Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

The Herald is an iconic British classic with gorgeous Michelotti styling in convertible form - ideal for summer road trips and beach days.

The 13/60 was the final update to the original concept - production started at the end of 1967 and completed in 1971. The Herald was fitted with the same 1296cc engine as the Triumph 1300 and Mk3 Spitfire - offering the driver a 25% increase in power from the previous version. Some of the changes were as follows: the front end was revised with styling based on the Vitesse bonnet with single 7" headlamps; 9-gallon fuel tanks and features like the rare steering lock were installed on these later examples.

This example comes to market fresh from ~4 year ownership, just 4 former keepers and a mileage of just ~74,000. The car has recently had a refreshed interior and a mechanical overhaul and is presented in an attractive Saffron Yellow over black colourway - it's a lovely specification which gives the Triumph Herald that extra appeal.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting John the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my ownership of this Herald, it’s accompanied me on many car meets and Triumph shows.

John has owned this Triumph Herald for the previous ~4 years and over that time he has only used the Herald for the occasional trips out and to Triumph meets that he attended on the weekends.

John would love to keep the Herald as part of his collection, although he's after an older MG for his weekend trips, and so he has decided to part with the Herald to free up the garage space. John will be on hand to answer any questions on the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Beautiful '60s styling finished in vibrant Saffron Yellow with brightwork.

Wheels and Tyres

The chrome wheels gives the car a touch of character. On this example, the wheels appear well cared for, with no sign of any major damage to any of the hubs from our observation; just some very light marks.

The wheels are fitted with Dunlop Street Response 2s at the front dated 2020, and Michelin Energy dated 2008 on the rear, both sets of tyres appear to also be in good condition, with a good amount of tread remaining and no major cracking or signs of age to the outer sidewalls.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Herald looks in good condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to align quite well.

During our visit we didn't spot any obvious signs of damage - however upon closer inspection we noticed a very small pin dent to the hood and boot. We started to notice some small areas of bubbling, especially around the front headlights.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in Saffron Yellow (54) paint from factory the car really stands out on the roads today.

The car has previously received touch up paint, that is a near match but a little obvious in areas once you get close; you can see these small defects in the photos and video below.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Triumph looks great and in line with the ownership, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The chrome bumpers, grille, door handles, and window surrounds all look in good condition. When we put the roof up we noticed a very small tear on the passengers side, which can be seen in the photos and videos.

Please take a look at the exterior photos to see these details in up close.

Interior

The Herald has recently benefitted from a retrimmed interior with new seats, belts and carpets.

Seats and Carpets

The seats and carpets have recently been replaced by John over his ownership.

The door cards also look great and have been reupholstered recently.

Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a dark wood finish and presents three large black gauges in front of the driver, with central controls clearly laid out.

With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~74,022 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel presents in good condition, and the Triumph gear selector looks good too.

Please take a look at the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

The Herald makes for an ideal starter classic or just plain motoring fun with great availability of parts.

Engine and Gearbox

Equipped with the reliable 1.3L block, on the day of our visit we started the car from cold, and it performed well out on the road - the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

John reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its manual gearbox.

Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around town, and for a closer look underneath the Herald and the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears in good condition and provided a smooth journey around the roads of Bournemouth.

On our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a Triumph from this era, coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

The distinctive driving position, smell and sounds takes John back to his youth; perfect for getaway holidays with his wife.

The Herald 13/60 fired up the first time with no issues to report.

On the road with John, the car felt tight, it had plenty of power to push it along the road and round any corners. We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but John reports that to his knowledge all of the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

History and Paperwork

Ideal for summer roof down cruising with room to improve a little - this late Saffron Yellow Herald 13/60 is a real charmer.

The car has bags of originality and finished in Saffron Yellow we think its extremely charming and stylish. The car comes with a its original manual, the car has recently received a fresh MOT, underseal, new seats, carpets, safety belts, and hood. Take a look at this history and paperwork media to see the previous MOT reports, and service manual. The car also comes with a jack, tool kit and tonneau cover.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
