Introduction

The car is painted the correct Triumph Carmine Red colour, and comes complete with a hard top (in very good condition), soft top (also in good condition), and drives very well with a very nice V8 noise from the stainless steel exhaust. It really looks and sounds the part!

I have owned the car for 28 years. It's the second stag I've owned, but the first in the colour and spec I have always wanted. My recent purchase of a Mark 2 Jaguar means I have one too many Stags as I approach my retirement!

This car is the first stag that I have undertaken a rolling restoration on and have been pleased with results. I have enjoyed owning it and I still enjoy driving it even after I have another one in the colour and specifications I was originally after.

Exterior

The car was restored over 10 years ago with any new parts required being fitted. It has been garaged and used as a summer car since then, so the paintwork remains in good condition. No rust has developed since its restoration. The car is in very good condition.

Wheels and Tyres

The standard Stag alloy wheels are all in good condition with no scrapes or knocks.

The tyres are in order and MOT compliant. (Including the spare).

Bodywork

The bodywork is in very good condition, with some minor dents particularly to the front near-side wing and passenger door, as well as to the hard top. In all cases the paintwork is undamaged.

The paintwork still shines brightly.

Paint

As outlined above, the car has been resprayed and the colour has not faded or shown any signs of ageing since then. It presents really nicely with a good shine.

Glass and Trim

Glass and trim are in very good condition, with the front screen having a shade band. The electric window glasses are in good condition, as is the hard top glass. Finally, the back window panel in the soft top is also in good condition.

The soft top is in good condition with no rips or tears.

All chrome trim is original and in good condition.

Interior

The interior trim is in very good original condition for the car’s age. The black vinyl seat coverings are all in good order except for minor wear on the driver’s seat bolster, commensurate with the car's age.

Seats and Carpets

The carpets are in black and were replaced at the time of the restoration.

The seats are in good condition with no sags to the seat cushions and backs. The rear seat is as in original condition.

Dashboard

The veneer dashboard is in good, original condition - as are the heater and gearstick surround panels.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is per the original specification and is good for its age.

The gear-lever/stick is also good, with a fully functional overdrive switch.

Mechanics

The sound from the sports stainless steel exhaust note is a credit to the car. The car itself drives very sweetly and is a head turner! I find it easy to drive as it has power steering, which is precise.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine was rebuilt many years ago, and due to its electronic ignition system, runs very smoothly.

The manual overdrive gearbox is as should be, with smooth gear changes. The overdrive functions on 3rd and 4th gears as designed.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension and brakes were overhauled in 1999, and all operate smoothly with no knocks. The car stops in a straight line when the brakes are applied.

There is an issue with the brake servo which requires attention as there is a fluid leak.

The Drive

The car starts first time all the time and does not take long to run up to normal operating temperature. All the gauges on the dashboard work well, including an oil pressure gauge, and they show after a run that there are none of the overheating issues that are normally associated with these cars.

The drive is smooth and comforting, and is great fund during the summer months: it keeps up admirably with modern day traffic!

Electrics and Other

The electrics all work, with the switchgear for the lights, heater, windscreen, etc all functional.

History and Paperwork

The car has an original local registration number from the area in which I live, which is included in the sale. There is no service history with the car, but it's been repaired and maintained over the years as necessary.

The car is MOT exempt with the last test undertaken in May 2017 - with no advisories - at a mileage of 27,656. The car’s current mileage is 28547. So the car has not done many miles in between previous MOT’s nor since its last MOT in 2017.
There is no service history with the car, with only annual oil changes having been undertaken.

Attached are a limited number of invoices that are self explanatory - they cover when the restoration was done, along with some other replacement parts.

The hard top and soft top are both included in the sale.

    If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

    Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

    Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

    Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

    Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
