Introduction
Glyn Parry
A charming slice of British motoring history - sporty performance with everyday usability.
The Triumph Vitesse is a true embodiment of British motoring charm - compact, stylish, and surprisingly spirited. Originally launched in the early 1960s as an upmarket evolution of the Herald, the Vitesse was designed by the legendary Giovanni Michelotti and offered a rare blend of practicality and performance.
By 1969, the model had evolved into the Mk2 version, featuring a more refined 2.0L straight-six engine and upgraded rear suspension, which greatly improved handling and ride comfort. With its distinctive twin headlights, retro angular rear lights, and smooth power delivery, the Vitesse offered something unique in its class.
A great amount of work has been carried out on the car over its years, originally starting with a restoration in the early '90s, and then more recent body restorative work completed in ~2016. Since then, only ~2,000 miles have been covered, making the previous works still really noticeable today. A charming, compact car with Italian design flair, the Vitesse is something a little different.
Today, it remains a desirable and usable classic, loved for its engaging drive, elegant design, and the spirited personality that makes every journey feel special. A characterful and accessible classic with a strong enthusiast following. This example comes from just over ~2 years with our vendor and has a current MOT, even though it is exempt, which is valid until 28.04.2026.

Hello Mike I have driven a couple of vittesses in my search for a mk2 vittesse and both of them were quite surprisingly sluggish on acceleration in compariaon to my mg midget is there still a bit of pep left in this one ?
Quite hard for me to give a definitive answer to this. It’s about 45 years since I was last in a Midget, but I think the perception of acceleration in the Midget might be greater because of the lower seating position? It’s like comparing apples and pears.
I have felt no dissatisfaction with the acceleration in the Vitesse, in fact I would swap a little of that for slightly taller gearing. (I am not alone in that because a number of Vitesse owners have changed rear axle ratios for that reason.)
It looks like the actual engine number does not match the V5C ?
Good spot. The number stamped on the engine starts with HC5, which is in the correct number sequence for a UK high compression 2 litre Mk2 Vitesse. The number on the V5C seems not to be in the format of any Triumph engine number at all, so this does not signal an engine change. I shall take advice on what action may be needed to update the V5C
May be simple, I corrected an engine number on V5 C last year, no problems but for some people it opened up a can of worms needing who what when proof of engine being fitted.
Hi, any update on the V5C ?
Looking at the history file it’s been this way for a long time so probably best leave as is ?
Thank you, that is my inclination, unless a new owner demands it.
If I win the auction will leave as is for now.
Not quite sure how this auction works – Will it run till end? Car has no overdrive I presume?
Oh and where is it located? Viewing?
Car is a few miles north of Hereford. Viewing is possible most days but must be arranged via Trade Classics.
Sorry, no overdrive. (In Herefordshire, one can rarely go fast enough to use it.)
Auction will run to the end.
