Powerful, luxurious and above all beautiful – The Stag brought a new dimension to the Triumph stable
The handiwork of Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Stag was launched in 1970 and was like nothing else from a British manufacturer at the time. Based on a shortened Triumph 2000 floorpan the four seat, two door luxury tourer was Triumphs first unitary construction sports car. Strong, luxurious, and powerful the Stag was a hit with the public and met with critical acclaim. Elegant looks, smooth power delivery and an opulent interior resulted in real enthusiasm from the motoring press. All original Stags were powered by Triumphs own 3 Litre V8 and offered with either automatic or manual transmission with overdrive. Stags are immensely popular classics today and of the 17,819 originally produced for the UK market around 8,300 remain registered with the DVLA – a remarkable survival rate of around 46%.
This Stag comes to auction from ~11 years in the same family. It's a lovely example in "Leyland White" over a beautiful back interior, this car delivers the power via a 3-speed automatic gearbox. Restored by the current owner, and having covered less than ~1,000 miles in ~13 years, it's a great example which is ready to go.
This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Steve the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.
