Introduction
Colin Bashford
The Triumph Dolomite Sprint, designed to compete with the likes of the BMW 2002, was launched in June 1973.
Triumph introduced the world to the Dolomite in 1971 at the London Motor Show. It used the body shell from the Triumph 1500 but was equipped with rear-wheel-drive running gear from the Triumph Toledo. When the Dolomite launched in 1972, it was fitted with a ~91 BHP, 1,854cc slant-four engine.
In 1973, Triumph introduced a sportier variant: the Dolomite Sprint. This model featured a more powerful version of the slant-four engine, with an increased capacity of 1,998cc. As a result, power output rose to ~127 BHP. Both the gearbox and differential were upgraded to handle the additional power and torque from the new engine.
This particular car is a 1976 Dolomite Sprint and it comes to market after approximately 1 year and 3 months with our vendor. We understand from Barry, the owner, that the car was laid up back in 1984 and was discovered as a 'barn find' example some thirty years later, after which it subsequently underwent a two-year restoration completed in ~2020. During the restoration the car was stripped down to its bare shell, resprayed, including the underside, and now presents in lovely condition - possibly even better than when it left the factory.
An incredible opportunity to own this stunning example of the Dolomite Sprint.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi Barry, can you certify all asbestos was removed from the Sprint when it was rebuilt?
Also, do you know why the car runs tough when cold. Do the carnies need overhauling? Thanks Tim
Car was totally stripped down to bare shell, so is clear of anything.
Do you mean carbs? Reason for splutter when cold start, on choke and definitely no problem, carbs excellent.
Good Evening,
Another question for you does it run on unleaded or does it need an additive.
As I remember the 1850 ran on leaded.
I am looking back about 40 odd years ago.
It runs on normal fuel unleaded. It does not need additives.
I am really interested in your car and think it’s a very good example.
I had a 1850 HL many years ago.
Is there anything else that I need to know before making a bid?
The car had a two year restoration and is in excellent condition. No issues that I know of. The car runs beautifully.
Hi Barry, your car looks well in the photos, I am looking for a car that will see my driving days out, I hope you don’t mind a couple of questions, are there any issues with the restoration any fillers or paint issues. The engine was rebuilt but you had to renew valve seals, is there anything else missed in the rebuild.
Hi, the car was totally stripped down to bare shell and repainted to original colour Ermine White. The underside of the car has been fully painted also. No fillers and paint work as good as new. Engine fully rebuilt and rebored to +20 thou oversize. New pistons, crank grind and rebuilt cylinder head. New clutch, new high flow radiator.
