

Whilst it has been an enormous amount of fun, the MR2 simply hasn’t been used a great amount, and with storage being an extra cost, it makes owning the MR2 an expensive luxury, which is the reason for the sale of Celia’s 90s dream car. She'll be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

With sleek lines and a T-bar roof, the Toyota MR2 ticks all the boxes for a two-seater sports car.

Wheels and Tyres

The original wheels are in good condition with no real kerb damage to talk of, but there is a small amount of age-related corrosion, which could easily be rectified by your local wheel refurbisher.

A full set of Yokohama tyres have been fitted and have a good amount of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

The bodywork on the MR2 is in fantastic condition. The shut lines are equal and matching, and there are no noticeable dings or dents to point out. There are also no blisters or signs of corrosion visible; being dry stored for several years has certainly kept the MR2 in the finest possible condition.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Finished in the rare colour of "Super Bright Yellow", the paintwork is in excellent condition. It has recently been fully detailed and looks fantastic. There are no real swirl marks to point out and no signs of any scratches.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all free from any noticeable scratches, including the removable roof glass. These panels do have their own storage bags, and there is also an interior panel which covers them if you wish to block out some light. The window trims and seals all appear to be in good order with no tarnishing or perishing.

Super cool pop-up headlights are working correctly and free from any damage, as are the lower fog lights, indicators and rear light clusters.

Sports black leather seats hug you tightly and are perfect inside the 2-seater T-bar.

Seats and Carpets

The big bolster leather seats are in excellent condition with just the smallest amount of wear to the driver's bolster, which could easily be coloured in with some of the leather dyes available today. The passenger seat and door cards are excellent, with no signs of damage.

The carpets look to be spotless throughout and have a set of factory Toyota mats, which are also in superb condition. Both boots are extremely clean, and in the front, the spare wheel and tool kit are present.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

The dashboard is free from any splits, cracks or scuffs, the instrument cluster has no warning lights displayed when running, and the odometer has a reading of ~59,542 miles. The original radio cassette head unit is in place and works as it should.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather three-spoke steering wheel is in excellent condition with no signs of excessive wear. The handbrake and gearknob are in the same condition, and the numbers can be easily seen.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

The mid-mounted 2.0L, 16 valve engine packed enough power to make the MR2 a fantastic and well-balanced car to drive.

Engine and Gearbox

The 2.0-litre 16 valve fires into life with the flick of the key and runs superbly with no issues reported. There was a service carried out in May 2023 to add to the already long list of services. The engine bay is super clean, with minimal oxidisation on the engine components.

The five-speed gearbox has a smooth and precise change with no issues or untoward noises coming from the transmission.

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the MR2 is lovely to be in; there are no knocks or bangs from either corner of the car, and it handles superbly, just as you would expect from a mid-engined sports car.

The brakes bring the car to a stop in a straight line with no juddering through the pedal, and the discs don’t appear to have a great amount of wear to them.

The Drive

What a fun car! There is enough performance to keep you entertained, and the 2.0-litre engine sounds fantastic, sitting not too far behind you. It also looks the part with sleek lines, cool pop-up headlights, air intakes in the quarters and removable T-bar roof panels. What's not to love about the Toyota MR2?

Electrics and Other

The switch gear in the car is all in excellent condition, with no signs of excessive wear to any of the buttons or stalks. Celia says everything is working as it should, including the electric aerial.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

With all the manuals present and a good selection of service invoices, the MR2 appears to have been well cared for, just 2 former keepers and a low mileage example sitting at ~59,500.

There is a good collection of invoices for servicing work carried out, backed up with a stamped service book. As mentioned, the last service was in May 2023, when it was carried out at the Toyota dealership, which has carried out the majority of services. There were several years where the MR2 was put in long-term storage, but it was still taken out each year for the MOT test, where you can see just a few miles to and from the test station have been covered.

Just 2 previous keepers have had the pleasure of this wonderful two-seater; it comes with all the handbooks, and three keys and is in superb condition with just ~59,542 miles on the clock.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Your car looks lovely, really well cared for.
Could you tell me please the date the timing belt was last changed? Also, was the water pump replaced at that time?
Thank you,
