Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

An as-new AK 427 combining iconic 1960s-inspired styling with a potent LS3 V8, modern chassis engineering, and exhilarating open-top performance.

The AC Cobra is one of the most recognisable and celebrated sports cars in motoring history. Created from the unlikely combination of a lightweight British sports car chassis and a powerful American V8, the Cobra quickly established a reputation for extraordinary performance and an uncompromising driving experience.

Originally developed through the collaboration between Carroll Shelby and AC Cars in the early 1960s, the Cobra combined AC’s elegant roadster design with Ford V8 power. The resulting car was remarkably light and immensely powerful, becoming a legend both on the road and circuit. Its dramatic proportions, exposed wheels, muscular bodywork, and thunderous V8 soundtrack have since become synonymous with high-performance classic motoring.

The AK 427 follows this famous recipe, recreating the essential character and appearance of the original while incorporating modern construction, suspension, braking, and drivetrain technology. This example takes the formula further with a 6.3-litre Chevrolet LS3 V8 producing 495bhp, a Tremec TKX five-speed manual gearbox, Jaguar limited-slip differential, Nitron adjustable coilovers, and hydraulic power steering.

Professionally built by AK Sportscars build agent Absolute Horsepower and correctly SVA/IVA registered on 1 March 2026, this example has covered just ~794 miles from new. Finished in Bentley Dark Sapphire Blue metallic with Wimbledon White stripes and a black leather interior, it presents a particularly compelling opportunity to acquire a professionally built Gen 2 Cobra.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Simon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A professionally commissioned build, carefully specified with potent V8 performance and a host of considered upgrades throughout.

Simon commissioned this AK 427 as a modern interpretation of the classic Cobra, having the car professionally built by AK Sportscars build agent Absolute Horsepower. Correctly SVA/IVA registered in March 2026, the car has covered just ~794 miles from new.

Simon has carefully specified the build, opting for the 6.3-litre Chevrolet LS3 V8 in 495bhp specification, paired with a Tremec TKX five-speed manual gearbox and Jaguar limited-slip differential. The car also benefits from Nitron adjustable coilover suspension, hydraulic power steering, electric handbrake, and black leather interior with silver stitching.

With the build now complete and the car having covered just ~794 miles, Simon has decided to part with the Cobra to put the funds towards his next performance car, a Lamborghini Gallardo V10 manual.

Simon will be on hand in the comments below to answer any questions you may have about the car.

Exterior

Iconic proportions finished in sophisticated dark blue, complemented by Wimbledon White stripes and an array of beautifully detailed period-inspired touches.

Wheels and Tyres

This example is fitted with 17” American Racing Hallibrand alloy wheels with grey inserts.

The wheels are fitted with Continental Contisport contact tyres, 225/50 R17 front and 255/45 R17 rear, dated 2025 they appear to be in great visual condition, with a good amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking on the outside walls.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork presents in great overall condition, as you would expect from a newly built project car, with the panel gaps aligning visually well around the car. We did notice a very small dent/crease to the nearside rear wheel arch, although this is very minor and can only really be noticed on close inspection.

We've provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in a lovely Bentley dark sapphire blue metallic with Wimbledon white stripes, the paintwork presents in great condition with even colour and coverage across all panels. We did notice a very small area of touch up paint on the front offside arch.

Simon has had the car professionally ceramic coated, providing an additional layer of protection to the paintwork and helping to maintain its finish.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the paintwork for yourselves.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass is in great condition in line with the recent build of this AK - during our visit we didn’t notice any obvious cracks or discolouration.

The window seals appear great and consistent with the overall condition of the car.

The door handles and window surrounds also present very well.

image

Interior

A impressive cockpit combining sumptuous black leather, intricate diamond stitching, polished aluminium detailing, and classic sports car character.

Seats and Carpets

The car was recently fitted with full black leather interior with silver stitching, diamond stitched leather rounded transmission tunnel top and rear bulkhead with a black luxury carpet set throughout.

The door cards present in a similar manner, showing consistent condition throughout the interior.

For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look at the extensive media.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard in this AK 427 presents in great condition shows no major damage or scuffs during our visit.

The odometer displayed ~794 miles at the time of consignment.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The black MOMO leather steering wheel presents in great condition.

The silver gear selector also looked in good shape too, both consistent with the recent build of the car.

For a closer look, check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

A potent 6.3-litre LS3 V8, modern Gen 2 chassis, adjustable Nitron suspension, and limited-slip differential combine to deliver a truly exhilarating driving experience.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by a Chevrolet 6.3-litre LS3 V8 producing 495bhp, paired with a Tremec TKX five-speed manual gearbox and Jaguar limited-slip differential for a potent and engaging driving experience.

On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold, and it performed well on the road - the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran well.

Simon reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth manual gearbox sending the power to the wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the AK 427.

image

Suspension and Brakes

A modern Gen 2 chassis equipped with tubular wishbones, adjustable Nitron coilover suspension, Jaguar disc brakes, and hydraulic power steering provides the car with responsive handling and confident performance.

On the drive out, Simon took us around some local roads. We heard no obvious knocks, bangs, or squeaks from the suspension, and overall, the car performed as expected with no observed issues.

We cover the underside of the AK 427 exterior in our "Mechanical" gallery section. Head over to our video section, where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view for yourself.

image

The Drive

A wonderfully visceral driving experience, combining a lightweight chassis with ~495bhp of LS3 V8 power, a five-speed manual gearbox, and the unmistakable soundtrack of side-exit exhausts.

Please have a look at the 'On The Road' video where Simon took us for a short drive.

image

Electrics and Other

Thoughtfully equipped for enjoyable road use, combining classic character with modern conveniences including hydraulic power steering, electric handbrake, heater, push-button start, immobiliser, and heated windscreen.

Simon reports that everything is functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Absolutely awesome quality build that should command a good price. However….a message to auction house….that’s probably the worst drive video you’ve ever done !!!…. I wanted to feel the acceleration and hear the raw…both sadly lacking. Just views of the sky. Please redo and include drive by if you really want to get best price……it’s all about emotion with cobras. Again awesome vehicle…..would love to own it. GLWTA. Ian

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
