Introduction

A proper touring car for the road, the Vectra ST3000 offers has all the styling, power, and noise you could want.

The late 1990s were a golden era for touring car racing, and few cars captured the imagination of enthusiasts like the Vauxhall Vectra SuperTouring. While the road-going Vectra may have been a familiar sight on Britain’s roads, the range-topping ST3000 offered a tantalising taste of the performance and attitude that made its racing counterpart so successful.

With its muscular 3.0-litre V6, purposeful styling, and sporting credentials, the ST3000 sits firmly in that sweet spot between everyday practicality and old-school performance. It is a car from an era when a fast saloon could still feel relatively understated, yet deliver plenty of character behind the wheel.

Today, these cars are becoming increasingly rare, making this 1999 Vectra ST3000 an intriguing reminder of Vauxhall’s performance ambitions at the turn of the millennium - and a fascinating piece of British motoring history.

Coming from over twenty one and a half years with our vendor, this ST3000 is one of three built with the Cadillac Catera 3.0-litre engine. The work was carried out by Motor Sport Developments (MSD) in Milton Keynes in June 1999, which designates this Vectra as a ST3000. It was originally supplied by Thurlby Motors.

When the car was sent to MSD, numerous modifications were made:

The new Cadilac Catera engine was stripped down and fitted with a Vectra sump, the flywheel was lightened by 9.7kgs The cylinder heads were gas flowed and valve throats reprofiled.
The exhaust ports were enlarged and the exhaust manifold was changed for a larger gas flowed one.
High lift cams were also fitted.
The ECU was remapped to produce 266b.h.p.
A BTB exhaust was fitted.
A limited slip diff was fitted.
AP racing 330mm front discs were fitted.
Recaro airpump seats fitted.
Suspension lowered and updated.
Body kit fitted.

The whole conversation to an ST3000 took around 200 hours.

The car was last serviced in June 2026 and has a current MOT, valid until 09.06.2027.

This listing was written from information supplied by Colin after meeting Rod the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

As demonstrated by his having owned the car for nearly 22 years, this ST3000 clearly holds a special place in Rod’s heart.

Rod has loved owning this Vectra ST3000. Given how ready it is to 'make progress on the road', it feels like a proper touring car, with its purposeful stance and styling, along with its distinctive exhaust note, finishing the job nicely.

Rod has decided to sell the car through auction with us as he is looking to reduce his collection ahead of a potential house move.

Rod would be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

With a bodykit reminiscent of John Cleland's touring car of the '90s, the Vectra ST3000 really does have road presence.

Wheels and Tyres

The Vectra sits on a set of star-spoke Vauxhall wheels, which were showing their age in places, with corrosion spotted on the faces and between the spokes. The centre caps also showed some signs of age, and the wheels would definitely benefit from a refurbishment.

A mixture of tyres was fitted to the car, with Goodyear tyres at the front dating from 2003 and Yokohama tyres at the rear, also dating from 2003. We would recommend having these replaced.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The bodywork around the Vectra looked to be in decent condition for the age of the car. We did notice some areas of corrosion coming through the paint - mainly on the bonnet, roof, and around some of the wheel arches. We also noted a couple of dents: one at the top of the passenger side of the bonnet and another on the passenger-side rear door. There was also a crack in the front bumper at the bottom of the driver's side.

The doors, bonnet, and boot all opened and closed with ease, while the struts held the bonnet up without issue.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The black paint looked to be in decent condition, with a good lustre. We did notice some crazing on the rear bumper, along with some stone chips to the front.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass around the Vectra looked to be in good condition, with a tinted sunstrip on the front windscreen. We did notice a small chip in the windscreen, low down on the driver's side.

The badges all appeared to be present and correct, and looked in good shape.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

image

Interior

Form-hugging Recaro seats and large dials give the Vectra a racy feel inside, while the SuperTouring plaque serves as a reminder of just how special this car is.

Seats and Carpets

The grey cloth, camo-pattern Recaro seats look to have held their shape well over the years. We did notice some creasing on the driver's side bolster, along with some bobbling on the front part of the seat, which is in keeping with the age and mileage of the car.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard looked to be in great condition, with the controls angled towards the driver. We didn't notice any cracks or other damage to the dashboard, and all the dials were clear and easy to read. The odometer read approximately 52,293 miles at the time of our visit.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with what appears to be the original Vauxhall steering wheel, which looked to be in good condition, with only some signs of age.

The gearstick also looked to be in decent condition, with the numbering still legible. The gaiter did, however, show some age-related tears.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to check the condition of the steering wheel and gear stick for yourself.

image

Mechanics

Fitted with a 3.0-litre V6 paired to a stainless-steel exhaust, the ST3000 produces a lovely, deep growl.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.0-litre V6 started first time with no issues, ticking over nicely. It performed well on the road too, and we didn't notice any unwanted noises coming from the engine. The Vectra is fitted with a BTB stainless steel exhaust.

The 5-speed manual gearbox also performed well on the road, selecting gears with ease, and there was no crunching from the gearbox noticed either.

Please take a look at the cold start video below to see for yourself the performance of the engine and gearbox.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension was impressive. We took it along some cobbled roads before starting the video, and it absorbed all the bumps in its stride, with no unwanted noises noted. It was also compliant when we got it onto the dual carriageway.

The brakes brought the Vectra to a stop in a straight line, with no issues noted.

Please take a look at the on the road video below to see how the suspension and brakes performed.

image

The Drive

As mentioned above, the 3.0-litre V6 felt like it had plenty of power under the driver's right foot. Rod's son took us out as Rod had recently injured his finger. On the various roads we took the car along it performed well, from the cobbles to the dual carriageways, and we didn't notice any unwanted noises from the drivetrain or chassis.

To see the ST3000 in motion please take a look at the on the road video below.

image

Electrics and Other

We didn't test all the electrics during our visit, but the radio, windows, clocks, etc. all worked. Rod told us the airbag warning lights comes on but he has a new squab to fit and rectify the problem, the central locking doesn't work either, he has a replacement door catch ready to fit, which should hopefully resolve the issue and the air-con comes on as it should but needs re-gassed, everything else was functioning as expected.

History and Paperwork

Coming with a confirmation letter from the director of Thurlby Motors stating that this Vectra is one of just three ST3000 models fitted with the Cadillac Catera 3.0-litre engine, this is a very special car.

The car comes with a printout of work carried out by Thurlby Motors between 2001 and 2004, as well as some invoices and MOT certificates dating back to 2005.

A new timing belt, water pump, idler bearings, auxiliary belt, crankshaft pulley oil seal, spark plugs and fuel filter were all renewed last month by a local independent Vauxhall garage.

The underside was deep cleaned and undersealed at a local bodyshop last month.

A new Quaife limited slip diff and reconditioned gearbox was fitted by the legendary motorsport mechanic Dougie Keenan 3,000 miles ago.

With the car being one of just three built to this specification, opportunities to own one don't come along often, so it's certainly worth taking a closer look at this special Vectra. Rod also has copies of the Autocar and EVO magazine articles from when the SuperTouring was first launched.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
