Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

With a sleek design and powerful fuel-injected engine, the TR6 grasps the essence of British motoring perfectly.

The TR6 was built between 1968 and 1976. The first bodies were built in Liverpool, and the '6' was the best-seller of the TR range. Out of the ~91,850 produced, only ~8,370 were ever sold in the UK. The frame, engine, running gear, body tub, and doors were very similar to the Michelotti-styled TR5. The front and rear of the car were restyled by Karmann of Germany, yet rumours claim the squared-off tail design was a Michelotti prototype.

Coming to market from ~12 and a half years with our vendor, this beautiful 1969 Triumph TR6 CP was lovingly restored between 2013 and 2020 to the fantastic condition you see here. What better way to head into summer than behind the wheel of a ready-to-go British classic?

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Celeste the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A great deal of time and effort was put into keeping the restoration as close to the original as possible.

The TR6 is a reluctant sale for Celeste, Robert's wife, who restored the car.

Purchased in 2013 as a project, Robert carried out much of the restoration work himself and, when not, carefully chosen specialists were used.

Completed in 2020, Robert had the pleasure of using the car for five years, as often as possible, but only when the sun was out. Sadly, a tragic accident occurred while he was out riding his other passion, his Vespa scooter.

Celeste will be available to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The "Kamm-Tail" – an iconic design that wasn't just for looks; it was an aerodynamic trick to reduce drag and lift at higher speeds.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are a set of Minilite-style Minator alloy wheels, which are finished in silver and are all in good condition.

There is a set of Goodyear EfficientGrip tyres fitted, which are in like-new condition.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

A full body restoration has been carried out, and the TR6's looks to be in excellent condition, with no dings or dents spotted, and the panel gaps appear to be as you would expect.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in bright red, the TR6's paintwork presents very well indeed. A deep, lustrous finish helps the TR6 stand out from the rest.

As you can see, the paintwork is in excellent condition, with no noticeable chips or marks to mention.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to make up your own mind about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The windscreen and side windows appear to be in good condition, with just a few age-related marks on the side windows.

The window seals are in excellent condition.

Most of the chrome trim looks to have been replaced during the restoration and has a bright finish, with no signs of tarnishing or age.

A black vinyl roof is fitted, and this is in excellent condition, along with the plastic rear window. We noticed one press stud missing, but it would be easy to replace.

The front and rear lights are in excellent condition, with no splits or cracks in the lenses.

image

Interior

With plenty of gauges to monitor the TR6's vitals, the interior is simple yet functional.

Seats and Carpets

The original seats have been retrimmed in black vinyl with red piping and are in excellent condition.

Both door cards are in good order and have been trimmed to match the seats.

Throughout the TR6, a full black carpet set with red edging to match the rest of the interior has been fitted and is in excellent condition.

image

Dashboard

The vinyl-topped dashboard is in excellent condition and features a lovely wooden fascia, packed with Smiths gauges that all appear to be in excellent condition and working correctly.

The odometer shows ~97,114 miles.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A three-spoke steering wheel has been fitted and is in good order, with only light signs of age and use, as is the gear knob.

image

Mechanics

A fuel-injected 2.5-litre straight-six produces ~150 bhp – perfect for a British two-seater classic.

Engine and Gearbox

Looking through the paperwork, there are invoices present that show some engine work has been carried out.

The TR6 fires up without hesitation and idles smoothly thanks to the fuel injection system.

Fitted with a four-speed gearbox with overdrive, it has a smooth shift, and the overdrive operates as you would expect, switched on via the column-mounted stalk.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension has been overhauled during the restoration and looks in fantastic condition. The same can be said for the ride, where there were no knocks or bangs present when we took the car out, and the car came to a stop in a straight line, with no issues reported.

image

The Drive

Driving the TR6 is a wonderfully raw and involving experience, the kind that reminds you why classic British sports cars hold such appeal.

The 2.5-litre straight-six has great torque from low down the rev range and a wonderful tone as you build speed and work your way through the manual gearbox.

A proper British classic that delivers exactly what it says on the tin.

image

Electrics and Other

All of the switchgear appears to be working correctly and presents well, with minimal signs of age on the lettering.

While we didn't test everything during our visit Celeste ensured us everything was in working order, to her knowledge.

image

History and Paperwork

Receipts galore! These show many parts purchased for the TR6.

There is a large collection of invoices dating back to around 2013, when Robert started the restoration. Always nice to see with a classic is the original registration booklet.

This is a fantastic opportunity to own a lovingly restored 1969 Triumph TR6, ready to hit the road and enjoy some simple, honest open-top motoring.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C, and an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen, written off, and does not have any outstanding finance. Please note: this check does not include mileage verification.

We’ve summarised the car based on the seller’s information above. As always, we go to great lengths to photograph and film the car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own informed assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So grab a cuppa, sit back, and enjoy reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are welcome for all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a time – we just need to speak with you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If you have any questions, no matter how small, please ask the seller in the comments section below before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win, just like in a traditional auction.

Hi Celeste, I’m sorry to hear of the difficulties you have faced.
Do you have any mot history?
Where in Bristol? I live over in Box.

Hello. Lovely looking car. Would you know what shade of red this car is by any chance? Signal red was the standard offering on cars from this year, followed by Pimento red in the 1972/73 models I believe. It’s hard to tell from the photographs what shade of red this car is. Many thanks.
